Danny, we've been getting hammered here in central/easterly Tennessee. Thunder storms with drenching rain are quite frequent, way way to much. My little creek overflowed more than once, spilling out all over the place. The rain is so bad it looks like a faucet in the sky was turned on. There doesn't appear to be a middle ground, either it's drought or a deluge.

Seems like it’s been raining in Knoxville every other day! Out of nowhere too-and heavy rains. I was just about to go cut the grass-saw the clouds coming in-and now it’s raining again. We had a storm come through last week, and had several fallen trees . I’ve been here since last August-and I’ve never seen a place that is constantly covered in gray clouds all day and night. Not complaining, but I’d like to see the sun and moon more often. And strangely, the few times the sky is clear, and I happen to go outside, I see at least two drones flying up above.

@@Mercedes65 Yes, I agree. Seems almost unnatural, more than likely is. When we finally get a blue sky, the high altitude aircraft appear and start spraying the long chem trails. I've taken numerous photos. The morning will start out beautiful, then the aircraft and then it later becomes hazy overcast.

I've been container gardening for 3 years, and found that with town recycle day in the park I salvaged tons of 3-4 gallon and many larger pots trays and tiny seed pots all for free. I set the 3-4 gallon landscape pots inside 4-5 gallon food grade white buckets collected from grocery bakeries to catch 1-2 inches of runoff when I water. I can produce lots of food but my plants are NEVER as big or as productive as local farm plants in the ground. Maybe I need to sew up some 25-50 gallon landscape fabric grow bags. I don't have a tractor and I no longer have the strong back for rototilling. I use some salvaged, some bought upright cinderblocks with free oak skids or flats laid on top to make a long low table for my container growing. I have recycled and refortified my container soil and it works very well. I started with three short truck beds full of mushroom compost I went and bought bulk from an organic farm, and unloaded myself to save money. Then got 3 free large dump trucks of mostly hard wood chips, no pine or very little, and after 3 years it has shrunk down to soil and rotting chips but is full of worms, and works very well 2-3" in the bottom of my containers with refortified mushroom compost mixed with regular compost for the growing soil. I do have to water my plants and keep close watch on keeping an inch or two of water in the catchment buckets the pots are set in. Next I invested in two 100 gal black plastic cattle troughs and with help installed a gutter with a downspout to one trough alongside a shed. I simply cut off a downspout on the house and put the other trough under it. In another spot I placed an old rusty galvanized 75 gallon trough under a spot I have regular gutter overflow. I dip water after rains and try to empty my troughs into more 5 gallon buckets which I lift onto my truck bed and drive to the garden. Having large salvaged plastic 55 gallon barrels up on the cinderblock skid tables is a great place to store rain catchment. I use those mosquito bits sparingly to handle the larva. These are ways to affordably start your mid size container garden and no I would never spend tons of money on brand new pots when so much can be collected for free from bulk trash, town recycling and requests you put online. Start calling around for your wood chips and mushroom compost asap and get them in place before winter. Save your money for seed, water collection and quality compost and I hope I've helped you see it's possible to do all of this bit by bit at lower cost.

So far since June, I believe we've had less than 5 days of rain. And it's mostly just been a little drippy. I have to say, I didn't mind at first because we get sick of all the rain. But I'm beginning to worry a bit now. I live in the mountains and I'm surrounded by lakes and rivers. They are shrinking. We do lose a little in late July and August, being our hottest months. But, we're also in extreme weather warnings at the moment. Let's come together and ask God for some relief and rain for you down South. We're still doing okay, but we're sure the driest I've seen in my 65 years in God's country. May God hear our prayers for you!

So far, out of all of our poultry and livestock, we’ve only lost a few chicks, a couple of pullets, and 2 laying hens- truly miraculous! (We went ahead and built a large air conditioned dog house for our dogs, including LGDs, that our layers frequently visit, so maybe that’s why we’ve only lost 2. Sounds ridiculous, I know… but our LGDs are THE most important animals on our farm- it takes way too long to start over when you lose one! Paying around $1/day to help them stay alive in this extreme heat is SO worth it to us!!!) What trying & dangerous times we are living in! Don’t let your working hands or praying knees get lazy, people!🙏

Good morning Danny and Wanda. I'm in South Central Kansas and we were in a horrible drought until the end of July. We had the worst wheat crops since the 1960's. Now we're getting rain several days a week. In July our pond was 8-10 feet lower than normal. We've been told that the pind hasn't ever went dry but that will be something we're going to have to see if it happens or not. I was going to put grapes in the ground in the spring but chose to put them in a huge pot. They're thriving where everything else died. I know August through the first of November is usually our rainy time of year but it started in mid July this year. The corn, soybeans and Milo are looking good but not sure if they'll be able to get in the field to cut it when it's time due to the amounts of rain we've gotten. It seems that these storms are tracking over the same areas when they come in. 9 days ago we had horrible storms hit my hometown. The county fair was in town and the fairs wheel toppled over. It had been a usual ride for over 30 years and was a total loss. Yesterday was the first day that the whole town had electric again. Several people had minor injuries that were camping at the fairgrounds. The city says it's going to take weeks for them to be able to get all the trees cleaned up. I will say I was very proud of our community, farmers brought their tractors to town as soon as the sun came up the day of the storm to clear the trees out of the roadways. I have spent the last week helping several childhood friends clean the trees off of their homes and cars. We received tree damage but nothing to our infrastructure and were extremely lucky. I know that storms will most likely be worse over the next few weeks. We go from over 190 degrees with the heat index to the 70's in less than 12 hours. The fluctuating temperatures are very strange. I'm sure winter will be wetter than normal this year as well as colder than normal. I wish we could send the rain to the areas that need it. Take care and be safe out in the heat. Much love from our family to your family 💞

Everything you said about the drought and heat is true down here in Louisana. I lost my garden over a month ago to the heat and drought and I gave up on watering with a hose. I haven't mowed grass (9 acres) in 3 weeks. Dead spots and dry patches everywhere. I'm still not wishing for a hurricane. Hurricane Ida devastated our area. But, praying God sends us rain soon. My cypress trees are drying up and I have 4 water oaks that are dead. I'm praying that everyone down South will get some relief from this.

Danny, I started growing in containers here in South Jersey, three years ago. I use 5 gallon containers for Tomatoes and mostly all of my vegetables, except for Cucumbers and Squash I use square storage containers. Excellent results I do say, using a mixture of compost and top soil for all. I use Espoma Garden Tone Organic Fertilizer, Great Value Powdered Liquid Fertilizer, Epsom Salts and a product I have used over 20 years now, Superthrive, a plant vitamin supplement. I grew Celebrity Tomatoes, Husky Hybrid Cherry tomatoes, Ninja Bell Hybrid Peppers, Black Beauty Eggplants, English Cucumbers and White Cucumbers….all hybrid as heirlooms do not produce for me. Container growing is better for no weeding, better on your lower back, and it all grows and produces just as good as ground growing.

I live in Indiana, for the past 2 years, we have planted our tomatoes in black buckets. We have drilled a few holes in sides & bottom, used good quality potting mix. We used an earthquake post hole digger & planted those buckets in ground... at ground level. We make our tomatoes cages out of wire concrete mesh. Those tomatoes go nuts! They grow well over 6ft tall if you don't top them. I wish I would have discovered this method sooner.

You are describing every summer here. I typically get no measureable rain from June through August with temps at over 100. I had high humidity through mid July and my garden was the best it has ever been. As soon as it turned dry with temps over 100, everything burned up. I have had a few plants that I'm hoping to keep alive until it cools down but it is not looking good. You are correct. It doesn't matter how much you water, very little will survive in these temps. Thank you for all your help and knowledge. This year one of my solutions is to incorporate shade cloth as much as possible and extend my fall and spring gardens with greenhouse plastic on my cattle panel tunnels.

We have a 2 in well on our 40 and if you run it too long, it will burn it up. I remember you showed your pump one time before and that's the same one we have and it just wouldn't be smart to push it to the point of catastrophic failure. We have a 4in well here at the house and we are watering excessively but I have had to shut it down for fear of overwhelming the wells capacity. I have a neighbor that has two wells just for his ponds and he is keeping up. 2000 was a bad year. I remember it well because that is the year we bought the north 40ac plot and it was blistering. I remember we were putting shingles on our cabin and we had to stop because the shingles were too melted under our feet. We couldn't walk on them. We couldn't burn anything because of fear of wildfire. This year is very similar to that year. Probably a bit worse. Not sure yet. The only upside is that we can get the tractors down in the swamp and we can clean up down there. It will turn around. Always does. Or..... This may be the end. Jk

This is just me rambling. Never been a farmer just loved among them. It's so good to hear your planning. So many times you hear peoples plans are to do the same things and expect a different result. Sorry this is a joke here where I live. Farmers they complain when it rains they complain when it doesn't. I've lived through two major droughts one of 18 months, one of three years. One year a storm hit the island and we were on two islands when it ended. Weather changes if it's similar for three years you're lucky. I believe you have to plan for the worst. What's the worst drought they had in the last hundred years? Build yourself a big water cistern? Reduce your pond evaporation ? Keyhole the banks, plant more trees, build a floating garden ? Bury big pots in the ground to water your summer garden. Try new things. Sorry worked with farmers. Had one farmer in area who did things different. When droughts or floods hit his farm always did well. So few of the other farmers copied him. It was heartbreaking. I luv ytube. So much information and you can see the results. Permaculture in Jordan, Japan and Africa. How they built the floating gardens in Mexico City and how other did it on a local scale. I get sad when I see this again people going through droughts and floods. Things are always worst when your the one living through it. Humanity has lived through way worse weather. Hope you get good rain before they predict. May your best harvest of your past, be the worst harvest of your future. May your plans succeed and your ideas keep flowing. All the best🙋🇭🇲

It's the same here in Georgia. Pop up showers that are hit or miss, temps are not as bad as yours but heat index up to or a little over 100. Humidity is unbearable. Our pond is now about 5 ft low. Any rain we do get just evaporates almost immediately. Garden is done and I'm not thinking about a fall planting with the current weather. But like you said we are in a rotation cycle, we've got a lesson to learn to work with the situation we have. I always gage our well water by our pond level. If the pond is low then we try to conserve our well water for our home use.

Hello Danny. You certainly are in a drought there. Glad you have the Danny Corn out now. I appreciate your wisdom, working with nature and knowledge of doing the container gardening in coming times. I'm already doing container gardening this year and their up off the ground. I've noticed I do have to put the soil all the way to the top as well. There sure is a challenge with the sweet potatoes even if get rain. It makes sense to put the corn or any grains in the freezer. I do so with mine including rice. I take heed to what you share and put action to what I need to do. Thank you for sharing and let God use you to inform us. 2023 is truly the year of solutions and a time to be inventive like no other. Rich blessings to you and Wanda and all you put your hands to.

Good morning Mr Danny and Miss Wanda. We aren’t quite as dry as y’all but I was just thinking back to when we first moved here in July of 2003. The next year we had such low water in the river (1-2 feet) that I had to pull out a map to prove to my step dad that we were indeed on the river and not on the nearby creek! Now, that fall we had Hurricane Ivan and then dry again for months. We had several springs pass without any “high water” on the river. So far here we have just begun to hit low stage on the river and we still get small storms every few days (sometimes just lightning and no rain) so we are blessed. I pray the rain comes to your properties soon. Blessings from the river swamp ❤

Wiggins still looks better than here in Fort Worth! I'm coming to the same conclusions that you are, dealing with heat and no rain. I've come up with some things that help: 1 - be highly selective at what you water; I've pulled up and literally crammed several plants into huge containers, attempting to grow out crops/grains. 2 - Use containers that you can line with plastic to hold water. If you have to use feedsacks, that's fine! Speaking of earth worms working down the soil - YEP! Fill another same-size container with the difference in soil drop, pull up the plant (roots should hold it together) and put it in that one, top off or tamp down around edges (if needed). 3 - White colored plastic and even bedsheets are beneficial! Cut them into long strips and drape them around black containers. If you have enough white sheets, you can literally staple them around a black plastic container as a liner (inside and out) to beat the sun beating down on them. 4 - plant in groups so it preserve evaporation (less spacing between rows). 5 - And put your planters against trees or other plants you want to save - any water that runs through will help the established trees' root system. Guess I need to start making some videos of my own to share some of this!

Same here in Lincoln County. Our pond is way low, grass is dying everywhere, leaves falling. And, it’s fairly breezy everyday ~ wildfire potential. We’re not being concerned about look’s either. The grass would really die if we were cutting. Hang on everybody!

I wish I could send you some of the rain we're getting in NW Florida. We get at least a good shower 3 times a week and the garden is looking good. I went to my property in McHenry, and it was HOT and dry. Luckily I have a stream and creek on my land. I am going to plant lots of fruit trees this fall so I hope we get the normal winter rainy season.

My dog ended up having 8 puppies. They are the cutest but there’s been so much mama drama. This too will pass. Thank you both.

That's a lot of puppies. Please consider getting her spayed.

@@kathymc234 Oh yes, we are. My husband wanted her to experience being a mother. She turned 2 this past July. We have penned her up twice when she came in heat. This time he married her to his sister’s dog and let them breed. She is enjoying motherhood now since she calmed down.

@@nancygrogan6082 Do you really think she is better off having that experience? So many animals being abused, abandoned, and euthanized. The world doesn't need or deserve more.

@@annmarie2964 It wasn’t my decision. It’s my husband’s dog. We take care of our animals and the puppies will only go to good homes. People who have cattle need cow dogs.

Good morning 😁 it’s been the same down here on the coast, no rain I believe it’s been a month maybe longer. It’s like stepping into a oven when we are outside. Praying for some relief for us all! The humidity is horrible here in Arkansas. We are having to dump our 22 pint dehumidifier every 6 hours. We haven’t had a good rain in so long but we don’t need it to rain now. We are trying to cut rice!! 😬

Danny, thanks for the info on the drought situation down south. I did not know that pollen will become sterile in extreme heat. I will pray that out Heavenly Father will share some of the bountiful rain we have on the northern border. Good luck in all this..

I had a friend whose Christmas wish to us a long time ago, was a prayer that God would grant us a good year, and if it wasn't, that He would give us the strength to overcome a bad one. If nothing else, there are lessons learned at times like this, humility, patience, perseverance, hope, etc.

I used to have small raised beds in Arizona. Forget anything growing at all without irrigation multiple times a day in July/August. Mulched. With shade cloth. Placed under the shade of a Mesquite tree. It was a lesson. Praying for a thorough rain for you.

When you build a pond that is completely dependent on watershed, you are vulnerable to drought. Back during the winter, I remember you having the lake flood and wash out a lot of property. I'm in south Georgia. We have had the same type of heat(heat index yesterday was 120 and it's currently 106). We have had nearly "normal" rainfall for the year. 41+ inches. My 2 acre pond hasn't dropped more than 6". I have friends in Texas who are experiencing the same weather you are seeing. We saw this a few years ago, and pine trees died all over the area. We have experienced some big thunderstorms in the past month. On July 21st, I lost 20 oak trees and sustained enough wind damage that my insurance is putting on a new roof.

Where I live in the Texas Hill Country, we have had 11.47 inches of rain this whole year, which is something terrible, by now we would have at least 40 inches of rain, but spring we didn't get much rain either. Yes we need something tropical to come into the gulf and push up here, Today will be day 72 with it being over 105 degrees, the index very high. Same heat advisories here too

I live in north central Missouri and we were also in a drought until July 29th! We've had around 6 inches of rain since then but still below normal for the year! We had a dry winter and a dry spring as well. I've watered my gardens starting in April through July! I will see what winter is before I start seeds next year because I wore myself out watering this year and it was expensive to do so!

Thanks Danny! I have made this a year of solutions as well because I'd your advice. I may take all of my citrus back inside this year, to insure they don't freeze. Last year my heater went off on my greenhouse and I almost lost them during 2 nights of hard freeze here on Lobg Island. Thank you as always!! Praying for rain for you both. 🙏🏼
