I think it's worth pointing out that the game is truly in early access - major systems are changed, removed, and added. Shiny Shoe has done a very good job in responding to their community, in my opinion of course.

I have been having a lot of fun with the new changes. I was initially worried about the fountain removal but I like the vestige sets more than I thought I would. While I don't generally mind cosmetic monetization, it always feels better when it is gone. There is always the worry in the back of my mind that monetization decisions will affect the game.

The new changes seem great, I look forward to unlocking the new classes too. Vestige sets with the ability to destroy vestiges but keep the set is a really interesting implementation. Also seeing the first book before choosing a trinket is great, swapping to Marker of the Unbound to get a ton of damage out of the ink pool on death modifier seems like it will be a fun thing to do from time to time.

I do really miss run quests, but I do like that I can freely choose what boss to go after now. I hope they give run quests back but don't tie them to choosing the boss.

The run quests were bad. As they explained either the quest was TOO hard or TOO easy. Also the Rewards they choose was either too OP or if they nerf the reward it be not worth anything. Bottom line run quest just seemed unnecessary and also went against what a rouguelike game should be (Freedom of choice). A run quest saying get burn forced you to go that way theoretically which was counter productive to giving freedom of choice. Due to all these reasons I doubt it will come back (nor should it)

You have to think of set collecting as run quests 2.0! They're much more engaging and have a more direct impact on the type of run you're having.

As someone who has been interested in the game since it was announced, I did not purchase the game until the monitization was removed. (I still have not found time to play it 😢) but battle pass fatique is real even without FOMO. As I get older and have less time to game I just don't want to ever look at a battlepass again. Not quite the same situation, but the shift from Monster Train to a new game with monetization was off putting for me. It made me think of Uber Entertainment with Monday Night Combat 13 years ago when they dropped support for the game and made the awful free to play game Super Monday Night Combat.

I don't have the game. I get that they removed the monetization, but did they manage to get rid of all the gamedesign decisions they made in favor of mtx and retention (most obvious example would be the mandatory lobby which exists as peer pressure to get cosmetics)? Could that be even possible, or is the MTX gamedesign so deeply ingrained in the game that they can't get rid off it? (I would assume that's the case with most mtx games, but Inkbound seemed to had less intentions behind their mtx, so maybe it could be possible for them?)

They converted all of the in0-game MTX cosmetics into in-game rewards and the previous battlepass contents into DLC bundles if anyone wants them. It was never terribly MTX-laden otherwise, and was never pay-to-win, so they otherwise didn't have to change too much.

It's not that I'm not interested in Inkbound, I just have not been in a position to get it yet

I think they shouldn't have spent the time and energy working out how to maximise profit in a new IP and built a series of new fights, floors, cards and train designs in monstertrain. The architecture is there and would have taken very little to do that... Its quite obvious the cancer that is Battlepass is now something which every single game dev higher up thinks a game needs to be good. I've got 500 hours into monstertrain and I still play most days just for... Now get this... FUN!.. Why they couldn't knock something up in MT quickly and easily is beyond me... The time and resource spent working out how much currency and other dust bullshit to make it inevitable you need to buy more currency is now TOTALLY wasted and they have lost the good will of fans of the studio for their production of much less greedy games.
