I still ride a 1986 lugged steel Bianchi Ocelot (MTB). I updated it with; v brakes, hollow-tech crank, and a 1X drive train.

A while back I cleaned out a tweaker house and within 30 seconds among the piles of trash and trash bikes I spotted a mid 90s blue Ocelot. But even before I called dibs another guy claimed it!

Bianchi’s are painted Celeste because Edwardo wanted white bikes but was colour blind. His staff wanted to add some colour to the white paint and Celeste was the point just before he could notice the difference, apparently.

Even if this just may be a legend, I want to believe it! Imagine the customers praising the nice colour in front of a puzzled Mr. Bianchi and his cheekyy workers behind him giving each other conspirational nods and smiles.

Celeste became the colour or Bianchi after the 2nd World War as one of the few paints available was military green so they toned it down by mixing it with white.

I got a Bianchi Bike in Celeste in 1975 for my 8th birthday. It was a kind of commuter road bike which we call in german „Halbrenner“. It was my first real bike and I still love and own some old steel bikes. I often think about looking for a vintage bianchi road bike to ride the bike of my introduction into the fascinating adventure of road cycling.

My first serious bike 50 years ago was a Bianchi. I still cycle (age 72) in hilly area of New England, and would happy to "go out" on a Bianchi, but alas, for the level of bike I wanted, Bianchi was outside my budget. I found a wonderful deal on a Colnago. Very happy with it these past 6 years, but would have liked to test ride the one against a comparable Bianchi, but it was just silly to think I could afford the Bianchi, so test didn't happen.

Bianchi may have been founded in 1885 but credit for the safety bicycle is given to Englishman John Kemp Starley in the same year. His bike, named The Rover also had chain drive by Hans Renold of Manchester and 26'' wheels with John Boyd Dunlops pneumatic tyres front and rear so predating Bianchi by a fair way. As you can see all the innovation in the cycle world at this time were coming from England and Scotland (Great Britain). Eduardo Bianchi was obviously very on the ball and took on board what was happening in Great Britain with Starley, Renolds and Dunlop and used this technology of the time to his advantage so he was a very shrewd and forward thinking man and he did bring in many his own innovations later on as the impressive folding full suspension military bike so clearly shows. Bianchi has a long history, and has built a reputation founded on the company's successes in racing and it is testament to this that they have survived where many others have fallen by the wayside.

I still have my 1987 Bianchi Sport SX in Celeste. Made in Japan with a fantastic tube set. I rode probably a dozen bikes, and the Bianchi rode better than all of them. I put thousands of miles on it before I moved to XC. Still love that bike. So beautiful. It might have been one of the first Italian bikes made in Asia. The quality is amazing and I got a much better bike than the entry level Italian Bianchi for about $600 less. In fact, you would have to spend about $1200 more to get a bike of the same quality as mine, made in Italy. Thanks for the story of one of my favorite bicycle brands.

The Rover also came out in 1885. I wonder which one actually hit the market first. Speaking of companies that have gone downhill in recent decades, the training wheel was developed by Huffy bicycles of Dayton, Ohio. Before they became a disposable department store bike.

There is an abandoned bike shop in my area. The owner is dealing with some mental health stuff and was older. I have a vintage Bianchi it's so old that when I contacted Bianchi for information they couldn't provide me much on it. It also has Shimano components which is odd, this must have been before they were using campagnalo parts mostly. I did a tour of my Bianchi bike for any curious people on my channel. I'm the second owner! The original owner had it sitting in a garage for years. I can't find the model for my Bianchi either so if anyone knows.. Please chime in

Nice video, well done Zach! Bianchis are excellent bikes, and now slightly more price friendly than Pinarellos and Colnagos. If you are an high end biker you shoud consider the titanium products by Passoni, an international renewed cycling boutique close to Milan. But In Italy you have an actual bike industrial district mostly in Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia Romagna regions with dozens of manufacturers and some of the finest brands. As to me, I am going to buy the new 2024 edition Bianchi Impulso gravel bike. Of course in the celeste colour. Ciao da Milano!

Schwinn frames are solid still! I've never seen a broken schwinn frame, only a stripped out BB shell. I've snapped a Norco charger, folded a specialized p.3 and cracked a trek Excalibur. The dimes on a schwinn frame are beautiful compared to alot of the main manufacturers. I know you're talking about fixi/road bikes but you can't hate on schwinn . They have people pumping out quality frames at a ridiculously high rate of speed. The components they put on them is what makes them shit.

EVERY SINGLE Taiwanese bike component I've owned or seen has been nothing short of exquisite in function and form. Most all the really lovely bits you see at Velo-ORANGE and Rivendell Bicycle Works are Taiwanese. I was VERY disappointed, insulted when a Cinelli seat post arrived with a Made In China label on it, I felt deceived. It was an OK post, but still.
