If you've got no story ideas, or you've got writers block, I discovered an easy process that helps me come up with story ideas.
This works for any length of stories and is just a simple kickstart to your creative process.
There's nothing worse than the itch to write something, but nothing to write. Hopefully this process can help you come up with a lot of new story ideas.

My only problem with the music/video method is that I end up falling down the bottomless rabbit hole of trying to find the "perfect” combination. As a visually-oriented thinker, though, when it’s right it’s the absolute best method for me. I subbed because I like your thinking. All the best in your writing.

That can definitely be an issue, you're right. Finding a concept for a process like this is all good and well, but then if you start trying to perfect that process (as I often do too) you can lose the value of it. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing, I appreciate it!

I said it once and i'll say it again. People need to watch your videos. You are so inspirational, so motivational and help people, like myself, who want to become writers. While this video was short, it was really enjoyable to watch. The way you combined the warm coloured sky with the forest, as well as the message regarding the afterlife, then writing a short story revolving around a forest fire and the death of someone the protagonist cared about, that was genius and the story was very short but was really appealing to read and listen to. I haven't done any work on my own personal story for a few months as I've lost the motivation for it. It felt like a chore to get on with it as I had a few scenes planned out in my head but they were all in the second and third act. However, I couldn't get there without the first scene and that's why I stopped working for months, because I didn't know how to make the first scene appealing but, not as exciting as later scenes (Since the story starts off in a Primary School in a village called Dullwick: Dull as in boring and Wick is a british suffix of a village surrounded by farmland). The setting later in the story is a new country filled with people who were gifted with superpowers and the landscape from the cities to the countryside was far more magnificent than the small, bland village that the story starts off in (From that transition from Bland village to Magnificent superhero country, you can kinda see why I don't want to write the first scene since I have so many more exciting scenes later in the story) Apologies for the rambling. The point I'm trying to make is that I haven't worked on my story planning for months but, your videos inspire me to keep going and moving forward with it

Thank you ❤ I appreciate the support a lot. I've had a few nasty comments this week but ones like this really offset those and help me remember why I make videos in the first place. I definitely know the feeling of motivation going up and down (mainly down) on a long term project. Excitement by nature is difficult to keep long-term. I try to remind myself that the way I felt at the beginning of the story is still valid though. Maybe I don't feel too enthusiastic half way through, but if the idea and the story hasn't changed since the beginning when I was so excited about it, then it still has all those great things that made me excited! It's me that's changed, not the story! It doesn't always work, but sometimes that can help me get back on the horse 🙂

@@KierenWestwoodWriting You've been getting nasty comments? How can that be? You've been making amazing content regarding writing that no one else i've seen has made. Talking about the imagination in writing, inspirational quotes from famous writers and even showing examples of little techniques for people to understand what you are referring to. I'm not sure why you of all people would get nasty comments. As for remembering how I felt at the beginning of this project, I always think about it whenever I think about writing/planning. I always remember how the person who was helping me get story writing lessons told me that she loved how much I was smiling when she said I would get that help with it. That moment is very important to me as it shows how passionate I am with this. While the writing isn't fun (at the moment due to my mental health issues) I cannot deny the thrill of coming up with ideas has been a joy

Thought I would have a go at this one. Here is what I came up with. Hope you like it. Tears from my funeral taking place under the large willow tree start fading away slowly as does the bright white light. I walk up the hill from our family home to our little log cabin. Carved into the deck are our initials and the year we declared our love for one another. A warmth wraps around me as I reach for the handle and push the door open. Sitting there on the rug in-front of the fire. I see your beaming smile and your tricky mood changing green eyes staring, inviting me to come inside. I am now whole again.

Thank you so much for sharing this. This resonates with me in a way I cannot yet put into words. For most of my life I have felt like this, only music & beautiful photographs or videos can really fully inspire me to write. The evoke a story almost instantly. Why didn't my teachers tell us this .... oh well. Times change, and that's a good thing.

Great video, Keiren. I've had similar inspiration to write from after seeing pictures or videos, or sometimes even dreams. Oftentimes, text prompts won't do it for me unless I have visuals in mind like you said. I love the drone video idea. I'm gonna have to try it!

I can't believe it took me so long to start actively engaging with this process instead of just passively having it happen to me. It's absolutely possible to give your inspiration a kick-start and I'm glad the same method works for you 😊 Yeah the monster truck thing is an old joke from a past video (i forget which one) but I enjoy the silliness too 😃
