This video will show you a way of getting your audio to work properly in calls on Android phones that use the okay google feature. Works with most Android versions, including Nougat & Oreo and the latest release Android Pie 9.0
It seems that as the app monitors the mic of the phone, under some conditions it will override the normal behaviour of the mic so no one can hear you on the other end, or it will cause the call to drop or just no audio at all.
By disabling the okay google voice monitoring, everything goes back to normal and you can enjoy using your phone again.

Holy smokes I cannot thank you enough!! I've tried everything I can and I still CANNOT hear the caller but the caller CAN hear me. I have to put the call on speaker in order for me to hear the caller. I tried recording an audio and a video and my mic works fine. I discovered that this fix will work even if all of the sliders are turned off. I had fixed my 5.1.1 LG44 using your method before, but I encountered the same problem today. I followed your advice after I had toggled all of the sliders on and then turned them off as per your instructions. Phone works fine now. This software/firmware (Who knows?) error is inexcusable.

Delete Google assistant, this is the fix, if you retsart the phone and the mic starts recording again on video as well as calls. It's not a hardware issue it's an embedded software functionality issue, I have removed Google assistant on multiple pixels and have considered them back to perfect working condition, so your turning the functions off in the settings was a great step, but the software is still installed with the bugs lingering, delete the app. Unfortunately it's the best part of the phone, just the problem for most of us though. Get assistant off your pixels. Your welcome.

Yes Mark I totally agree, this half baked assistant crap is really starting to piss me off! But it does bring in the viewers :-) I use the assistant quiet a lot in the home in combination with my smart devices like Hive and Meross etc, so I need some of the functionality that the google home / google assistant offer. I tried Amazon's Alexa and that was okay on the phones, but the eco system was so tightly wedged up Amazon's omnipresent butt checks that it had to go. So we are stuck with "hey GOOOOOgle" until Microsoft sorts out Cortana (that will be a barrel or laughs) Anyway time to medicate. Thanks for the comments :-)

My fix was during the call I've muted and then unmuted the mic. It was purely empirical solution for me. I hope it will help others.

this is a good idea and does the same kind of thing by "reminding" the phone you are actually using the calling side of the hardware and to toggle the the mic off and back on. This should be helpful for others that are struggling to get a result. Thanks for the heads up

This also works > settings > accessibility > hearing > make sure that "turn off all sounds" is off > and do not disturb is off > then check settings > sounds and notifications to be sure that do not disturb is off > in sounds check that your sound mode is not in vibrate or silent and that volume is on. This was found in Google search.

sapphireblu76 This is the only fix, factory reset your phone. Back it up . Do not allow Google assistant to be installed. Unfortunately Google hasn't issued a statement, because they are having issues with the software compatibility between Google assistant and Google's pixel microphone software, I'm sorry your all having this issue and no one has given the proper advice , Google has the best chance for the best phone , I'm trying to assist customers the best I can.

+Khad din happy to help! It seems one of the apps has corrupted the sound profile and this method appears to fix it. It seems worse on Nougat 7.1.1 and 7.1.2 standard 7.0.0 seems less affected for some reason. Anyway thanks for your comments hope the fix lasts!

It seems your mic is faulty or disabled. Can you try making a call with the headset and mic to confirm the fault. You could also try using soundabout to receive route the audio to the mic incase the headphones socket is sticking. Try these options and let me know the outcome. Peace

The solution that worked for my problem on a moto g5. use an app called speaker dryer, it took a few tries but sound started to come out the speaker. its working now.

It is working for Mi A1. Previously not able to hear voice when receiving/making calls. Also noticed HD icon on my screen. Probably HD calling enabled. After changing the settings as mentioned in video, now am not seeing this HD logo on my screen. Thanks for your video.

Didn't work for me. My phone calls are low volume even with incall volume turned up all the way. I have a Samsung J7 Perx ugh.. I have to have the person on speaker phone or use headphones with a mic.

+Brittany if you have very low volume it is probably a hardware fault. Although if it is fine after a factory reset it might be worth seeing if any of the apps you install cause the problems by installing one app at a time?

This is the only fix, factory reset your phone. Back it up . Do not allow Google assistant to be installed. Unfortunately Google hasn't issued a statement, because they are having issues with the software compatibility between Google assistant and Google's pixel microphone software, I'm sorry your all having this issue and no one has given the proper advice , Google has the best chance for the best phone , I'm trying to assist customers the best I can.

changing mic is very technical, most of the technician can not replace it well, i discarded two sets due to mic issue which were damaged by technicians due to change of charging jack and were never corrected back, were so sad by this loss by mobile technicians

I have no sound output from the speakers. Output sound required audio-in jack, though causing people to have issues hearing me. I already had the Google voice settings disabled before this happened. No dropping. No water damage. Ineffective solution.

possible a damaged or faulty sound processing chip. Simple test is to perform a full factory reset and after rebooting if the sound still doesn't work in the default mode then there is most definitely a problem with the hardware. If it works and then fails after adding your user profile or apps then it is most likely a software conflict.
