Behind the scenes: Mary, I'm so happy you loved another Clint Eastwood film and I'm glad you liked the cast of "Million Dollar Baby". This was the first film I ever worked on as a casting assistant. During the casting process, regarding the role of "Maggie", my former boss (Phyllis Huffman) called Clint and suggested he take a look at Hilary Swank. He told us to meet with her in NY and if we liked her, we could set up a meeting for them in LA. When she came in to our office, we fell in love. She was so sweet and down to earth. So we set up a meeting at his office, she flew out to LA and they hit it off immediately. We saw no other actors for that role. One thing I truly admire about Clint is that he trusts his instincts. He doesn't tend overthink things. Thats why many times he only shoots 2 or 3 takes (per setup) and then moves on. At times, Clint has been know to shoot his rehearsals. Some of his best takes have come from them because the actors are relaxed and are in the moment. Mary, I can't wait to see your next Clint Eastwood movie reaction. Best, Geoff Miclat

This story is so powerful. Clint's character is trying so hard to reconcile with his Catholic faith's dogma, when he is forced, out of love, to choose to commit that faith's most rigidly unforgivable act. A self-sacrifice he'll never be able to live with having made, and could not have done otherwise. I don't know of another film that is this heart-wrenching.

interesting Fact: The piano score you hear in the movie was composed by Clint Eastwood himself. Also, this movie resulted in the ONLY Oscar win for Morgan Freeman (he won Best Supporting Actor for this). Clint's directorial abilities are very underrated mostly because of how known he is as an actor. His stories rarely have happy endings or involve people with conventional morals, but he draws a raw humanity out of his actors that makes what you see bypass your mind and go straight to the heart.

Quite a powerful film and you were bound to respond to it the way audiences everywhere did. Parenthetically, I think this was the first film I worked on as an extra - I even spotted myself as one of the ringside judges at the title fight. And through working on four more Eastwood films discovered he's a very economical director, wasting no time and often getting exactly what he wanted in one or two takes.

But I was shocked that he started in '71 with "Play Misty for Me," at that he is actually one of the more prolific ones. My favorite one is "Unforgiven," which is a very subdued movie-almost novel like, which is fitting, as the Western genre was originally explored on the written page.

Mary!!! Kudos for tackling this extremely poignant, well-done movie. Everyone is doing "Gran Torino," so I always suggest this movie as another example of Clint Eastwood's directorial excellence. However, I saw it on TV once and it made me so angry at the opponent, not to mention the second half of the movie being what it is. Whatever the case may be, I'm jazzed that you're doing it because you're such a sincere viewer, which makes your channel so compelling. Thanks for doing this one. So far you're the only one. :)

Dirty Harry, A Fistful of Dollars, Outlaw Josey Wales, High Plains Drifter, Unforgiven please. And he directed Mystic River which might be Sean Penn's and Tim Robbin's best performances (they both won Oscars).

Now you’ll have to watch 1992’s Unforgiven, the Oscar-winning Clint Eastwood movie, also working with Morgan Freeman. Probably the best western ever made.

I too am a late appreciator or Clint Eastwood. I love all the movies he also directed , he is gifted in both acting and directing. Another must see is “ Bridges over Madison County”.

I was so furious with this film when I first saw it and got to the end of it. I've never been able to watch it again until your YT edit and at least I had your company this time. Hilary won her second Best Actress Oscar for this film. She won her first for my friend Kimberly's film BOYS DON'T CRY, which you should see as well.

Boys Don't Cry is hard to take -- but probably the best movie ever about the struggle of trans people to get by in a world scared of anything different. Of course it shadows the real-life story of Mathew Sheppard, but still hits you in the heart. Totally worth a watch and a cry.

1) Someone probably has mentioned this already, but Hilary Swank's breakout movie is the 1999 film "Boy's Don't Cry" for which she won an Oscar/Academy Award. It's based on a true story and very thought provoking. 2) If you want to see another Clint Eastwood film that won a Best Picture Oscar and he won an Oscar for Best Director, see his western film "Unforgiven". He also acts in in along with Morgan Freeman; Gene Hackman won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. NOTE: Both of these films were selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant"

Fantastic, i would say, kind of "old style" (no CGI, effects, just a story, great acting etc. :) ) movie. It should receive so much more attention. Truly great movie (with that mind-blowing "twist" you really don't expect as viewer - it makes this movie soo deep).
