Those $44 and $47 mil salaries were earned. Russ was the most productive point guard at the time. All Coach Vogel had to do was be strong and put Russ at his natural position and let him lead The Lakers offense because Bron and AD are more natural and more efficient scorers and Russ has always been a player that will feed his teammates. Russ and James were the top combo guards in the nba until Luka Doncic came along. When he received that huge deal from OKC, he was electric and there was no evidence of a potential decline at the time, he deserved that max extension. Then he proved his value and leadership in Washington with Bradley Beal. To me the season and a half with The Lakers was more of a failure of leadership and imagination from both Frank Vogel and Darvin Ham(both eventually fired by the way) Once Russ was allowed to go back to his natural position as a starting pg with The Los Angeles Clippers, he thrived. We also have the 3 non Murray games in Denver where Russ thrived as the starting point guard. Russ is not really made for a reserve role but he's trying.

​@sammyslam1 The Lakers team did not work because the 2 other top paid Lakers players barely paid and when they did they had no chemistry with the team itself, a team that was poorly constructed and filled with minimum contracts. The 4th highest paid player didn't play at all the 1st season Russ was there and when the big 3 were on the court together, their weaknesses showed more than their strengths did, specifically because the team around them sucked defensively. AD stuck at the 5 (better for his offense but without being #1 option is hurting them more than helping) Bron chucking half court shots with plenty of time on the clock and his and Westbrook's inability to play well offball, a bunch of small guards and not enough size. Russ earned his supermax and was forced to buy out early because he actually wants to win and help the team he's on. And he never cheats the game. If he feels good enough to play, he' gonna play and with more energy than anyone I've ever seen. Rlly a dude cut from a different cloth, his personality and his game keep the old era alive. They don't make players like Westbrook anymore.

I have always liked Westbrook, thought he was getting treated like trash as a Laker I thought his career would turn around once he became a Nugget and he has done pretty dang good in doing just that I want a Denver Nugget Westbrook Jersey and I would wear it proudly for the star that fell but came back and stepped back up his game from being trashed as a Laker he just didn't fit with the likes of Le'bum Go Nuggets!

If he consistently shoots like this while opponents are underestimating him just because he's not a starter, they'll never know what hit them. Nobody is gonna complain if russ finally wins a championship at this point. The media will have a feast of such a roller coaster story of his career. Would have been better if he got it with the clippers because of the reunion with harden but whatever. I just hope he wins at least one before he retires.

Even while clearly struggling as a #3 option after being either a #1 or #2 his entire nba career and being off ball with no creative plan from the offensive coaching staff(until after the all star break....Vogel did finally wake up and all anyone has to do is look at Russ' last 30 games in 2021/2022) Russ was still giving The Lakers 18/8/8(22/8/8 in the non LeBron games) The fact of the matter is neither Bron or AD could stay on the damn floor in 2021/2022 and the first half of 2022/2023 At salaries of $44 and $47 mil, Russ needed to be The Lakers point guard leading their offense and featuring AD in pick and roll actions. That was the time to lighten the load on Bron and give AD and Russ the green light to lead The Lakers.
