Although I'm not doing a no-spend challenge, I am doing an "ethical-clothes-only" year. I'm not a big shopper, but I recently did some research and found that much of my closet comes from brands having negative environmental and social impacts. So, the clothes I buy this year have to either be 1) made local 2) thrifted or 3) made by ethical brands (Good on You is a great resource for this). It sounds tough, but I decided that if I'm not willing to put the effort into making sure my clothing fits into one of those categories, then I don't need to buy more clothes. Good luck to everyone on achieving your personal goals this year!

Me too!! I’ve recently found some eco conscious local brands and a few thrifting businesses that I choose to support. I noticed that it started to become a spending addiction for me as well so I’ve decided to just shop only when I have store credit from consigning from these stores. Takes care of both my clutter and spending issues. Haha

I‘m started that same challenge last year and it went so well, that I am never going back! All my clothes last year have been thrifted and by companies with high ethical and quality standards. I find that by buying quality over quantity, I have no need to buy new clothes often, which is a great side effect. Good luck with the challenge, I believe in you.

Less material clutter is less mental clutter. Material possession obsession is so unhealthy. I was stuck in this loop for years and am on my way out. After making the decision to eliminate synthetic material from my wardrobe (95%) I have my wool and cotton mostly comfortable duds. I’m keeping some dress clothes for weddings /funerals or the unknowns. Since I’m predominantly in a rural area there’s not a clic for conformity besides I do me pretty well ! I eliminated half of my closet goods and have room to organize the rest. I’m finding freedom !! Gonna keep going with the process as I have a ways to go . As a craftsman I choose to keep my tools and will bequeath excess in that area to encourage or inspire others to work with wood. Bigger payoff than to make a little from selling them. Kitchen and household items are being given to a free store for needy persons . I’m not a radical minimalist but I’m seeing a benefit from getting stuff out of here so I can get on with life as a focused person !!

Our city hosts an annual book swap (usually held in January) where you get a voucher for the number of books, CDs, DVDs, etc that you bring in. The city categorizes everything, and then you can come back for the book swap two days later and exchange your voucher for the same number (or less!) of similar products. So you declutter, don't pay, and hopefully come back with less than you dropped off.

When I was busy with my projects, I didn't have time to think about buying anything, and had no interest in buying anything (maybe I am too cheap). I live 2 miles away from my office, I walk to work everyday. I eat breakfast at home, bring my own lunch to my office, and brew my own coffee in my office. For the last 6 years I haven't carried any cash in my pocket. I only carry a phone with a credit card for emergence. I guess people like me are born to be a minimalist. The good thing is that when I need to buy something that is really necessary, I never bother to check my bank account balance or credit card balance. Yes, I am frugal, I am cheap, but I enjoy the sense of financial security.

I just (mostly successfully) finished a no spend month prompted by another KZbinr, so I have a few things I have to buy. But my goal is to buy the few items I know I need (the delayed gratification is great for crystallizing needs vs wants) in the first week of February and then go for the medium track the other three weeks. Unfortunately we had about $500 in unexpected vet bills that undid the financial good of our no spend January, so recuperating from that and hopefully getting a little bit ahead will be a major incentive. Thanks for the inspiration and great tips Marissa!

You could also do a no toiletry challenge to assist with no buy 😂 my laziness made me realize I don't need face wash or moisturizer, body wash or moisturizer, shampoo, conditioner, commercial deodorant, etc. I did start washing my hair again (but weekly instead of daily) after 15 months because hard water made it difficult to maintain, but otherwise it was awesome! I still occasionally used tinted sunscreen, mascara, lipstick or gloss, and makeup remover. I use water with a little apple cider vinegar as deodorant. Simple fragrance free bar soap for my hands. Sometimes laziness can be used advantageously. Good times! The hardest no buy for me would be no eating out. I don't need things (or I can easily wait to buy them), but I loooooove eating out.

My Why is to spend less on stuff I don‘t really need and be more intentional with the things I bring into my home. In addition, I would love to be able to wait for 30 days before buying things as I have the tendency to just buy everything when hyped and then wonder where all my money has gone 🙈 Do you have any tips for saving the things on (Amazon) wishlists? Do you delete the items if you don’t see a value in them anymore? I realized today that I keep hoarding on my wishlists and have issues deleting the items because I have taken the time to research them, so they just stay on the list forever (or until the shop doesn‘t offer them anymore).

I'm on another of many no spends. I pay my rent & utilities, purchase necessaries like T.P., vitamins, soap (don't use body wash). Of course, food is necessary and I have minimized this as much as possible. I'm car free and the bus is inexpensive. I have only a few medical co-pays for specialists I must see periodically (this year that's primarily cataract surgery and hospital ill. That's it for this year. I'm paying off my last $3000 dollars and then, after many years, I'll be debt free and able to save way more. I live on under $1500 a month and this has taken a long time. I'm sure I'm not the only elder in this situation. Don't give up! If I can do this, so can you. I think the biggest revelation was when I learned to say, "because I don't want it and "Because I don't want to". Those were big for me!

I don't have any debt at all, but I am retiring at age 67 in late March (2 months away). I am concerned, obviously, since my income will be less. I need to really pay attention to those expenditures that I don't really think about, because I will need to do more planning regarding spending money.

Hi there, I just found your channel this morning. I have never tried to do a no spend challenge...but I want to pay off my debt, save money and buy my own home. I want to be able to retire AND have my own home. These may be really tough goals to accomplish, being that I'm 55 and have only been at my current job for 7 1/2 years. I will not have much built up for retirement. If things don't change I may not be able to retire at all! I'm single, so I have to rely solely on my efforts and success with these goals. I'm SO GLAD I found you! I will be binge watching your channel to soak up everything I can. 🙏

So grateful to be able to live without a car! Never had one. Ghastly expenses involved in the car culture. This year not sending any gifts through the mail. Postage is killing!

Why? Because I need to use up what I already have. I’ve been so blessed with easy access to food, clothes and craft materials despite the *pandemic* and I need to be thankful and use them all up before purchasing more.

My why is my future with my boyfriend, no-spend challenge will help me save for that future. Just now starting my first budget binder and wanted to implement the no-spend challenge tracker that I learned about on a different KZbinrs page. However, that KZbinr didn't explain how to use the no-spend challenge tracker. After watching your video iv learned that I need to color it green/red. Since your video was only 10 minutes, i watched the entire thing to catch any other tips and tricks. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Next month is October, so, before November hits us with Thanksgiving/Black Friday and December hits us with Christmas, we want to make sure we are at a healthy place financially. We will also be trying for our second child starting in January! This next month will be a sort of test-run to see if we can successfully save the amount of money that we will most likely be spending after we add that second kiddo! (i.e. daycare, extra food, diapers, etc.) I am confident we can do it, and it will hopefully increase the excitement we feel toward welcoming a new family member by the end of next year (Lord willing!). Thank you for this challenge & walking us through it!

I always do a weekly financial detox by not going out nor shopping online! I try to finish all the food i have before going to buy more , when i buy something to wear I choose a good brand not the cheapest to avoid buying more

I was doing so good, 7 days straight and avoided some temptations but then a gf was selling a vintage game I remember playing as a kid and I wanted to buy it and share it with my family 💗 But I also liked that I was helping out her vintage/antique business she runs 💗 so I got it and now I'm back on track to no spending. We're doing a no spend challenge to save for our trip to Disneyland, it'll be our kids first time there 💗

I have an eat out addiction during lunch at work. Its $14 for a drink and a meal now adays!! So yesterday I decided to challenge myself to a Gatorade only day. I slipped up at the end by buying a soda but I survived. Im doing the same thing today. I think this is going to be a new normal for me. If I can save $10 out of $14 every day then its a success.

My why is when I moved from the West Coast to the Midwest. Living on the West Coast wrecked my finances. I have had to redo my budget almost weekly to figure things out and pay off debt. Honestly it is a huge struggle.

Curious. Could you explain more? Weekly refiguring? I'm currently living on the west coast, but will be moving once my teens graduate high school. It's getting ridiculous where we're at. I'm a little worried to move because of the unknowns.

The fun of a challenge in an area that I believe I have under control. It is a personal test! It’s always a good idea to really see how you are doing. Enjoyed your video! ❤️
