I built a number of these Monogram models back in the 60s long before Monogram merged with Revell. Yes that far back. They were reissued a number of times. These models were designed to present well with or without paint. The detail ,fit quality and finish were fantastic. Thanks to the internet I've been able to buy replacements as my originals did not survive. Try the Roll Royce next as it had opening doors and steerable front wheels. This line of kits sold for around $3.00 back then and a tube of Testors cement was 10 cents.

These are great kits, which is why I chose this subject for this group build. I built the Rolls as a child and it was a challenge. Thanks for watching!

I have the packard boattail of the metal masters edition. I believe it came out in 1988ish? Cat knocked it off the shelf, now it’s copper and black with red pinstripes and gold trim.

Looks most excellent. Going to be another awesome build. I would just add one thing. Why don't you build them both simultaneously. You cut the tops so clean they both should go right back. It would be like a photo and the negative at the same time, Sam

Looking Awesome!! Does panel liner count, or can you use it?
@timkustom15 күн бұрын
I believe Sodak mentioned using panel liner as well as Molotow pens and Sharpie markers. I'm trying to keep those to a minimum. Glad you enjoyed it.!

Looking good! Was there any benefit to the driver being exposed to the elements, or was it just pure spite towards the help?
@timkustom15 күн бұрын
Interesting question. I'd say there can't be any benefit to having a soiled chauffer open your door. Stay tuned!

That's a good looking paint-less build, no doubt about it. But I'm wondering if the judges in your contest will approve of your choice to swap the tops of the plated and black molded kits since they had to be physically cut off each piece. This is quite a bit different than swapping the unmodified fender and interior assemblies, and other parts. That said, cutting the tops from the bodies required lots of patience and skill, with absolutely NO margin for error. Much respect for that! The plated "stainless steel" Duesenberg body looks great, and I wish you the best of luck! 25th Like.

This is not a contest. It is a group build challenge. The only real "rule" is to not use any paint. There might be a little "gray area" allowing Molotow pens and Sharpie markers, which if used will be very minimal. Any decals, parts swapping, or construction techniques are allowed and encouraged. Thanks for the interest and glad you enjoyed the video.

@@timkustom I get that. At first, it sounded to me like the old "Out-of-the-Box Contest" rules of the 1970's - 1980's when I was in IPMS. Other than aftermarket decals, very little was permitted. For aircraft modelers, you could thin trailing edges, drill out gunports, and even add some simple rigging if shown on the box art, but nothing more. The understood rule-of-thumb was that adding the antenna to a P-51 Mustang was allowed, but the complete rigging of a Fokker Eindecker was not. The biggest exception was the rule that if the kit's instruction sheet specifically suggested a modification, you could do it. I once entered the 1/48th scale Hawk / ITC OV-10A Bronco kit which specifically showed that the canopy could be cut and posed open to "test" the rules, and had no problems. (I was 17 at the time.) But this was more of a potentially contentious issue for model car builders since anyone with an old AMT "Styline" kit that had instructions specifically saying you could use parts from other kits could have been a problem; to say nothing of being permitted "by the instructions" to perform major restyling. Fortunately, in my IPMS Chapter, we all accepted the spirit of the rules as well as the letter, and I don't remember any serious problems. Have fun with your group build, and I'll look forward to your finished builds!

Why does your no paint, half finished car look better than my finished ones?!
