Don Enriquez, the guy who field tested all that stuff for Hilborn back in the day, currently works for Holley up in BG. You would probably be miles ahead in your learning curve on that thing by hitting him up directly. Also, the mechanical injection needs to be shut off by killing fuel because it's a pressurized system directly powered by the engine. When you kill the ignition first, the engine can spin a revolution or two with no spark, meanwhile all the fuel above the nozzles is allowed to drain down into the ports, basically flooding the engine and making the next start hard if not impossible. Kill the engine with the fuel shutoff, and it'll restart immediately if the engine is warm. If it's cold, dibbling a little gas down each stack with a primer bottle will get it to light off and start pumping fuel as soon as it does. Good luck with it!

Exactly that's the same style of fueling used in the 80s to mid 90s in sprint cars the pill is like a jet fro the carb. And get a flow meter from Speedway motors to help set the air flow

Once you learn how mechanical fuel injection works, it's so simple, nozzles and a return pill that regulates the fuel to the barrel valve, the bigger the pill, the less fuel to the engine. Such an awesome race car.

I ran Hill-born injection system probably 15 years before you guys were born. I had it on my small block daily driver & yes I was always screwing with it. It took one jet when I got out in the morning to go to school then a different jet when I came out for lunch. More than likely the lunch jet would get it to start after school. If I went out at night it would take yet another jet. It also depended on weather. If it was raining one jet. If it was hot out yet another jet. Back in the day they were a pain in the Arse. They work well once you understand them. I had 2 other cars and my Harley. So when I was on a date. I had choice’s on what I wanted to drive.

I had a 65 Belvedere in the late 70's and early 80's, I managed to build a nice dual 4 barrel 440 for it, and tub the rear with a 9 inch on a teenagers budget, it had a pretty good reputation in my small midwestern town 30 miles east of Columbus , I was one of the few with engine out the hood and fat tires under the back on the street in that area, at least around where I lived, mine was dak blue and it looked so nice on the centerline wheels back then , so this car will be my favorite to win drag a drive... I often wonder why we dont see more of these unibody Mopar's in no prep, they were pretty darn light . mine had aluminum fenders, hood, deck lid, door hinge's and cross members, and it would wheelie so easy , it was almost effortless, ... anyway LOVE the car I will be rooting for ya , this thing brings back wild memories

So many thanks 😊 l know crap about the injection like you, BUT ! IT Sure sounds like it will eat and eat, then turn the fuel off. 😛🤞. Bob do you have a former stand up career? You had me in stitches! " just flushing the old oil out " "saw the shines and went back to work" Aiden? I once saw a young feller put 4-gallons into, tried to put four gallons of oil in a car, pull down the hose turn it to 4 and pull the trigger, magic! Only the dial was set to gallons, not quarts? It wasn't race oil, but it still hurt! 🤔🤑😉. Tom, thanks for all the great content 👍🏻. Your the best! Hey? Where is your truck? ✌🏻🧡🤘😉 🇨🇦.

The main gas supply goes in to the Barrell valve . The quick release pill holder that the spring and jet fell out of is your 1 point to richen or lean the system out , Bigger Pill / Jet the leaner it will be and smaller the richer it will be . The next by pass in the system with Tie wire is the Hi speed lean out which is set by Pressure and pill size . It also looks like it has a Low speed pill holder under red spark plug lead holder which is for making the motor snapier at low to just above idel which is why it it connects in line after the Hi speed .
@Burkdollspecial
@Burkdollspecial Жыл бұрын
On the mechanical injection. You set the rich or lean mixture from the return line. Bigger pill less fuel in the engine. Smaller pill more fuel in the engine. You can change base pressure with the amount of spring in the pill holder. It has a seal that keeps fuel from flowing until the spring pressure is reached. You can also tune the engine by changing the nozzle size at the injector. When changing nozzle sizes it will also change the fuel pressure. If it races on methanol it will need one nozzle and if it drives on the street on gas it will need a smaller nozzle and a different pill or jet. In my past I experience tune small loads of nitro can become hard to tune. Because you are tuning more on the methanol side of the fuel than you are on the nitro side. And large loads of nitro you don’t want to start it on the nitro. It can self ignite and blow the engine up

The fuel system is the same arrangment as my hillclimb car. Kinsler fuel systems are high volume low pressure. You have a main line from the pump to the fuel shutoff then to the barrel valve. The barrel valve controls the amount of fuel to the injectors. The second line coming out of the pump distribution block is the jet it regulates the pressure and the volume in the system after the jet returns to the tank. You have a third line off of the distibution block that goes to the hgh speed jet or a diaphram high speed lean out. Its all basic old school mechanical constant injection. Kinsler puts all the bypasses
@frankensteincreations4740
@frankensteincreations4740 Жыл бұрын
All those bypasses and returns hooked to the feeds and everything else, is to help it start better due to the fuel prime… why it cranks so fast and no need to squirt it… Bypassing the regulator is a little odd… You would have to draw it all out to understand the method to the madness… Thing is so cool cause it’s all so retro… 👍🤘

I ran a Hilborn injected HEMI A/Dragster for 10 years. Never once shut it off with the fuel shutoff. We always used the ignition to turn it off. Matter of fact except for tech at a divisional or Nat'l event, the fuel shutoff had a wrap of duct tape to hold it in the open position. When we started the car we held the throttle all the way open until the motor fired to bleed the air out of the nozzle lines. We also primed the injectors which you probably shouldn't have to do if the fuel pump is mounted below the fuel tank, which would gravity feed to the pump. Good luck!

Happy to see this car have a real life again instead of sitting somewhere dried out. Someone(?) should probably read up or watch videos of operating the injection and fuel tuning, or it will guaranteed give you an ulcer on drag n drive events. You know it will eventually require some fiddling and maintaining right in the middle of having fun.
