99% or more of the videos on youtube are basically crap. There's tons of videos showing people blowing up old TV sets or other things. The copyright thing is getting way out of hand. They are so worried about some schmuck like me might make a few cents or something by using a particular song (not today's crap they actually call music", but older stuff. I've watched peoples videos where they play records all the way through and their still on youtube. We as a nation are getting too suspicious over everyone else, can't trust anyone anymore. Maybe the terrorists have won?

Hi Folks, I want to thank Shango066 for his awesome videos which were really unique and a pleasure to watch. Shango066's videos gave me so much knowledge about handling and repairing vintage electronics. I am more focused on vintage computers, but sometimes I also look into TVs and CRT monitors. Watching the videos helped me a lot to understand CRT technology much better. I feel sad and shocked about that all this is now lost. regards. Philipp

That was one of my favorite subscriptions. Shango ran a fascinating channel. I loved all the urban and mineshaft explores, the desert hikes, forgotten mining shacks and remote locations in the California outback as well as the vintage radio and TV tech videos. And let's not forget those undercover estate sales. I just found this out today. I think we've lost one of the greatest channels on KZbin.

I can't, for the life of me, figure out who wins from a situation like this. His subscribers lose. He loses. KZbin loses, too, whether they are aware of it, or, not. Maybe all they want, is the flavor of the month, brain dead, going to be gone in a minute pop culture junk they hype up. Instead of a video you could possibly learn from, be actually entertained by, or, be a medium for keeping the memory of a bygone time, a long gone artist, a pioneering technology, alive. I won't lie, if and when it happens to me and I suspect it will, I'll miss it and miss the interaction with the people I've come to know. But, hey, if the preferred content is, which celeb nominates who for the ice bucket challenge, or who is twerking, or, whatever the latest fleeting "thing" is, I'd rather be counted out anyway. Thanks for passing this along, Bryan.

I've watched a LOT of his videos and I've never seen anything that would violate copyrights or would be spam-like or scam-like. Yes, he voices his opinions from time to time -- but how the hell is that against the rules?! F****** ridiculous that KZbin would just trash all his hard work -- YEARS worth of work! Annoys me greatly -- and I can't even imagine how angry Shango066 must be! I hope me manages to get KZbin to realize they've made a mistake, and restore his channel...

This is not the first time I've heard of this exact situation happening. About 2-months ago it happened to a member of the Antique Radio Forum. He also had no idea why it happened and was afforded no appeal. The bottom line is it's just life in the KZbin fast lane. That being said...it's possible Shango recently deleted a Google+ account he no longer wanted. If so, that might be what caused his difficulty. Also if so, he could try this: Contact KZbin support. The reason I opened this account was to comment on shango's & rtpnut's videos. I used to perform component level electronic servicing years ago, and both your videos bring back old memories. I was going to eventually post some content, but I don't believe I'll bother now. I think what might have gotten shango the axe was comments about him monetizing his channel, saying he hated commercials, and some comments that sounded like ( i repeat again sounded like) he would be interested in people sending in items and paying to have video repairs made. ( Did I mention that I said it sounded like that's what he was suggesting.) I believe this is what brought the wrath of google. They want alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the money. Anyway shango, you love making the videos, don't stop. Googletube isn't the only game in town. Go to vimeo or some other foreign hosted video service. I'm sure rtpnut would be happy to post the link to you new place. Let us know. I'll be there!

Please let us know what the real reason for Shango066's channel deletion, if you ever find out. I certainly never saw any "commercial" or "spam" activity on his channel. I really did not find him that political either. Is this really over copyright? I guess when we play youtube's game, we play it to their rules, at our own risk. What a shame. Still, KZbin owes shango a better explanation for this action considering the amount of effort he has put into his channel. I found his videos entertaining, and really appreciated his ability to troubleshoot complicated things with simple methods. I learned a lot from him. The EOL videos meant nothing to me, but do not bother me either.

meh, this is bad news. I bet it was about copyright violations. I presume Google does tag every video automatically based on the scanned content and some sophisticated to wonky algorithms. If any employee was then about to evaluate a channel, all that shows up are videos tagged with content from TV and radio stations and some snippets of music. I would be surprised if during an evaluation somebody took even closer look at the content. What a bummer. really.

How can you get a copyright strike for playing music that is otherwise obtainable for free by listening to the radio? What else is he going to test it with? I thought that the problem with playing someone else's song and posting it online is piracy. Why isn't listening to the radio considered piracy? Either way, the listener obtains a song for free via advertisements, and honestly, "ThemTube" plays more ads than the radio stations. Anyway, as for shango066, i damn well hope he can at least get access to his own videos to upload them elsewhere, such as vimeo, possibly reupload to youtoob or atleast have them as an archive of his work. Its like recording a video and then having the camera corrupt the video (they always do), but instead of 5 minutes of lost video, it is more like 5 years worth of hard work down the crapper! Hang in there shango066, I am sure you can contact POOgle to at least get private access to your videos. Good luck buddy! I hope you can recover it all!

What a bummer, I don't understand why Shango066 account is disabled/deleted. He doesn't spam, and provides very informative and great video's with radio and TV repairs. These has to be a system fault somewhere. He has spend thousands of hours of work into making his channel interesting. Every new video was a TV show to look forward too. Shango066, give the lords of Poohgle the finger, go post your vids on Pop Modal or Daily Motion, or Vimeo, or Live Leak, or all. In fact everyone should do the same, Pop Modal is run by Conservative/Libertarian types who would enjoy Shango's point of view, YT has driven a lot of users over there, and Daily Motion is owned by a French company who doesn't care whether U.S entertainment cartels get their panties in a knob over inane cases of copyright violation, lots of ex YT users there too. Contrary to what many may think KZbin is not a monopoly, if they treat you like crap, make like a tree and leave, if more people did that the audience would leave too and so would the ad revenue. There are only so many people who could stand watching pewdiepie type videos for so long. This is why I don't post videos on Y.T, it's getting stupid just like Poohgle, who will eventually join dozens of other IT and tech companies in the dust bin.

This is indeed sad news on a number of levels. I've been a subscriber of Shango for a long time and have always enjoyed his videos. His recent ones involving 'early' semiconductors have been particularly interesting to me. In my view he always paid attention to the copyright thing so I can't believe that's the reason his channel was cancelled. The fact that no meaningful explanation was given and there is no appeal process is especially worrying and brings it home that we are all exposed to the same risk. Luckily I have copies of most of my clips and since I have a vimeo account I think I'll start uploading there as well just in case. Please pass my good wishes to Shango and I hope we can find a forum to share and learn without having this sword over our heads all the time. Cheers, John

@Lskaggs638 жыл бұрын
I agree, but who would have a problem with the vintage electronics field or for that matter the electronics field in general? I've done everything from consumer electronics (TV's stereo's VCR/DVD, etc..), computer repair, vintage repair and 24 years of Avionics repair for the Navy. Now all the sudden someone or some group has a problem with the electronics field? Makes no sense at all.
@Lskaggs638 жыл бұрын
Richard Cline Some people enjoy the challenge of repairing and restoring this so called GARBAGE and there is a market for vintage TV's and radios. I just got done restoring a 1951 Zenith Transoceanic Radio that someone bought off of ebay and I repaired and restored it for him. Amateur Ham enthusiasts (myself included) also love this stuff. If someone does not like it they can always leave the channel and go to something they are interested in. Merry Christmas.

That's a glitch he's back. I saw one of his video explaining that for the best quality he uploaded the raw camera files then used the KZbin video editor to combine multiple raw camera files to one video. But the raw camera videos was locked in private until it became disproportionately large compared to his public videos until KZbin's highly automated system detects it and misidentified as spam and automatically suspend his account. KZbin don't allow their system to be use as storage.

I have been watching your channel and Shango066 for 2-3 months and was not aware that Shango066 ever had his account disabled. Your videos on repairing old record players has made me want to make a video about my Sears belt-drive turntable that I got as a late Christmas present in January 1983. It still works and isn't the highest-end turntable but it has the adjustable counterweight and anti-skate control and the ability to put different kinds of cartridges on it (currently one that is tracking at 1.625 grams in the middle of its recommended range). You know what my main problem is? What the hell would I play on it to demonstrate it? Anything I choose might get me a copyright strike. It's a real problem for people who want to talk about audio or video equipment. I'm amazed that a low-fidelity version picked up by a microphone is enough to trigger it because you would think the loss in fidelity would keep it from happening. It shows that they have some pretty sophisticated algorithms in place to recognize songs (probably similar to what the SoundHound and Shazam phone apps have, making them able to recognize songs despite ambient noise and lower fidelity).

He is back on. They sent him another letter that says after further review they found no violations on his part so they restarted his account as of a week ago

Two hands and a radio stopped his page this week too. He says that the new rules for the next year is quite vague and he didn't want to risk it. He did reviews on inexpensive radios. It wouldn't surprise me if you tube shuts it's doors

Jeez, this is such a total bummer. The irony of this is that when Google first started up, it's motto was: "Don't be Evil". But now that they have gotten big and arrogant those days are over. There was nothing violating any TOSs on Shango066's channel, this is such BS.

Hey there. In spite of the account of shango066 being suspended, I'm still currently able to view some of his videos here on KZbin. Do shango066 or radiotvphononut have a Facebook account? If so, I'd like to find out what names they're using on Facebook. I'd like for myself to be able to become Facebook friends with each of those two. I like radiotvphononut & shango066. And I like all of their videos no matter what anyone else says. Thank you!

This fits the profile of sudden copyright strikes. Lots of controversy has came to the light in recent days from various youtubers who complain about how the fair use laws can be ignored by companies and how wicked youtube's copyright system is. Yes, you can suddenly get a strike on an old video. If you get one, you are set back to uploading 15 min. You can appeal the strike and the company has a month to respond, if else, the strike expires. If for whatever reason you happen to get three active strikes at once, you're out. Even if they were mistaken.

Did he try using "Daily Motion"? As far as I know they are not owned by Google.

Did he say "Junk"? Maybe they thought he was insulting a boat!! "I'd like to get you on a slow junk to China" - the new hit song!

I found Shangos channel before I found this one. Which, I enjoy with a few other channels, are my favorites. And let me tell you something. You, Shango, and a few others have Better entertainment than anything on free tv. Or even pay-tv.

Good riddance to him. He showed no respect for the gear he was working on. Powering up without checking it out first or replacing faulty capacitors. You want to see a true professional? Mr. Carlson's lab.

I have to preface this comment by saying that I don't often comment on videos, mostly because anything I have to say has already been said. I subscribe to over 83 channels and am contemplating starting my own videos, but this is a rough business! As far as the deletion of Shango066' s channel (and banishment) I have to say that even criminals, by law, have a chance to have the charges against them read and be able to face their accusers. We're not even furnished that right by You Tube apparently. With all the garbage and foul language that I hear on other people's videos and in comments, I can't understand why they have a zero-tolerance policy for copyright violations. It just doesn't make sense! Whatever happened to free speech? Or 3 strikes and you're out? Or maybe even a shame on you? Obviously some people get that. Maybe the one commentor is on the right track with Chinese hackers. Maybe Shango said something to raise the hackles on somebody and they hacked into his channel. I hope you keep us posted with what happens.
