Fun facts: In the scene where Lucius says: "We should all be glad that Mr. Potter is here to save the day", Daniel Radcliffe was supposed to stay silent, but said that awesome: "Don't worry, I will be" line, which was completely improvised. In the DVD, Jason Isaacs (Malfoy's actor) was so impressed with Daniel and he said: "That's not a kid. That's a 13-year old actor!". Also, the scene where Lucius kicks Dobby was also improvised. Jason just kicked air, and Chris Columbus (the director) thought he slipped, but Jason said: "That's something Lucius would definitely do", and they decided to keep it.

Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malefoy) also mentioned being really impressed by Tom Felton (Draco Malefoy) in the scenes they shared together. At one point, Isaacs accidentally stabbed Felton hard with his cane but both actors kept going and finished the scene as if nothing happened. Once they were done, Isaacs apologized profusely to Felton who simply replied "It's okay, it was good for the scene". Total pro at such a young age.

Some wizarding explanations: 1. Underage wizards are not allowed to perform magic outside of school. They have a spell called the Trace on them, which alerts the Ministry of Magic to spells being performed. This is not perfect, because kids in wizard houses or on Diagon Alley always have magic happening around them, but muggleborn kids can always be traced when they perform a spell. Harry actually gets in big trouble in the book because the levitating charm that Dobby used on the desert was blamed on Harry. 2. Dumbledore was born in 1881, so he's over a hundred when the series takes place. Wizards live about twice as long as normal people. 3. Memory Riddle was syphoning off Ginny's life, so when the book was destroyed, her life force was instantly brought back to her.

Few minor details that might enhance your experience for the next several movies: 1 - Underage wizards/witches (being anyone under 17) is 'technically' not allowed to do magic outside of Hogwarts; rule is lifted at 17 when they come of age 2 - I am Lord Voldemort is what I believe is called an 'anagram' of Tom Marvolo Riddle; meaning it's all the same letters, just the order is shuffled to change the meaning 3 - Magic is supposed to only be used on/around muggles in the most extreme of cases; anything else is 'technically' considered illegal.

@@BazookaGamingGirl When shooting a major movie the scenes are rarely shot in the order they appear in the movie. Most of the scenes are shot in the studio, but a few a shot "on location". The production team has to rent the space they want, get permits to close public streets and so on. Some scenes are shot at King's Cross, Hagrid and Harry are walking around central London, The Dursley's house is an actual house. For scheduling reasons the producers like to get the location days taken care of early. The absolute first day of shooting was done at a British Heritage railway, North Yorkshire Moors, which had rented their station Goathland to act as the scene for Hogsmeade station. First they shot in daylight, this is the final scene in the movie as Harry and the others leave to get back to London. The second scene shot is where the Train first arrives in Hogsmeade, it was shot the same day, but later, in the dark. This means that for the character Harry only one month elapsed from leaving Hogsmeade until he sat in his bedroom in Surrey looking at his picture album, which i how the second movie starts. But for the actor Daniel Radcliffe almost a year had passed, and this makes a difference if you are only 11 or 12 years old. I volunteer at a Swedish heritage railway and we've participated in movie shooting. I've been in on the planning and everything is planned a long way ahead.

As a fellow book nerd, I can't stress enough: READ THESE BOOKS! There's a very intricate story weaved into perfection. You have a lot of questions and little inquiries that are covered. While the movies are great (soundtrack is amazing/iconic actors for the roles), the further you get along in the films, the more that gets cut from the books, and tons of character growth is passed over.

1:27 idk i mean the directors changed and so the tone of the movies changes drastically - and as the books got longer it got harder to put in everything for the movies BUT despite that they are still enjoyable 2:27 yes every movie takes place over the span of a school year so the beginning of every movie is the beginning of another school year - and while the actors obviously got much older than the characters were supposed to be due to the time difference between when the movies were made, it's hard to tell - but harry and his friends are meant to be around 12 in this movie and 13 in the next movie and so on 4:42 theyre not allowed to - its illegal lol 13:40 yk quidditch matches in the book are rlly funny bc the commentator has a crush on angelina and so he'll be saying things about how she won't go out with him and professor mcgonagall would get mad at him and remind him to commentate lmao

They didn't go into it in the films, but in the 1st book Hagrid told Harry that while underaged wizards aren't allowed to use magic outside of Hogwarts without having a Wizard adult present, he does tell him that the Dursleys don't know that and that if he say.... told that that if they messed with him Harry would use his magic against them they'd probably treat him a little better. That's why they gave Harry that bedroom. It's also worth noting that the bedroom was always there and was used as a second playroom for Dudley because he didn't have room for all his toys in his own bedroom. I think after Dobby dropped the cake on those people the Ministry immediately sent a letter saying Harry has violated the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery (They can detect when magic is performed but not who did it, they didn't know Dobby was there), though he is not actually punished (possibly because it is only his first offence (The incident at the zoo with the disappearing glass was looked over because most if not all wizards under 11 years old often cause shit to happen with their unfocused magic)).

hey Ange, new subscriber here. :) I read these books as they were being released (it felt like I was growing up at the same time as the characters too), and of course I was watching the movies as they were coming out as well. I'm enjoying seeing your reactions to this series as you're approaching it with fresh eyes as an adult without the nostalgia, but you're still enjoying it regardless! :) I remember the spider and Basilisk scenes being really intense for me as a child. Seeing these scenes again through your reaction, and it's amazing that the effects used in the movie still hold up and look quite convincing even though it's been several years since the movie was made. I look forward to your reactions to the other movies, the plot just keeps getting better and the acting improves so much as the actors begin to mature into their roles. The tone becomes a lot darker from 3 onwards!

Hey Angelina! I just subbed from seeing your first movie reaction, and I'm so glad to see you invested already! I love how much energy and personality you show in your reactions and it's fun in a way I hadn't experienced before in a reactor! It's pretty amazing how important a role Hagrid plays to the main trio, and this movie made it crystal clear how much the kids love him. It just feels so wholesome, especially since in later movies, he gets so much disdain from other teachers, students, ect. from racism. But just the moment of Harry saying that Hogwarts isn't Hogwarts without Hagrid, just....gets me EVERY time.

I only ask that you watch this with one thing in mind. You get to watch these weekly or how often you choose. However, for those of us that grew up with these, we literally GREW UP at the same time with these actors. That spacing and timing is so important as these characters develop. Yes by the way, each movie is one school year except the last which I'm sure you know is split into 2 movies.

This one is a bit stronger than the first one, though some have criticized the first two movies for sticking so close to the original books that they’re slavish and lack surprises. I think for the audience who hadn’t read the books, they’re perfectly fine. They are rather long and they are a lot of talking since they follow the books so heavily, but I was still invested in what was going on. From this point on, though, the series kept getting longer and longer, so the next movie is when they started cutting subplots and characters so they could focus more on Harry’s personal story. With everything in hindsight, I think they did a good job streamlining everything. At the time I would get disappointed when this or that didn’t make it into the movie or something wouldn’t get as much focus. But as an adult I now see what they were going for and now I don’t mourn the loss of x character or x subplot. Whether you like or dislike the direction they go in moving forward regarding how they adapt the source material is ultimately just something for personal taste. I think all eight movies are well made, well acted for the most part with good effects, stories, characters, etc. I can appreciate them all for what they are, and I’m excited to see your first time reaction to this whole world they built!

Great reaction video! I'm working my way through them all with you. You remind me so much of my girlfriend who is from Hong Kong! This is the first Potter movie I watched, with my 9 year-old daughter, her first Potter movie too. She was enthralled from beginning to end, was suitably terrified by the basilisk pursuit and as the camera zoomed away from the Great Hall at the end, she turned to me with tears in her eyes, and said, "Dad, that was the best film I've ever seen!" She's 29 this year, expecting her first baby and sadly not such a Potter fanatic, but those are the great memories...!
