I do not use water jugs, we have great water out of the tap. However, I believe this algae forms as a result of exposure to light. If you have the dispenser by a window or indirect light from a window, perhaps consider moving it. Kinda like you never want to put a fish tank in front of a window- it won't take long for the stuff to grow. Anyway, that might help. Might not.
