The Rottweiler if I am not mistaken is a descendant of the Roman cattle dogs that were bred with local dogs in Rottweil, Germany. Hence the name Rottweiler.

I have always associated the difference of the secondary color being that the more darker brownish part of their coats as german Rott and lighter brown as American Rottweiler. My preference in Rottweilers are the darker sec coat ones.

AKC would beg to differ. There are significant differences. Are French Bulldogs the same as the English? You're right geographical location isn't as significant, but the German is closely related to the Roman breed and hasn't been influenced by cross breeding like the American.

I have had American and German, it is all about good breeding. I bought a show quality German Rottweiler, her parents are show dogs that were imported from Germany. The quality Rottweiler is all about the breeding. My Rottie is beautiful, I never had a Rottie as beautiful and so smart as my 11 week old pup. I can show her, but I am not, she is my companion. My breeder does DNA testing and OFA hips, knees, and elbows. He breeds for intelligence and health. Again it is about the bloodline, good breeding of the Rottweiler.

Your Rottweilers look great! They are obviously well bred. I think having confidence in the breeder is most important. You’re willing to show your kennel, the sires and bitches and the pups. You also show what you are feeding your dogs Plus it appears you try to match prospective owners with the dog characteristics they are looking for and give them the opportunity to come see the pup they are buying! Another thing: I think your waiting list is fine because it gives you time to breed the dogs for the right owner. If you have or can get Vet certification and paperwork showing the parentage of your pups what more can anyone ask of you?😊

I served a tour in Germany in the late 90's. Never saw a skinny or underdeveloped Rottweiler like you described. Never saw a German Shepherd under 100lbs either. I've noticed in the states Rottweilers have these pencil snouts. They don't even look like the mastiff bread they used to in the 70's/80's. Thank the AKC for that... I know you're a Vet as well and seen things for yourself so I'll have to agree to disagree.

Good job on the video, a bit long though but I enjoyed the experience you shared so thank you. Any person with enough knowledge should know already what a rottweiler is and where did it come from and its biography. In my opinion, a great dog is a dog well taken care of, well trained, well fed and loved. So if you are a responsible owner who gives your rottie all the needs, every dog will become a champ regardless of who his parents are, whether they are champs or just regular rotties. My rottweiler is 6 months young and each time anyone sees him their comment is that it's becoming more beautiful and better looking than before and my answer is always that it's because he is a happy dog who is well taken care of. With every dog comes great responsibility so if you are not up to it just pls do the world a favor and DONT GET A DOG.

He better check with the ADRK they have their own breed and once you dock their tails and ears they can't be considered a German rock they have their own special requirements to be considered a German rock which they put into effect in 1999 . I have an amazing Shortweiler. He is the best,his temperament and intelligence and work ethic is outstanding. I have a 7 year old boy,if anyone does anything to my son one bit out of the ordinary he sets them straight. He is a great boy. He watches out for everyone in our home. He is not overly aggressive but I know he would be ready to protect us with everything in his big beautiful heart and with great tenacity, strength and resolve if there ever really was a threat. Once you have a well bred Rottweiler you will never want another breed of dog. I have had so many such as Great Danes,German Shepherds,Boxers etc I only want one breed for the rest of my life now and that breed is the Rottweiler. Best of the best without even a shadow of a doubt in my mind.

Adrk rotty is real German rotty and they have massive drive and energy,my friends have hunting dogs and and after seeing him they wanted to breed their dogs with him. The German adrk dogs are used for hunting and big boar catch games in china ,the boars are huge ,where a doggo struggles the rotty destroy the big boar,boar is three times bigger than the dog.

Your exactly right ..people need to do the research on pedigrees...I spent hours on looking at pedigrees and health before I bought my latest puppy ..even then your not guaranteed..my pup has german and ukraine lines ..but he was born in america ..he's American rott ..so many people come up to us and say I have or had a German rott ..I just ask them ...what part of Germany do they come from ..the German rott is just a sales pitch when not born in Germany

Thanks Tony. I think it all boils down to what you said at the end. Most of us were previously taught that if you had a big-headed, big body dog, it was a German Rottweiler. We need to re-program and re-educate ourselves. The internet can be a place of great information, but you have to be careful. You have to make sure you information is coming from a reliable source like you said. For the American Kennels Club states there are more than 340 different dog "BREEDS" throughout the world. They recognize 197 "BREEDS", which the Rottweiler "BREED" is one. Not the German Rottweiler nor the American Rottweiler but, the plain old simple Rottweiler "BREED". And like you said the Rottweiler "BREED" is a decedent of the Mastiff "BREED" of the Roman legions. How about I put it this way. Say tomorrow we are visited by beings from Mars, what would they be called Martians and we would be Earhlings. Or would we be North American Earthlings or United States Earthlings or Texas Earthlings and so on. Our "BREED" would be that of Earthling and nothing based on where we were born. Just my 2cent 😊. Keep teaching the masses. We all want to learn.

You got it wrong. It's about adrk pedigree its german & Original Standard. Also Rottweiler is originated and named after a city in Germany. Only the Molosian Bloodline wich is part of Rottweiler breeding, and others like cane corso, presa canario and so on originated in Rome. Greetings from Germany. At the end of the day it does not mean a adrk Rottweiler will be superior to a akc and otherwise. But for my experience American kennels tend to breed oversized bad tempered dogs, serbian bloodlines for shorter muzzle, and both is contraproductive for working ability and Temperament.

HEY!! you got it right!! The ADRK has a set the standards for a quality Rottweiler! The ADRK has a breed Warden. The AKC has nothing like the ADRK when it comes to the true test of producing a REAL Rottweiler. If you two dogs you can make AKC pups its that simple. No one is checking the quality. Can you get a quality Rottweiler from a AKC breeder absolutely. You have to make sure the parents are at least health certified (Min- hips, elbows, heart, JLPP). Now German Shepherds have 2 distinctive lines show and working. Rottweilers are soon to go that direction too. Why? Because some breeders are not breeding for the true temperament. You want a "Big 'Ol Boy? " or a "Teddy Bear?" A big couch potato is not gonna live as long as athletic dog! You will have health issues if the dog is overweight just like people. Again do your research if you truly want what a Rottweiler was created to be. I am saying this because I feel like the true Rottweiler is getting watered down to create Black and Tan labs or retrievers. I would love to see Tony make a video of his dog doing a courage test.
