Non-stop barking drives me nuts! I feel for this guy!!! I have a pit bull who doesn't like people walking in front of the house, so she will stand at the window and bark. She is a good girl and very easy to train, so I taught her 'inside voice". When I give her the command, she goes from barking loud to barking under her breath When she just can't contain herself, she will grumble all the way up the stairs to try and get away with barking upstairs. She is funny, If I have to give the command again she usually keeps it down, but if she knows she "has to" bark, sometimes she will put herself in her kennel. Almost like putting herself in time out.

The main issue is people insisting on buying working breeds that need jobs, purpose and ways to release their energy, but their own family lifestyle just isn't able to provide what is needed. People should be picking the breed of their potential dog based on how it will fit into the family's energy levels and lifestyle, instead of just going with what they think is most cool.

@@nessie6899 Pretty wolf looking brand. It's absurd how many people take dogs and just pets in general because they find it cool to own it. They don't think of the damage neglect does. So many little breeds and hyperactive/work breed need special treatment, hells, even labradors which are super family friendly compared to majority aren't that easy. Really, people just get puppies for the looks, and when they realize it's A LOT OF WORK, they either give up on the dog or abuse it cause they have no idea what it means to educate a dog. They treat it like an object to be playful for the 5% of the time when they decide they want to have fun, and quiet the 95% rest. Worst is that they usually treat the kids the same way when they have some, or let the kids have their way with it and it completely fucks the animal up.

@@hotbread1004and someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I’d definitely say this is anxiety induced panting based on “tail up curiosity”. He’s also a male against a female. As little puppies with 0 training whatsoever, males often give up to females just to let them win. They know they’re stronger, but their instinct is to be gentlemen. They can be aggressive male to male, with no training, and females can aggressive towards males, but a male dog would not wanna hurt a female, ever. Correct? Yes. Attack? Nooo, never. I was out with my male GS on a beach, lots of dogs there. One in particular, a female, was almost psychotic. She was a Belgian shepherd, she tried attacking my dog when he was in reach. My dog who has 0 issues claiming a territory and showing dominance was sooo confused. He didn’t even bark, he jumped out and looked at her with pure confusion- what do I do? I really wish that there was better education around working dogs. We have all these creatures who were, for thousands of years, born to do specific things and now that all that is forgotten they're expected to just laze around the house like a toy and anything else is seen as unwanted behavior when the owner is usually the one who didn't bother thinking about the needs of the animal they got. Not saying that's the specific situation here, but once she's calmed somewhat she definitely needs something to focus on.

it's very interesting that she's treating Prince like a sheep lol Once Joel pointed out her being wired for work but "not knowing what to work for" it became really clear. She's just treating everything and everyone, especially the other dogs walking and running around her, like a herd of sheep, barking to get everyone in place and obsessively watching a following some object of her attention but not getting any sense of purpose or completion out of these engrained behaviours in her, for these subconscious tasks, seems like. I'm no dog expert, so I could be completely wrong, but that's what it looked like. Very fascinating. Makes me think how so many breeds are potentially rly ill-fitted to be just random home pets for random families , unless the owners really have the whole environment for them that's appropriate to their dog's needs and special patters
@alexandriarae1508

Exactly! She has a deep instinct to work and herd that has now become an obsession since she wasn't given the proper outlet, training or (biggest issue) boundaries around what she naturally wants to do - no one is cooperating and following her directions, it's driving her nuts, poor girl! I have a friend who's family breeds and trains herding dogs, they had one that was born with some kind of heart defect so he couldn't safely do the training to become a "real" stock dog; they tried to keep him happy and raise him in the home, keeping him separate and away from the livestock, etc. but as you can guess...he quickly became obsessive and controlling of everyone's movements, nipping ankles, and BARKING like a lunatic (if you watch herding teams, while the dogs are working a lot of them bark constantly, especially super high energy ones), just like this girl. Very sad, he didn't know what to do with himself or appropriately express his natural instincts...but thankfully its turned out alright for him! He went to live with the owner of a rescue for pregnant dogs that come from Mexico (I help deliver pups when they get a mama with special needs/disability that makes it a high-risk birth, so I get to see him those times), my friend had visited the rescue and the dog was with her that day and somehow or another it was figured out that he LOVES puppies, his demeanor completely changed and he was so gentle and attentive that even the moms didn't mind him around the pups, and he fell in love with the woman who owns the place - so she agreed to take him in and he immediately found his 'job' as a (we call it) Special Forces Puppy Nanny, the last word in high-security puppy care.. he takes his job very seriously 😂 he gets to herd and guard pups 24hrs a day, he's super happy doing what he was born to do just on a muuuch smaller scale from livestock😅. Shows what can happen when we fulfill a dog's natural needs!!

This is super duper common with GSDs. NOt all of them but many seem to need a job of some kind and if they don't receive expectations and "orders" from the humans they'll find something to do on their own. I've made everything my GSD does into a "job" by treating all desirable behavior as his "duty", including settling down and relaxing. He's extremely good at adapting to new situations because I reinforced "adapting to new situations" as a job too lol

That's crazy and what patience Prince has. We had two Border Collies and when one passed away, the other one stopped barking (she never really barked much to begin with but would join in when our other dog barked). She went almost a year before we heard a peep out of her. She barked because we left her outside too long and she wanted back in (and it was only one quick bark). I think in the remaining eight years of her life, she barked less than 20 times. Someone would ring our doorbell and she would get up and just stare at the door until we answered it. Now we have two puppies who whine and bark all of the time which is driving us bonkers.

Once again, we've bred this into these dogs and it is our job to anticipate this behaviour is going to come out and we need to teach the dog the difference between a herd animal and a playmate!

Zak George is calling the cops! Love the video. My GSD pup was corrected by two older GSDs and there’s been such an awesome change with him. He wasn’t this wild but it was a great teachable moment for sure.

Brilliant highlight of the differences in high prey drive breed like Shepherds and fun goofy guys like Prince. They all love to run but high drive dogs need to learn to stop and enjoy without needing to control everything and everyone. It's hard work sometimes. Prince taught this girl a great lesson. Well done. Hopefully with your insights her training makes a big difference.

Looks like she just needed another dog to show her the hyper energy and noise wasnt okay. At that point her mad energy and fixation broke and she discovered a new mode she can work in, a little calmer. Excellent to watch this in real time, and your socialisation exercises were fascinating too! You guys are great.

This is an amazing video. Prince's correction was so accurate. The GSD seemed to undrestand immedieately that her behaviour was not appropriate . And after that, I found that Joel also provided appropriate and effective manners toward the GSD.

I call an accidental bite, with an excited, barking, non aggressive crazy dog… “OOPS! “Caught a tooth”. “It’s Not a bite”… but still not ok. Joel is my favorite! Refer his videos to everyone (when appropriate) if we witness behavioral issues with “owners”… heehee… And I always tell people Joel’s partner is a beautiful Doberman named “Prince”. When I help people out (I’m not a trainer, but just like to help out) I use the techniques I’ve learned from Joel and Prince… My Doberman Ziggy is a pretty special partner too. Thanks Joel and Prince 🐕🙏👍

I am honestly training myself a "Prince" out of my next dog mostly because of these videos. I've dedicated my life to giving challenging dogs a second chance, but choosing that one puppy to assist in that will be so much more effective than just doing it alone. I believe I'll be able to help loads more dogs this way.
@krystal6137
@krystal6137 6 ай бұрын
There is always a little bit of a gamble when getting a puppy because its personality isn’t fully formed. You might have better odds selecting a dog that already displays the traits that you are looking for, it could even be a young dog i just think it’s risky getting an 8week old animal with a specific intention and is worth thinking about an old pup/dog.
@bslizardette4669
@bslizardette4669 6 ай бұрын
@@krystal6137 You can definitely see the basic temperament even in a puppy, I also have selected a breed with generally good social tendencies with other dogs. I will ask for a puppy with confident behavior because social skills can be taught, but basic temperament is set. I will also be asking for the breeders' help with choosing the right puppy. I have three breeders I will be contacting with details of what I'm looking the puppy for. I am not a puppy person, so I considered getting a 1-3 years old dog, but I want to maximize the use of the crucial socialization period. There's very few adult dogs available where I live that aren't available for one of the typical reasons for rehoming (but mostly behavioral issues - which is why I'm on this path). Also, it would honestly be nice to, for once, have a dog that I trained from the beginning and not patch up on top of other people's training. Last time I had a dog with fully-me training was when I was a kid.

I once had a dog who barked a lot. She had no control over it. I read a tip to first train the dog to bark on command then they can learn to stop barking. Not that she really ever stopped but she tried and her barking turned into a hiccups sound. It’s not the case with that dog though.
