Selim teaching his son how to play chess is so cute :) I don't get why people don't like him. He is a calm and sensitive soul and he wouldn't participate in the game of thrones if he didn't have to.

I agree with you. I actually like Selim. In that kind of environment, a son had to fight to live every day. Each son wanted to be the heir and wanted an advantage over the other. I think Selim actually had a good heart and didn't really like all the violence. I also think he knew his path to the throne wouldn't be easy and his only hope of staying alive was to be the heir. Always knowing you will die if one of your brothers takes the throne instead of you cannot be an easy way to live.

The Kosem series did a much better job of making this point clear. Every prince wanted the throne because the alternative was death. The Kosem series does a better job of portraying the fratricide law that was very much in place
