I would visit my Great Grandmother in West Virginia where she had only a hand pump in the house for water and no electricity. She lived that way all her life so it was not so hard for her but it would take some time for me to be able to work with no running water in the house. I think it's awesome how you can make this home work for you and your family. Be safe and Blessing to you.

My husbands family never had indoor plumbing in their house in Newfoundland until he was five years old , he's now 58 , and they heated the house with a wood stove , I admire anyone that can live this , trying to convince hubby to go off grid

I am enjoying your videos so much. I am Finnish, and very proud of that fact. My grandparents were born in Finland. Urbanus Andell was from Noormarku, and my grandmother was Anna Karppinen from Utajarvi. As a teenager, my mother took my sister and I to Finland to visit relatives. My mother also returned to Finland for Karppinen family reunion many years ago. My mother passed away, and I rarely hear Finnish spoken any longer. I remember seeing the relatives in the summer homes like yours. So beautiful. Your English is a lot better than my grandparents! I was raised in Minnesota, but I have lived in Colorado most of my life. Happy New Year and good luck with your channel!

During my early childhood, we lived in a house without running water. As others have commented, a wood cookstove provided the bulk of the heat and the kitchen was the warmest room. Our arrangements were more convenient than here: we had a hand pump at the sink that was connected to our (shallow) well. We also had a septic water/grey water drainage field.

Great to hear and nice to meet 🤗 Currently this week we are having coldest weathers in 20 years or something ❄in Finland. It is quite freezing and takes a lot of effort to keep our house and us warm. Best regards 🤗

I am so happy to have found your channel. I live in the United States and am an extreme oddity living without running water in my area. I also do not have a well so I catch all my water from rain in outside tanks and pump water in the summer to hold 800 gallons inside to stay thaw to get me through the winter. I am curious is it normal in your area to have electric but not running water and sewer? And thanks so much for the tip; I ordered the rechargeable sink pump for handwashing before I even finished the video; I wish I could think of a tip to share with you.

Thank you for the wonderful comment and it's nice to hear :) Yes, we are most probable oddity as well with this way of life 😆 In general, living off-grid is not common in Finland. Normally, houses have drainage, water pipes and electricity, etc. But this is how people lived in the countryside 50+ years ago, and luckily no one had had time to modernize and renovate this house to modern standards. The house had only electricity when we bought it. Self-reliance and the countryside attract many people these days, so that has its own appeal. And the current world situation has made us realize how dependent we are on all kinds of things. Sure, we could install pipes, drains and faucets in this house too, but we really don't want to! Glad to hear that the tips were helpful. And great, of course we are interested in tips :).So please 🤗 You can also find us on Instagram.

Thanks for commenting, simple live with simple solutions is what we like. We could have all the modern solutions to this house, if we’ve wanted - but it is our choice not to have them. We do understand this is not a lifestyle for everyone.
