Weirdly enough, the "benefits of a classical education" line takes on new meaning when you know it's an incorrect quote. It goes from "I'm the smartest one in the room" to "Because I act sophisticated and claim credentials that may or may not be real, I can make shit up and no one can tell." In a way, it's an early hint into Hans Gruber's true character. He puts up a facade of sophistication and civility, but when it comes down to it, he will resort to cheap and brutal tactics to get his way. Or I'm reading too much into it, but idc.

Tbh the Alexander quote is pretty beautiful and poetic, basically absolutely roasting the insanity of wanting to conquer stuff and showing how insane it is, while also giving you a somewhat sympathetic glimpse into how Alexander's pathological condition just completely drove his life (granted, he's not the victim here lol, but still)
