Ellie: "I'm scared of ending up alone." Between the action scenes and the intense emotions this was another amazing episode. We fell in love with Henry and Sam and their relationship. Their tragic ending signed up another progression in Joel and Ellie's relationship. 19:55. Not even 2 weeks ago, Kathleen's Militia killed all of FEDRA in Kansas City for the freedom of the people. But, her quest for revenge against Henry for getting her brother killed resulted in her, Perry, & most of her militia getting killed by this Horde of Infected. So, now there is hardly anyone left to defend the city as the Horde makes its way towards it.

Totally agree with your comments Rob ...it's the relationship building that is soo good in this show. I am super-concerned about season 2 & 3 though. If you've played TLoU2, then you know what I mean. All the way through I was screaming no, no, you just wouldn't, no, no, this is ridiculous, no no no! I think unless I hear some really positive reviews, I might just leave it at season one and call it done.

@@jessetorres8738 ///But, her quest for revenge against Henry.../// The way this show/game depicts revenge is the one issue I have with it, it's almost childish. I understand her hate, but I cant imagine anyone being so obsessed with revenge that they would make such obviously stupid choices ...and I especially cant imagine others going along with it. I know Henry turned her brother in, but you can understand why. He wasn't evil. Would anyone really pursue Henry in that way? I mean I understand the hate Maggie must feel for Negan in TWD, but she would never throw her whole community under the bus just to get Negan. It's nonsensical. Perry should have shot Kathleen, taken over the group and dealt with the issue in the basement.

@@StaceyToth1212 That's one way of looking at it. Another is that you take a damaged orphan girl and a damaged father, and together they travel through hell to try and save humanity, while along the way, they heal each other. Isn't that beautiful?

Sam's innocent face and the noises he makes is so adorable. His death hit me harder than the video game. :( I thought they would switch things around and keep those two alive longer since they did the opposite with Bill and killed him off. It would have been interesting if Henry and Sam made it to part 2.

Such a great episode. Inside the episode for this one is real good as well. I have a new found love for Pedro from this episode and how intense he is while protecting Ellie with the rifle shots. I dont know what it was, but he showed fear, desperation, and intensity without saying a word.

Idk if anyones told y’all yet but they have a podcast for the show. It’s hosted by Troy Baker (voice of Joel) & has both Neil Druckman (director & writer of TLOU) & Craig Mazen (does pretty much everything on the show). They’re on KZbin pretty much right after each episode ends. They give A LOT of insight into each episode.

In TLOU podcast's first episode, Craig Mazin, Neil Druckmann & Troy Baker (Joel in the game) talked about this story base line being: unconditional love is a dangerous thing. Craig talks specifically about paternal love being primal and how it can lead to the most intence violence, and yes they were talking about Joel and Ellie here, but Henry IS a parallel and I love that. Him, another fatherly figure, non violent at all, having his first kill being his baby brother, out of panic, it's just heartbreaking. Just like Joel said on episode 4, you keep going for family only.

I liked how they included the section from the sewers with the drawings on the walls. That was part of the game. I bunch of people were hiding out in the sewers to survive. There were lots of children there, but then the infected got in and everyone died. There was some very good environmental story telling in that section. Lots of bodies with notes. Lots of infected as well in that section though, which they changed. They had a section where Ellie and Henry were cut off from Joel and Sam and so the adults had to protect the other's child. That was a fun section. Also, I am so glad the bloater made an appearance finally. It was supposed to be fought with Bill during his section of the game, but obviously, Joel and Ellie never met Bill in this version, but I though skipping a whole infected type would be strange.

They are doing such a great job of staying with the game yet expanding on it and making it even more powerful, when changes are made, they are just more impactful. Showing the human side of villains and more obscure characters. It's kind of foreshadowing what we know happens in part 2 of the game. Her talking about kids die then Henry did all this for nothing. It didn't hit me at the time until the end. They are putting so many little Easter eggs in. It will be next season I'm guessing but I can't wait for the group they run into in the winter. Trying not to say to much😂

Yeah you can tell who's lived in a QZ their entire life and whose had to be out in the wild struggling to survive. You have Joel knowing how to survive, what to do and is being cautious. Then you have those two saying "see it's all good" and talking at nighttime attracting attention.

Ellie and Joel switch sides at the end. That was the Tess moment from episode 2. Ellie runs ahead while Joel is still waiting at the grave. Tess gave Joel a mission he wanted to fulfill as her last wish. The relationship that Joel had with Tess was similar to Ellie and Sam. Ellie promised (unspoken with hope) Sam the cure here and couldn't keep this promise. She now wants to make sure that this never happens again. As Tess said at the time "save who you can save". Ellie really has a mission now. Indirectly get through her feelings of guilt. She wants her blood to work. Before that, she was someone who had no control over anything. Others have determined where she grows up and where she has to go now. "I didn't ask for this" were her words in episode 2. Now that has changed. Now conviction plays a role and she takes control. She wants to save the world so that there are no more Sam's. And while Joel gradually finds his humanity again and lets people into his life again, Ellie loses a little more of herself and she takes the lead here in the end. I think the series showed that more clearly in this way than the game did. In addition, Ellie and Joel have reached a new level of connection with each other. Wordless understanding. Both wanted to save the brothers during the attack. That wasn't Joel's "don't do it Ellie" look. That was the look "I'll give you fire protection Ellie". And Ellie has absolute confidence in Joel. There was also a little joke about the game. The moment when the sniper shot and Henry and Sam senselessly ran out of cover, only to return immediately. This is how Ellie behaved very often in the game. She ran out of cover, right in front of the enemy and then back again. An interesting feature of the show so far is that real brutality is only shown to us when Ellie sees it. We see Joel beating the soldier to death in episode 1 because Ellie is there and sees it. Ellie tortures and kills the stalker in episode 3. We see Joel's sniper kills because Ellie sees them. We see Henry's death, Sam being shot and Kathleen's death. With all other killings (Old Sniper, Bryan) you only hear it because the camera is focused on Ellie while she doesn't see these killings herself.

Joel didn't die once trying to get to the sniper, 0/10. Seriously though, another amazing story. I might be a little biased being born and raised in Kansas City (we rarely get to see our city represented in entertainment media). They're really hammering in the theme of revenge in this one. Kathleen is fine with killing Ellie and Sam because she thinks they'll be just as vengeful as she is regarding her brother's death, if she kills Henry and Joel. It's a theme I wasn't thinking we'd touch on till the second season (if you know, you know).
@bulat_shams

Joel probably didn't die, because snipers main objective was keep an eye on Henry and Sam and and keep them alive till Kathleen arrives. He probably thought, that it's more important than saving himself. Plus he's old, maybe he indeed was bad shooter

I wish we got more background on Kathleen because I really struggled to buy into her as a leader in this world. I'm OK with her being an unlikely leader, maybe even a reluctant one, but in any political/social movement there are always going to be various factions vying for control and people lining up to take leadership. As such, to buy into her as leader I think I really needed to see how she was elevated to or took leadership following her brother's death and how she maintained it. It would have been good to see how she brought about change (the overthrow of FEDRA) where her brother had failed.
