If you look at the grounds of the 1980s, you can see that they were uneven everywhere, the grass was long, and there were no sprinklers installed under the ground like there are today, so the soil was hard. Hot take, but his dribbling is way overrated. Notice how he refuses to use his right foot? He was completely dependent on his dominant foot. It still worked for him in the 20th century, because the average level of athleticism in the sport was lower than it is today, and Maradona simply relied on his superior quickness and momentum to blow by slower defenders. In today's sport, Maradona would struggle greatly. Top-flight players today are much more athletic as a rule, and they'd destroy Maradona if he were this predictable with his touches.
