In Soviet times, every family had flannelette blankets. These were one and a half beds and baby blankets, in which babies from the maternity hospital were wrapped, I don’t remember a double one. Soft and dense, it served for decades. The pattern was checkered in blue and pink. A little later the print changed, as did the quality.
Years later, this rarity remained with our parents. My mother-in-law even has new copies with a paper label.
Now no one needs these. The market is flooded with different types of modern blankets, many of which are excellent quality, lightweight and warm.
Despite its ancient appearance, this blanket can be used again, breathing new life into it. It's hard to part with such things.
For example, you can cover a blanket on both sides with a beautiful fabric and quilt it. You'll get a new blanket. A vest for home also has a place.
If you cut it into strips, you can make a cool warm rug. This is what I'll do.
The work will be completely manual, so it will take time to implement the idea.
I have two types of blankets, old light green, used, washed many times. And the blue one is completely new, which has been in the closet for more than 50 years.
1) Cut strips 1 cm wide.
2) Then I rolled the strips into circles of different sizes.
3) When I twisted the circle, I stitched it through with a needle and thread so that the spiral did not unwind, as a result it became a single whole.
4) Then I sewed one circle from strips of different colors.
The size of the rug depends on the number of circles; you can make a whole rug.
5) Then I sewed each circle together. In some places the circles were flattened into an oval. So that it fits into the resulting space.
6) From such strips you can twist not only circles, but also ovals, sew them with a zigzag, and then combine different shapes into one fabric.
7) This rug can go on and on, shaping not only the size, but also the shape.
But at any stage the rug looks finished.
All the best!
