My guess is that the bird's hit-box is underneath it, and because Sips was jumping, it came out from the floor, allowing them to kill him.

Nah, it's either something to do with the shotgun or the SMG since the SMG reliably kills the birds while the shotgun can't at all.

Sips used to be verified back when he was called "Yogscast Sips", but then he rebranded to just "Sips", so he's no longer verified because he changed his name (or at least that's how I think it works).
