Some tips from someone who has 400hrs in: Stay in your group, don’t wander off. Help your team via kits, pills, bandages or gene. You can hold out these items and use RMB to give to a teammate. Help them and they will help you. Go for the head, charge your attack then swing rather than spamming the normal swing. Always shove them back after you hit them in case they don’t die to avoid their counter-hit. Don’t horde items, pick up only what you need. You don’t have to kill every zombie you see. Just kill the ones blocking your path. Every zombie you attack is a risk of them biting/hitting you. You’re a survivor, not a zombie hunter.

The hoarding items thing only applies for weapons, but keeping a lot of tools on you in case your team needs to complete an objective or open a crate is very good and teaches new players what your items do

It depends on your monitor size. Everyone is different. If you have an old computer with those blocky monitor, pick the lower resolution; if not, pick a higher one, or check if you have the game on full-screen mode.
