I wasn't sure about this new VLOG style when you started it, but I'm really enjoying it. Keep up the good work. The dead cat really worked to get rid of the wind. Can't wait to see your next project. My parent's had the trenching issue. The only fix they found was actual gutters. Hope the rock works well for you.

My first job as a kid was working for a landscaping company and this is how we always fixed homes with water issues. The trick seems to be using plastic instead of that fabric stuff.

That's coming along a treat mate. And low maintenance once it's sorted. Regarding your guttering blocking up and overflowing, we have some products here, one is called gutter whisker (like a giant pipe cleaner), and another called gutter guard mesh that you can put either in or over your guttering, and it limits the amount of tree detritus (and animals, as that would be more of an issue in the US) getting in the downpipe, without limiting the water getting into the guttering. Keep up the great work!!

Looks good! I’d recommend pricing out the gutters rather than doing it yourself. It’s probably cheaper than you think and they can put up one section across the whole length.

I've got a resource or two that I can call on, so it wouldn't completely be doing it myself.

Check out some of 'Gate City Foundation Drainage' videos. He has some great videos showing the basics of foundation drainage. I have had a lot of drainage issues, living in northeast NC - basically swamp land. I see a few issues with your work: You want to use a heavy clay soil along the house to prevent the water from passing through it. High organics soil, sand, or gravel will allow the water to pass right through - as if there is no soil there. The other issue I see is your edging is going to act like a wall for the water, creating a moat around the house.

The plastic under the rock does the trick buy not letting any water touch the dirt until its already 4-6 feet away from the foundation, depending on the contour of the edging. That much of a perimeter typically is all it takes to keep water out of the basement. And as for the edging blocking water, once the plastic is pushed down at the edging, it just gives the water a point to be directed downward into the ground. We have had way more water this spring after the landscaping than we did before it. The basement has stayed completely dry, and I have never seen the water back up and have to spill over the edging. Once the water hits the rocks it all but disappears. I know there are other ways to absolutely block the water, but as you mentioned, they involve several loads of other materials, as well as more heavy equipment that I don't have access to. So for $700, this is the perfect solution for a 70-year old house.

Made a moat next to the house It’s your thing you do you. I do enjoy the vlogs.

You might need to think about putting guttering up on that end of the house as over time, the soil under the rocks will just go back to how it was previously. It may take 4 or 5 years, but nevertheless, it will subside again. It's bad enough having your basement flooding but if you end up with mold inside the walls that's a different ballgame 😢. Placing bushes will help with lots of the ground moisture problems. As always buddy 💯% 👍 🇬🇧. P.s. here in the UK we can purchase rocks ,sand etc in one tonne sacks and honestly the amount of rocks you showed us in this video actually looks more like you only have between three and four tonnes of rocks delivered unless your rocks are super super heavyweight rocks. I'm just going by what you showed us in the delivered rock pile 🤔🫣

Have you ever thought of doing a French Drain (Ι think that’s what is called) a buried perforated PVC drain pipe to drain the water away from the house.
