No Use for a Name (sometimes abbreviated NUFAN or No Use) was a punk rock band from San Jose, California, United States formed in 1987 by Chris Dodge, Steve Papoutsis, Rory Koff and John Meyer. The band's sound evolved considerably through its career, taking on a much lighter brand of melodic punk as the years passed and Tony Sly replaced Meyer on vocals in 1989. After frontman Sly's death on July 31, 2012, the remaining members chose to disband.

this set is incredible! I’ve seen no use and/or Tony some handful of times in the late 90s and thru the 2000s in the states and he was such a tremendous loss to punk rock and the community as a whole. His presence in his performances were always exceptionally impressive and for lack of a better word to describe it just straight up fucking rad (as this video clearly demonstrates)…and his creativity and genuine talent at his knack for songwriting undeniably exceeded expectation every time in every way, the way his career evolved was beautiful from the jump all up until tonys untimely end. His presence in his body of work commanded my ear and left me in awe and so fucking inspired as a kid coming up as a musician and songwriter. my gratitude for his existence will forever be cherished with great fondness as I continue to find solace in the art he left behind in his songs and melodies for us to revisit and get lost in. Tony’s voice and lyrics helped guide me in my adolescence and also throughout rough times and good as life has gone on and I look forward to that trend carrying on always. Goddamn I truly miss Tony sly! I feel so lucky to have been alive in this world at a time to be a recipient of Tony’s reach and influence. Good deal on that one, in a life that’s filled with more tough breaks than thank goodnesses. Long live NUFAN and NEVER FORGET TONY SLY!

It is hard to believe that this show was almost 13 years ago. Frig, they were SO good. Even if you aren't a fan of the band or the genre, you can't deny that these songs are brilliant. Even my gf, who is a classically trained musician and overall 'music snob' will admit that NUFAN songs are wonderful examples of amazing songwriting. It sucks that they ended and how they ended.
