Regarding hating Stone Vigil (Hard) and the turtle boss: it's not because it's a difficult boss or that it's hard to understand that I think the dungeon and that fight are hated by so many (including myself). It takes away so much of the sense of control you usually get from your job's toolkit, and this is especially true for tanks. Not just the turtle, but the entire dungeon. The first boss loves to wander the whole arena (and to do the mechs properly, the tank should *not* grab the adds, which goes against all common sense in dungeons), the final boss straight up ignores emnity altogether, and the mob pulls are broken up by things like Big Bertha cannons and those casters that immediately cast the long transformation spell instead of running after the tank. That dungeon is just downright awful.
@CaetsuChaijiCh5 ай бұрын
That makes very good sense! I suppose I just hear about the turtle complaints so much I focused on that. But your summary makes it make a lot more sense!
@serker31385 ай бұрын
Nope. This dungeon simply have too many uncommon mechanics. For example it is much easier to stun and kill those casters ASAP, because otherwise they will heal to full and become large threat to tank. And you could already meet them in Snowcloak.
@41F5 ай бұрын
@@serker3138 The problem isn't that they're new mechanics or that they're hard to solve. The problem is that the entire dungeon seems to be filled with mechanics that don't reward players for using their jobs the way they normally would.

Hullbreaker is an odd one. There are two tentacles per platform that must be dealt with, and then two arms that come after. *ideally* you just go from platform to platform in order, however the green marker dropping a time bomb tornado makes things a little complicated. Plus the arms can randomly just grab anyone and throw them elsewhere. Which can be the tank and wastes so much time because those arms will follow the tank to the next platform. Also DPS will almost never remember to LB the final arm :')

About the fun fact: I love mechanics in old dungeons like this, sadly they do not use them since HW. Lone exception being the last pack trick in Qitana Ravel, but I do not think they made it by design. My favorite is Sunken Temple of Qarn. It is difficult to interrupt the Doom-inflicting ability of his with stun, because cast time is very short, but if you do - it will break the encounter and stop him from using Doom for rest of the fight, making the fight that much easier. Also stun Obliterate from second boss, your healer will thank you. Also stun the last boss in Hard version when he start chasing someone, because it is the only way to solve that mechanic without losing a team member. Also feel free to stun other bosses in other old dungeons tactically, it is useful. Also you can WALK past certain packs in Sunken Temple of Qarn without attracting them, but this is less useful because someone else won't do that anyway xD As for Stone Vigil - tank can evade tank busters from first and last bosses by walking through the boss right after cast begins, taking no damage. Hard to pull off too, my advice is to be as close to the boss' hitbox center as possible and just running forward when you see the boss cast bar.
@Whosimon5 ай бұрын
The qarn boss will absolutely cast doom a second time if interrupted, its just rng how fast he tries again.
@CaetsuChaijiCh5 ай бұрын
The idea of walking past packs also becomes a truly lost art at higher levels because in some dungeons, you CAN run past, but the door won't open so no point! 😅 An example being the big wide open space before the final boss in the burn!

A Samurai just standing. I just recently had a similar experience in normal raid roulette. P10. I had a SCH and SGE as healers, and a couple of first timers. We wiped on the first pull, and on the second pull, the SCH just stood there doing absolutely NOTHING! And even on the first pull the SCH did very poorly (didn't even have the fairy on). I don't know if he just went afk, or if he was trolling, but we practically had only the SGE as a healer. Eventually, the SCH was ejected for 10 mins of inactivity, and we got WHM to finish the duty. I blacklisted the SCH right away. I'm not risking that a second time. BTW, I loved the Heinz Doofenshmirtz impression.

I'm glad to hear that! It is a very different way to learn but I suppose seeing the "real combat" perspective can help a ton! That is an interesting suggestion! I remember ages ago that I had a discussion with someone who already had 2000 mentor roulettes done, who claimed mch was one of the best options, due to their consistent dps at different levels 😅 although my perspective was that you are so so helpless in terms of utility and healing! 😅
@jin117799335 ай бұрын
@@CaetsuChaijiCh Huh, that is an interesting take from them, I'd definitely assume being unable to help with healing or raising would be a distinct disadvantage, though I suppose the shorter kill times may compensate for *some* deficiencies. I'm currently returning to the game after having left after EW MSQ 2 years ago, Anam shaking off the rust while leveling all classes to 90 in preparation for DT. Its definitely given me a better perspective on different classes, though it's also easy to forget some things when you are switching between all 5 roles regularly.

Honestly I've always found it a lot more fulfilling to be tanking a duty that just keeps wiping rather than healing. Being on tank means I'm almost always one of the last people alive (along with the other tank if there is one) and it often gives me the chance to show everyone mechanics and explain them while they're on the ground before a stack or buster gets me.

Yeah, that's what I notice with this whole mentor thing. Roles can be vastly complicated to consider especially when playing a healer or tank who have more complicated roles to teach. On one hand, it's nice to be able to reliably get through something, but if you're carrying, that primarily can end up teaching the idea that other players may not be as responsible for the success. Healer is a role that naturally draws critique BECAUSE it has so much potential to carry. A healer should know how to get the most out of that, but sometimes that's a bit more complicated.
