I had to patch a tube one time and, without a tire tool like yours or any of the tools made for that, it was a HUGE PITA!!! Both getting the tube out and back in, but I got it done. I bought 4 new tires for that rider to install when I get the rest of it repaired and the store I bought them from will mount them for me. I don't need to do that kind of work often, but a tire tool like yours from Harbor Freight will be what I get to do it in the future. And your way of inserting the tube is much better than the way I did it, so THANKS for that! All kinds of time savers here! I couldn't get the wheel dust caps back on, so I'll watch your "Lawn Tractor Wheel Dust Caps - Best Removal Method!" for that, too. I didn't think about heating them. For the time being, I covered where the caps go with black plastic folded over twice for 4 layers and strapped them closed to secure them. And I've been using anti-seize on everything now. I lube all zerk fittings, too. I've learned so much from you. THANK YOU, Don, for all you do for us! You're the man!

also not a bad idea to inspect inner part of rim , especially if you're installing a tube for the 1st time on this rim . sometimes they have sharp welding splatter or even small pieces of welding wire protruding . i break mine down with a harbor freight changer for car tires , then use a large piece of all thread which i bolt thru a hole in my work bench (nut on both top and bottom , then another nut/washer to hold rim down) when i need it . if i changed many though , i'd buy a changer like donnyboy has .

Hello DonyBoy. Thank you for this excellent "How-To" video on how to fix a flat. I am considering your method of inserting an inner tube into my tubeless tractor tire, however, it appears all of the inner tubes have stems that are dead center on the tube. Whereas the valve hole on the hub is at a 45 degree angle, simiilar to your hub. Hence I am wondering if I sould be looking for a particular stem type, like "TR 13" or "TR 15"? Or should I not worry about the stem and simply position the innertube slighty so that the stem is at a 45 degree angle once inflated within the tire. (assuming there on't be too much stress for it to coil back to center)

Great device and process Dony. I mount mine on a 5/8 eyebolt anchored in my 5" vise. Once I had a badly corroded rim that would not seal. Tubes are crazy money! I had recently sealed my driveway and had some sealer that I used liberally (Not Lieberal) around the tire and rim sealing area. When the tire 'popped' into place it gave me a permanent tideline of sealer on 3 walls and tool board! And me. Lesson learned!

I've had the changer for years. A pair of small needle nose Vise Grips are also very helpful when trying to put the tire back on in addition to using them to hold the stem earlier. You can clamp them on the rim to hold the tire in place as you work your way around with the tool. Some of my larger tires run at 4-6 psi and with those you need to push the stem sideways with your finger before putting a hose on them to keep from pushing the stem inside as you inflate. Now, show me doing this with a 4" rim (old Snapper fronts). I've concluded that it's less trouble to just replace the wheel tire assembly than to try to deal with a 4".

I used to do this with my old Pontiac Ventura. The rims were too rusted to hold the bead so I’d slip a tube into the tire. I’d break the bead loose by jacking up my truck and setting it down on the tire to push the bead off. I reinflated the tire with a cheap foot pump. It worked, saved me a little money at the time.

Well done Donyboy but at Eliminator Performance the best way we found to fix flat tires is take them to our local tire dealer Murdoch's Tire in Port Colborne simply because they charge us less for a tube than we can purchase them and they charge $10 labour to install the tube (all plus the 13% HST of course). We actually have the same mini tire changer from Princess Auto which we will likely sell to a flipper at some point. The aggravation involved especially on the smaller front tires really is not worth the effort and we found that while they are fixing our flat tires we can actually be doing repairs and making more money from the time not wasted on this operation. Another bonus is if they ruin a tube during the install it is on them and not us or our customer. As a service to our customers we do not inflate the cost on the customer invoice. Do love that tool you use for holding the valve stem though!

I've been working on cars since tires with tube were still common, foreign cars with wire wheels mostly. The rule was and still is never put an oversized tube in a tire, it would fold over on itself, overheat and then you would have a high speed blowout. Underside was OK, if it was not too small, it woud expand to fill the tire they are made to expand. At the speeds lawn mowers/tractors travel I don't see a danger either way. BTW, if you didn't lube that tire that last 1/4 turn could have destroyed the bead on that old dry tire. Kudos for a youtuber who doesn't mind getting his hands dirty.

Good work. However I do something differently, before inflating I remove the valve in the tube and just inflate. This is because with the valve on the flow of air inside is slow and so the tube can some time donot take up the correct shape inside the tire. With the valve off air can fill up fast and the tube inflated evenly. This is especially important if you are using a Tube size one or two more than the Tire as shown in the video and this can cause some folds which will give a bumpy ride or premature failure. Once the tire pops and sticks to both rims we can install the tube wall and inflate to the correct pressure. Also keep the tire on the Jig with the clamping bolt on till you finish the inflation, specially when you are working with the old tire showing some cracks. Also it would be advisable to use safety goggles. Thanks.
