FYI, I will run a wheelbarrow tire until the first flat! And then it’s garbage! I go to my collection of used 4:80 trailer tires. Install one of those, running 50 psi. And never look back! The thickness of the trailer tires makes them “almost” flat free, tire slime would cover the times it’s not. And the extra air pressure keeps the tire from losing the bead seat, not to mention round. Like you have never rolled a more effortless wheelbarrow. Even with 6cf of concrete, effortless! On a side note: a short piece of flat bar or angle iron in front of the tire scrapes it clean from everything, mud, concrete or anything that might have stuck to the tire. Hope this helps someone as much as it’s helped me! 👍👍

It's been about 4 or 5 years now since I used Slime on my wheelbarrow and it's still holding well. This is the first year that I have to add a bit of air to both tires. That's pretty freakin' good compared to losing the air every 4 or 5 days. Thanks again.

This does actually work this guy is right put it in my riding mower tires and never had a flat sense
@charleshealy3413 жыл бұрын
Here is my method. I got this tip from another KZbin video. Simply drill two holes, about an eighth of an inch or slightly larger, at noon and 6 p.m. on one side of the tire. On the other side of the tire, drill two holes at 3 and 6. Now you have four holes in the tire, that are spaced 90° each. Now you take a can of expanding foam, also known as great stuff, and you use the long skinny tube, and squirt great stuff into each of the four holes. Don't overdo it, because the stuff is incredibly expanding, and you can actually put too much in it. When you've got the right amount, the tire will be almost as hard as a rock, and it will never go flat.

Seating the bead my favorite solution is I rap a ratchet strap around the tire and I snug it up and tighten it down and it forces the walls out and makes it easier to get the tire to seat and I have done this on small car tires (AIR IT SLOWLY AS SOO. Got frustrated with my dually wheel barrows getting flats so I replaced one pair on one of the wheel barrows with airless foam core tires. What I immediately experienced, solid tires don't give. If you have a loaded wheel barrow the solid tire will not flex over a bump, like a slight raise on a concrete sidewalk, like 1 ", it stops like it was ran against a wall. The dual wheel wheel barrow has a 750# capacity, with I think 10 or maybe 12 cubic ft of volume. Tire flex is important for smooth operation. These solid tires are like the old steel wheels, primitive results, no flats however.
@sixtyfiveford9 жыл бұрын

I bought a tire and innertube. The tube burst right away. I made a steel wheel of a cultivator tine. Drew a circle on plywood the same diameter as the rubber tire, cut it out as a male tire jig. Tried cutting 9/10 way thru to bend the 1/4" × 2" wide steel, so then bend, then weld it, but the spring steel always broke. So instead cut about 16 lengths, set them around the ply, welded them together. Centered the steel ring tire around the stock wheel, tacked in steel tube spokes, 4 at first. 4 more later. Welded. On the outer steel tire, the weld beads provide the tread and it works great. No flats, because of the steel flats.

I am a 61 year old Brit: I come from a building family. Up until at least the mid 1970s, barrow tyres were made same as car tyres; The tread was over 1/4 inche of solid, deep treaded, very hard rubber. The walls were thick, stiff and well reinforced. Like so much else these days (excepting of course vehicles, IT of every description, high quality white goods etc) modern utility tyres are shyte beyond comprehension: they are beyond a joke, beyond insult. A wheel barrow by design, is an outdoor,. tool, designed rough tasks in a rough environment. Anyone purchassing such a tool should be able to push it over the occasional minor prick hazzard and without concern or fear of a puncture. As a boy, and teenager, I pushed wheel barrows over building sites over every possible prick hazzard that would shread one of these modern rubber gloves. The wheels often outlasted the barrows, which lasted YEARS of continuous daily assult, literally !! I managed to pick one up about 8 years ago, paid five pounds for it; it was the deal of the decade, I was delighted :) It looked about thirty odd years old, no paint left, a good array of dents of various sizes, but had been kept under cover for much of its working life to date. I saw another thirty years in it no worries, and that I would go through many modern biscuit tins on rubber glove tyres in place of this masterpiece of design, workmanship and construction. How many ill-opportune punctures will I avoid over the decades heneforth ?? I could not believe that the guy accepted my offer: he thought I was crazy to give a fiver for it !! I appreciate it every day that I walk past it. They sell us shyte because we settle for shyte. Is it, or should it be a crime, to manufacture something of such poor quality and unfitness for purpose, of limited useful life expectancy, which consumes perhaps 70% to many hundreds of % of the total resource requirement/burden of a quality alternative ?? Maybe the modern ethos is economically sustainable, in an infinite world; only unless you know something that I do not, I am going to err on the side of a finite world, which by definition, renders rubber gloved biscuite tins NOT susstainable.

You are "the" man. Didn't know about diluting slime w/washer fluid. Great information, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. (How did you figure out the washer fluid mix?)

Being cheap and trying to stretch it, made me experiment with washer fluid.

Try chunks of foam placed in the tire and back filled with expanding foam next time. Great video man!

Custom Southern Arms were you just thinking out loud, or have you actually done this. I have thought about filling a tubeless with expanding foam, and I may try it very soon. I have a flat on my wheelbarrow that i have been putting off fixing till I actually need it......
@Customsouthernarms9 жыл бұрын
Dennis Arterburn actually done it. You need to put chunks of Styrofoam in the tire first to take up the bulk of the space. If you try to do it with just cans, it's a nightmare.

I put a dash of fine pepper in any tire. You gotta try something.

thank you! is it recommended to put this stuff in motorcycle inner tubes? i mean will it affect your ride on high speed tyres? thanks again. you have ingenious solutions to problems that all of us afflict

I've never used it anything that didn't go offroad.

Also, you may have out of balance issues at high speed. I wouldn't do it if it were me.

mud flap is nice, but better would be to find a flatbed truck driver (like me) and ask if they could give you some leftover "rubber belting" that stuff is crazy tough.

Slime does not keep a tire inflated when goathead thorns are everywhere. We have to do flat free tires.

I have a wagon that uses HF (harbor freight) tires, which loose all the air in... a week or so. I was considering replacing them with solid HF tires. Dumb question: why not substitute a solid tire for the pneumatic tire?

A 5" aircraft tire on a 3 piece Martin wheel assembly will outlast any modern air tire on a wheelbarrow. Municipal airports typically give these away when they wear down. Be sure not to get any with bald spots caused by a rough landing on the flight line.

Great tip.

@@sixtyfiveford this is the type of wheel I referenced. The hub is separate. These are made by Martin wheel. Go kart rims are more expensive than these. www.ebay.com/itm/192996085379

@@sixtyfiveford these are also available in 6", but the tires are almost too wide. These is the size tires I recommend. www.ebay.com/itm/173023908296
