Hey man thanks for the shout out. Just got the Beetle Sucker 5000!! Looking forward to putting it to use! It’s charged and ready to go. Thanks so much!!

You may have to widen the hole on the end depending on the size of your beetles :-). I hope this reduces the beetle pressure in your hives so the girls can focus on the queen and the brood. I know it seems gimmicky but it will completely clean a hive in just a few minutes. I hope it works well for you and I'll check your channel for updates :-). Take care.

Thank you for sharing this, I bought the vac. I clamped the hacksaw frame in a vise and I cut the chute off the wide attachment then using a heat gun i warmed up the small blowing attachment, when the plastic got soft I squeezed the round end into an oval to fit over the cut end of the chute, a bit of electrical tape and was done. I tried it out today and it worked great, was able to such up way more beetles than I could have smashed.

That sure was nice of you to help Bruce out! I may have to get one of these considering I had an issue during spring and summer. Fortunately, although I’m only a couple miles away from Bruce’s problem yard, I haven’t had the beetle problem in the winter. I sure hope he gets the beetle population down before spring.
@BugFarmerBees11 ай бұрын
I had help. I have been in a beetle battle myself for several years and when I saw his winter infestation video I had to get a BS-5K off to him as quickly as possible. Luckily, it was on my video build list and I was planning to build one anyway. I know it will make his bees happy :-)

Thanks for explaining how you built the BS5000! Something that makes me curious is that I still see a lot of Guardian Hive Entrances in your apiary. In the past, you seemed to view them negatively. Do you continue to use them?
@BugFarmerBees Жыл бұрын
I use them because the act as the bottom boards for my bee barns and I am too lazy to build and attach new mini landing boards. I also use the reducers I made to close off the entrance when needed. As for an anti-beetle measure, the guardians do not work in my opinion.

The piece you tapped to the front of the vacuum is plastic.. instead of taping it you can heat that circle end till it's plyable and mold it into the opening so that it fits snug air tight and it remolds it to that square oval shape
@BugFarmerBees Жыл бұрын
That is an idea.
@2boysmom93810 ай бұрын
Thank you for this. I ordered a vacuum with your link. I didn’t cut my vacuum. Instead I cut the top off a water bottle and used duct tape to seal it onto my vacuum. I put pieces inside the opening of the bottle connecting to the inside of the oval shape on the vacuum, building a sort of tube out of duct tape to direct beetles straight into the vacuum chamber. The opening of the water bottle fits the narrow attachment close enough. More duct tape keeps it in place. This only took scissors and about 5 minutes to accomplish. It works great!!! It was such a satisfying feeling after opening a hive with about a hundred beetles on the lid, to be able to quickly capture them. A few bees went in too, but I was able to release them unharmed. Then I put the removable vacuum chamber into the freezer to easily kill all the beetles.
@BugFarmerBees10 ай бұрын
Awesome. I never thought about freezing the beetles while in the chamber. I think I will do that from now on. Heck with drowning them, I'll just freeze them :-). Thanks for the tip.

I suspect anything that will create a seal will work. The only thing you don't want to happen is have the vacuum canister break open when you have 1000 beetles inside :-).

Added you to my channels featured channels and specifically added this video to my Tips, Tricks and Hacks playlist! Why aren’t you using peppermint candy to control the beetles.?
@BugFarmerBees Жыл бұрын
I will use peppermint oil in the spring. I just don't want to put peppermint flavored candy in the hives because I don't want the bees eating it. I fear it will foul the honey. They can't eat peppermint oil on a cotton ball and I should get the same results.
