@@Yuseigo Very much so, as with anyone who decides to drive while impaired. Atrocity might better apply but I don't usually draw that out unless the killing is intentional. The age of the victim doesn't much matter, though the untimely and preventable death of children is definitely worse as they're more innocent. I certainly don't disagree with you though.

I know a man who also ended up killing someone drinking and driving. He was a very well performing soccer player before the accident, and was well off. He was sentenced to several years in prison. He is one of the kindest, most honest men I’ve ever met. He is now a minister (pastor) who uses his prison stories to further his preaching.

@coastiewoody
@coastiewoody 4 күн бұрын
Very rarely do we see drunk drivers taking full responsibility and dealing with the guilt, day in, and day out. I commend Matthew for his honesty, and I feel so terrible for Vincent and his family. I also feel bad for Matthew. A friend of mine was killed by a drunk driver in the middle of the day. The road they were on runs parallel to the freeway and has two lanes for each direction and a turn (suicide) lane. She was driving home from work, and she was passing another car (slowly as she wasn't speeding), as she was in the left lane. She had even looked over at the car and waved at the kid in the backseat. Then, a man who was drunk and barreling down this road going in the opposite direction drove straight into oncoming traffic, hitting Brittany head on. The car she was next to had that mom & child in it, and the mom said, "I will never forget the look of terror on her face. She knew what was coming and there was nowhere for her to go, and she gave this look that she refused to swerve into my lane. She went from smiling and waving to terror." That mom was also very thankful because she knew and felt that my friend was trying to make sure the car didn't hit that mom & child. The man driving that car never apologized. He never took responsibility, and he was a horrible person to the judge and jury. The kicker to this whole thing? 20 minutes before the crash, multiple 9-1-1 calls were coming in from multiple different people in a Fred Meyer parking lot (Fred Meyer is like Kroger for Washington & Oregon). They were saying the man was drunk, belligerent, and was a danger to everyone. These callers also blocked him in so he couldn't leave. He managed to bumper car his way out and then he caused that crash just minutes after he left. Had the dispatcher and police showed up (as they had multiple cars in the area of that Fred Meyer due to the crime in the surrounding neighborhood), my friend would still be here. That man is still in prison, but honestly? He deserves to be under it. Anyone who causes the accidental death of another and refuses to apologize does not deserve to walk free ever again.

The correct way to say it is “scot free", not "scotch free” In medieval England, there was a tax called a “scot,” and if someone was able to avoid paying it, they would be getting off “scot free.” And over 800 years later, we still use the expression when someone gets away with something without being punished or penalized.

When I was 13 I got hit by a car on my way home from school, the impact was loud, the driver didn't stop, the driver of the van on the other side of the road who had stopped to let me cross was screaming obscenities at the hit and run lady, he asked me if I was okay, I answered a shaky "yes" and went home. I was not, all the bones from my pinky to my shoulder ended up dislocated and I had a fun new fear. I kept having nightmares, and one night when I was in my mom's bed because I couldn't sleep I asked her how a person could just drive away like that, for all she knew I could be dead, that must be a horrible guilt to live with. My mom, understandably, did not care about her feelings, and she told me something along the lines of "I hope she always feels this guilt" and that I shouldn't worry about her feelings. I never want to drive, I'm 25 and too scared to hold this kind of power in my hands, and sometimes I still think about her, is she wracked with the guilt of possibly killing/disabling a kid? Did she ever care? Please don't drink and drive, respect stop signs, and if you ever accidentally hit someone, try your best to help that person. For them and for yourself.

Once I dreamed to drive my car and all of a sudden a little girl appeared out of the dark in front of me. The split second I had to see her in the eyes and hit her straight on, the upcoming horror catapulted me thankfully into reality. It took me half an hour to calm me down and haunted me for days. This guy did the one right thing to cope with such guilty feelings. You don't even have to be responsible for the tragedy. Your life will change completely anyways. Your guilt may be accurate, but it has great potential to ruin Your personality. Seek help long before getting mad.

@frankhooper7871 There is nothing unforgivable in this world, according 2 God's words 2 his people....except one thing ( please read a Bible 4 that answer).We often cannot 4give ourselves, but our LordJesusChrist isn't that harsh of a Father. This young man caused a death, acknowledged it, is/was willing 2 pay the price 4 it. That's such a great start....of course he would like 2 receive 4giveness, why would he not?. Less serious things have happened throughout all of our lives that need 4giveness...Jesus' arms are always open 2 receive 🙏🏼. Namaste

He said he would serve his full sentence, but ended up applying for early release, which was granted. He didn’t cooperate with police before making his confession. He never apologized to the victim’s daughter. These are all things said by the victim’s daughter, Angela Canzani. She believes this man’s confession was self-serving. She didn’t want him to be released early. She just wants people to remember her dad, instead of focusing their attention on the man who took her dad’s life. RIP Vincent Canzani

@@mydogghost Have you even been through a situation like this before? You’re replying to all my comments disagreeing with everything, yet asking some of the most basic questions. Have you never been in court for this kind of sentencing? The defendant gets to speak, the victims get to submit victim impact statements and read them if they would like to, and the victims get to be there at the sentencing with family and friends for support. Of course this guy knew his victim had daughters, and had the chance to apologize to them. Google “Angela Canzani” and read her opinions of her father’s killer.
