Listening to Brian's goalie rant, I realize how old I am. 1971-72 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Bruins goalie split, look it up. I was watching. It's not new; it's retro.
@hockeytalk60846 ай бұрын
Even though Ullmark was the Bruins best player in this loss, it doesn’t excuse them from taking an unnecessary risk by not continuing to play Swayman after his game 1 performance. Swayman has never lost to Toronto. That alone takes up enough mental real estate to have a possible effect on the series lol. The defense always seems to perform differently in front of Swayman and there are other intangibles that you can’t really quantify in this regard. Momentum swings are definitely real in hockey… there was no reason to take Swayman out of the crease. Hopefully moving forward they will at least let performance and health dictate the goalie rotation, or else I could actually see this backfiring.

Go with the rotation in net until someone has a really bad game (or loses 2 in a row). Scott you are right.
@JasonBurke886 ай бұрын
Nope goalies aren’t used 2 playing back 2 back. Thats whole point of rotation. DONT DEVIATE
@hockeytalk60846 ай бұрын
@Jasonburke88 I just wanna know where we went from “hey if a guy is blatantly injured or has a poor performance we should definitely not hesitate to rotate them immediately” to literally platooning the goalies 50-50 in a playoff matchup regardless of whether or not they have a shout out. Because the latter will burn them. There’s no evidence that we should be doing that either, an 82 game season against 32 teams shouldn’t mean more than the fact Swayman has never even lost to Toronto and has posted better results against them all year. They are over thinking this badly imo
@JasonBurke886 ай бұрын
@@hockeytalk6084 agreed! I was actually being sarcastic because everyone who’s pro platoon keeps saying 50/50 because it’s what they r used 2. But then say change after a bad game. Would someone all of a sudden be used to carrying load now? There’s no consistency in people’s argument I’m w Bryan
@georgemcelroy30586 ай бұрын
@@JasonBurke88 I meant one goalie loses a game, then in his next start (not the next game, but HIS next start) he loses the game; the games are not back to back. If the other goalie is hot, THEN you disrupt the straight rotation and let the hot goalie start 2 in a row. If both goalies are playing well, as is the case now, we just rotate the goalies all the way to the Cup! If Swayman has a shutout next game (#3), it will be harder not to let him start Game #4. Ullmark played a good game in the loss (Game #2), so unless Swayman has a spectacular game in Game #3, I think we should absolutely keep to the rotation. This is more of an art than a science.
@JasonBurke886 ай бұрын
@@georgemcelroy3058 Got ya. But here’s my question then. In that scenario where 1 goalie keeps playing bad & forces them to break rotation.. Would you then all of a sudden not worry about riding the guy who has played well when he’s not used to playing consecutively? See what I mean? If they aren’t used to carrying the load early in the series than they still wouldn’t be used to it later no matter how they both play. It’s a silly point ppl point to but then neglect if they chose to modify the rotation later. We can move on sorry 😂

Monty's put the lines through the blender all regular season. Is that something he should be more willing to do, just to get those 2nd & 3rd lines going?

So I am a lifelong bruins fan from mass and I legitimately have been saying since last year season, swayman needs more games. He's simply better stays aside.. they don't measure how a goaltender please when their defense isn't absolutely right on point. Swimming can make the stops when his defense fails. Ullmark literally falls apart as soon as his defense does. I mean come on
@kahleigh6 ай бұрын
I don't think they should be fixed on one position... To either rotate or not. Just take it one game at a time. I was pro-rotation until Sways epic game 1. I would have started him for game 2, just on form, and then Ullmark for game 3. The top 6 is more of a factor than who's in net
@nickprincipi35756 ай бұрын
Not sure if Brian understands the difference between a good defensive performance and a bad defensive performance. Swayman was helped by the 5 in front of him. Ullmark wasn’t. Domi’s goal? That was 100% Lindholm and Carlo’s fault. They were beat. Ullmark made the save and then another. Domi buried the rebound. Matthews goal? McAvoy got beat and no goalie in the national hockey league could have stopped that breakaway. Last night was not on Ullmark. It was on the defense and the forwards not scoring.
@Rizzoo7476 ай бұрын
Are we watching same video? He said Ullmark was best player and there was a million reasons they lost Ullmark wasn’t one of them. Never blamed him for those goals. Your right tho D was way better for sway. Maybe why shouldn’t have changed things last game

Don't forget the Tavares goal where Shattenkirk could've blocked it and Ullmark had a pretty good look at it as well. But Shattenkirk didn't even attempt to block it.

My biggest disappointment from Game 2 was after getting marginally outplayed in the first period and vastly outplayed in the second, the Bruins could not outplay the Leafs in the third at home in the third.

You need to think of the mental game. Sway has OWNED the leafs all year, you play Ullmark and they get some mental juice getting to face a different guy. Just a thought ……

dude, what is going on with trent frederic? There have been about 4-5 times ive watched him in the offensive zone ..he gets the puck.....seems like he doesnt know what to do with it, like he is in a big mad rush to just get rid of having to be the puck carrier in the opp. zone pushing forward and its frustrating to watch, hurts cause i like him but wtf dude!

Huh I didn't pick up on that. Weird. Maybe he's nervous? Seems unlikely at this point. Hard to say. I do love Fredric's heart. I'm going to have to watch for this behavior in practice and bring it up to the other coaches.

People should not waste their breath on goaltending discussions and worry more about the coaching. wtf is maroon doing on the pp or even in the lineup? Why is Griz in the lineup? He brings nothing to the party. wtf was McAvoy doing on that gwg?

Scotts being such a hypocrite! Says to go w rotation because it’s what goalies r used to & is why team is successful… BUT THEN says open to changing based on performance after game 4. I’m sorry what? So now all of a sudden one goalie would be capable of playing consecutive games? Why aren’t they capable early in series?? What happened to the rest is why they’re so good? BS half take
