What a great video! It was an absolute miracle the engine didn't hit anything when Daniel released that ratchet strap. But it sounds smooth as hell. Can't wait for part two.

Combination of luck and profession 😎 but both of us had our harts miss one stroke 🤣 But both of us still feel the lack of sleep and relieved that it ran and passed the inspection/MOT 😅 Regardless if the KZbin community wants us to do something similar again, we will do it (with or without camera).

👍🇦🇺Hi Adam, about time I added a comment. I have never owned a Jaguar or had a particular interest in them. I’ve been watching your show since it’s inception. Now I find myself looking at used Jags, I have you to thank for that. 😂👍🇦🇺
@markstott6091Ай бұрын
Don't thank him! They're the biggest wallet emptying machines on the planet if you get a bad one! As a magazine review I read once said... "This car has POWER! Only your bank manager will ever catch you!" Mine was a good one, the love of my life & largely rust free... I did all the work on it myself (except a head gasket done under warranty) and still it left me broke with 19mpg fuel consumption. Still miss it, 20 years later, and I'd sell my kids into slavery for another. 😅

I'm really enjoying you channel. Lots of good practical advice. Oil pressure is a real worry. I had a 3.8l that wouldn't show any pressure on cranking and you can't pre oil via the dizzy hole. I tried allsorts but in the end, someone on a forum said "just start it it will be fine". With heart in mouth, I fired her up and showed pressure immediately. Great engines. I run a 96 XK8 hardtop now, a very pretty car with a full veneer dash and round dials. Electrically it's a challenge but that's part of the fun.

The fact that it was a Dubai car probably explains the failing varnish on the interior and maybe the failed cooling belt that cooked the original engine ! It’s great that you found a deserving home for the stored spare engine… it’s quite a special car to have running on the road these days.

I love the XJ40. I remember when it came out in '86 and I loved the square-jawed look of the front & rear wings; made it look a bit more butch. Also loved the smoked rear lamps, as when no lights are showing, it's all one charcoal-looking colour. Edit: AJ6 engine is gernously quite robust.

A load leveller for the engine hoist is a great piece of kit. Not expensive and great for changing the inclination as you gradually raise the engine

How sensitive are Jaguars to spark-plug brand? I had trouble with some Vauxhall motors that would only work well with GM's AC-Delco plugs (the original type fitted). Allegedly equivalent Champions (according to maker's charts) just would not perform. It was a long time ago, so things may have changed, and it's hard to see what could go wrong with such simple components. (No moving parts.)
@LivingWithAClassicАй бұрын
They’re not that sensitive. I’ve run both NGK and Champion. Both run great
@usernamesreprise4068Ай бұрын
A simple check for all inicators without having to eyeball each one individually is to simply turn one side on and listen, an even speed of tick indicates all bulbs on that side are working, then do the same for the other side, if one side goes much faster than the other you know you have a bulb out - even the side repeaters as the current in the indicator relay will increase causing it to make and break contact quicker. try it yourself by taking one bulb out on one side and running it, the difference in speed will be plainly evident. this is delberate because even from behind the wheel you will be able to tell a bulb has gone.
@LivingWithAClassicАй бұрын
Not on an XJ40 were a control module for each side controls it. But otherwise a good test on other cars
@usernamesreprise4068Ай бұрын
@@LivingWithAClassic I think you will find the control modules have the same characteristics in place with sometimes the addition of a dash tell tale reporting a bulb outage using the same voltage signitures.

Although this car was launched in 1984 it's sort of topical as it was Jaguar's first attempt at breaking away from it's traditional styling and image. Obviously the next generation reverted to the earlier styling.

Here's an idea. If you need to wash an engine, or do some other dirty job when it's already dark, maybe you could buy a few bright tripod lights to make it easier for you to work outside so that you don't make a mess in your workshop.

Like I said in the video, i couldn't get the engine outside. There is a steep incline and it would be impossible. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do
