By the time I saw this in 2024, I looked you guys up on Insta and saw that Brickle had just passed. What a heartwarming story that you gave this "sad doggie" a chance, and that he paid you back in spades. Rescue dogs are just the best. I hope Brickle's memory is a comfort, and that you all continue to heal and find joy in what's to come, both for you guys and Fruitycake. HUGS AND LOVE!!

Think of all the Brickles out there- getting passed up every day. I volunteer at a shelter and see some dogs we’ve had 2 years. They get passed up for puppies, fluffies, every day. I pray for more people that can see the special value in every single dog and cat. This family makes me beyond happy. RIP Digby.

This couple and their dogs - Digby (RIP), Brickle, and Fruitycake - are an inspiration. Mopey, sad dogs are old souls! It takes special people to see this in them, but they're greatly rewarded for it. When my last remaining dog got to ~15/16, we took a roadtrip x-country, west to east coast. By then, he couldn't really hike, yet there was nothing more pleasant than going from one Long Beach to another, seeing him on a warm day in winter, standing at the shoreline, gazing towards the sunlight and ears blowing in the breeze. Whenever I look at these photos of him now, I feel a sense of calm and serenity. (RIP, Chet, Max, Friday, and Pete.💕🍀☮️☀️🌈)

Beautiful. This video and your comment take away every doubt wether one should travel with an older dog. Yes, all the signs confirm that it is the best thing. But somehow I regretted not giving my dog the old known places to sniff and meet friends. But then I remember the joy to go and discover ; every time we came back, the next morning he looked like : what's the plan, I'm really ready for a next adventure. I know for sure he did not envy a life of resting 20 hours a day and I really bless myself to have adopted a dog who until the last minute was eager to discover and find out new tasts and places. Esp.an adopted dog has more chances to overcome eventual sadness or regrets from his earlier life while being outside and in nature. I love his look at the water 🌅

had to say goodbye to my beloved Barney over a year ago (he was 17 years old) and still miss him every day. We had a camper van and he would jump into it whenever he could and just sit in the drivers seat waiting to go exploring. I too remember watching him when he was older, just laying on the warm sand enjoying watching all that was happening on the beach. would have loved to have known what he was thinking. Just so glad that I gave him a good life and let him go peacefully at the end with no suffering.

Your story is humbling - how you take rescue dogs that aren't perceived as the perfect, most attractive dogs in the shelter and see something in them and give them a chance. You show unconditional love to them just as they are (and they really hit the jackpot on traveling and experiencing the country with you!) God Bless you, your husband, and Brickle and Fruitycake - may you be safe and healthy as you travel. Best 4 mins of my day. We love dogs too, and long ago, once we had a very special girl we named Smiley because her smilely ways were so wildly enthusiastic, and she chose us to care for her after she found herself as a stray. It was Christmas Day when she insisted that we were her people and we loved her forever after. Any excuse can still bring me to tears over Smiley, I still really miss all the special qualities about her. She was a red and white cattle dog, and she knew how to make genuine life friends with everyone. Thanks for your beautiful video.

What a wonderful love story. He is a beautiful dog and it is a better world because you found each other. I have been fortunate enough to always have dogs since I was about 10 years old. I am now 55 and lost one about 6 months ago. I still have two but I still feel the loss of everyone that I have ever had. Each was unique and I loved everyone of them. I still love them and always will. As I get older I know the day will come when I can no longer care for a dog. I do not know how I will handle that day. I have a wife of over 25 years and three children that I love very much, but dogs are different. I have never had a disagreement with my dog. No dog has ever judged my opinions or actions. No dog has ever lied to me. I have never paid for a dog and I never will unless that is the only option to save them. What dogs have done is listen when I need to unload without hurting feelings.. Dogs provide good counsel without saying a thing, Dogs are not only a loyal friend but can help you meet new friends. Dogs provide endless entertainment without a subscription, I have one the loves to sing along with anyone who will sing with him. I have two small dogs that are afraid of thunder, but love it when my wife puts their rain coats on them to go walk in the rain. I guess I am a dog guy.
