I think if you're an optimistic person Maine is great! You have the beach, the forest, rivers, even Portland Maine downtown area is better than most larger city downtowns. I moved there from the West Coast and loved it at first, since I lived in a desert climate and it has so many trees. I was in love with the eastern promenade. Being able to go on little adventures to different places nearby like rivers and lakes. The summer is gorgeous probably the best in the country. The year I was there at least. It rains a lot but you can't beat the 70 to 80 degrees weather. San Diego is probably the only place that competes...and seeing the beautiful foliage in fall! The negative for me was the ppl. I never made like close friends there but I feel like the older I get, being a nomadic person who moves a lot, I have to learn more and more to enjoy my own company

@mainemermaid6596 Жыл бұрын
Actually, we have tick problems here now too. There don't seems to be as many birds as there once was due to pesticides (They kl migratory birds who stop on farmland to rest and become poisoned - and from people spraying poisonous bug killer in their yards, not realizing that it kills ALL bugs, even beneficial ones, and small animals, like our squirrels, rabbits, birds, and beneficial bats as well). Best thing to encourage birds & bats by putting up houses and a bird feeder, keeping your grass short, and raking your leaves around your house in the Fall. That's made can big difference for us, and we live deep in the woods.
@lewis731510 ай бұрын
The bugs are only a problem when the wind stops blowing like at night.... two hurricane lanterns filled with citronella keeps the bugs away... paint your fly screens with kerosene to keep the black flys out... the quiet can be far too loud for some people.

I'm from Maine but the military moved us to Southern California when I was a kid and my life was made there. My dad and I weren't huge fans of California and wanted to go back when he retired, but my mom was never leaving California to go back to the cold. I still have complaints about California and have considered moving elsewhere, including Maine and other places on the East Coast, but can never do it primarily due to the bugs. One amazing thing about California is being able to enjoy the outdoors and great weather without the swarms and bug spray. Yes, there are animals to watch out for, but at least they aren't disease-carrying bloodsuckers swarming you. I'm a car guy and it's also nice to be able to enjoy my car yearround without it getting so dirty and rusty on roads not quite so weather-damaged.

My wife, an Oklahoma native and lived in Texas for the past 30 years, wants nothing to do with Maine. I have taken her there on vacations; Portland, Freeport, Bar Harbor, and Presque Isle, and she loves the Summers only. Any advice? Yes. Many Massholes, Summer people moved up here during rona. Mass, NY, Jersey, CT -all pricks, driving like maniacs, beeping and road raging, distracted, and their spoiled, entitled, bratts blare music and run over animals because they speed recklacely down our old, narrow, carriage roads. They bring their bad attitudes, and the worst part, the Leftist politics that destroyed the state they're from. They take zero responsibility for what they did (learned nothing -too arrogant), bring drugs, and proceed to try and make Maine like where they're from. I really don't understand why they don't just go to Vermont or Southern NewHampshire, where they can commiserate amidst their own W/Jokers. Aside from Portland, Maine's MAGA country! God, family, and the Constitution & rights therein (2A). We protect our children from groomers here, and believe in the traditional American values, morals, and ethics that made our Republic the greatest in the world. And, we will defend it when push comes to shove, so all I can say is, don't come if you're virtue signalling, Leftst, turd.
