I think he was very right about that. Canada would be so much better without political parties. It would mean a truer democracy.

Picking a political party is akin to picking a favorite hockey team. It is just another way to feel apart of something bigger than yourself. This tribal mentality can work, you just have to zoom out to 8 billion people.

It seems to me that instead of Nunavut adopting the party system the rest of Canada should adopt the Nunavut system and give up the unproductive rankling that we now have.

Nunavut seems like the only civil part of Canada at this point. The tribal politics is insane in the rest of Canada. "Us vs Them" when is should just be "Let's work together to make things better".

Very interesting system. Does anyone know if this system can work in places with large population? It seems to me that the only places using consensus-style government right now are the northern territories, several of the islands in the Pacific, and the Isle of Man - places with relatively small population. America when founded also did not have political parties, but overtime parties started to form, and after the Civil War came the two-party system (Electoral College played huge a roll). If America were to have this system would it work, even with the large population?

Eh... As they mentioned in the video, they have a hard time deciding province wide issues as is, which, on a national level, could lead to a disastrous foreign policy.

I think that consensus government might work well with some form of direct-democracy. Citizens can initiate referendums and the politicians can focus on coming up with solutions.

And some people really need to understand that being political is not the same as being registered with a political party, because political parties were invented in order to make voting much easier for voters so in that way they can vote for that particular politician because he or she is a part of that party instead of voting for some random politician.

I would rather have an open party list parliamentary system. Nunavut has 36,858 people in 2021. Nunavut will form political parties at 100,000 or 200,000 people.

I don't fully understand the part about the cabinet ministers. Why are they "expected" to vote together? Also what about this structure leads to them focusing on more local issues and less on broader ones?, The video says that's what happens but not why that happens Great video though, it seems like a really cool system

Because in the westminster system, the ministers vote with the leader unless they've been given a conscience vote. A minister who votes against the government is expected to resign from their cabinet position

There must be One Leader and one Executive committee that runs the nation. No elections and no parties. Each executive committee member (including the leader) must retire after 40 years of age. The selection of new members must be done via strict and rigorous examination and tests after every 5 years or should a Executive committee member or the leader retires. Anyone aged 18-30 should be allowed the examination. #NoPoliticsNoCurruption

This system is undemocratic. The people have no say over their government is run, and the four least popular representatives could end up becoming premier & cabinet members. This political system enhances the oligarchical problems we face, and guarantee that you will never have either the most qualified (those with the greatest wisdom and/or skill) or those with the greatest public mandate (representatives who won the greatest share of votes) ruling over you.
