George was always called the "quiet Beatle." He just kind of stayed in the background, occasionally singing a song. Once the Beatles broke up, his true talent started to show.

A common misnomer is that George Harrison wrote "Got My Mind Set on You." Understandable because generally George wrote all of his recorded songs with some exceptions. This was a song he knew from the old days he liked, choose to record it. they released it as a single and it went to #1. Wikipedia: "Got My Mind Set On You” was ex-Beatle George Harrison's first hit single in five years, peaking at Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1988. It reached Number Two on the U.K. chart. The song was written by a former mailman named Rudy Clark and first recorded in 1962 by American singer James Ray.

There’s a very good reason why this doesn’t sound like a typical George Harrison song. It’s not a George Harrison song! This is George’s cover of a Rudy Clark tune first recorded in 1962 by James Ray under the title “I’ve Got My Mind Set On You.”

Hello!!! George did have a great sense of humor. As a matter of fact, one Beatles myth is that when the group first auditioned for George Martin (their future producer, and enabler of their creativity),George had a lot of negative feedback for them. But he was a lovely man, and told them that if they "didn't like anything" they could tell him. George replied "well, I don"t like your tie". The young Beatles held their breath, expecting to be tossed out of the studio. George (first Harrison, then Martin) smiled, then burst out laughing. The record deal was sealed, really because of a wisecrack. Thanks for reading!

George's "other group" (as he called it), The Traveling Wilbury's, is worth a listen. Don't know if you've reacted to them before? A real supergroup with George, Jeff Lynne (ELO), Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and Jim Keltner on drums. "End of the Line" and "Handle with Care" very popular.

George did a nostalgic song looking back on his time in the Beatles and I love it. It's called "When We Was Fab". He also did a beautiful tribute to the memory of John Lennon: "All Those Years Ago". Perhaps the most well-known song he's written was released while he was still a Beatle: "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". It features a nice lead solo by George's friend Eric Clapton.

George had his roots in the rock and roll of the fifties; they all did. Eventually you feel that urge to return to your roots. But I think you need to hear more early Beatles to get a sense of where they were coming from.
@thomastimlin1724
@thomastimlin1724 2 жыл бұрын
absolutely. Listening to the Beatles at random is misleading and out of sync. Too many dismiss their early recordings but do not understand how and why it evolved. they could only kick down the door with the fun, simpler love songs and rock because it was of the time they were coming from. To dismiss their earlier work as childish is absurd...they saved rock and roll from impending doom in my book.

Weird Al Yankovic did a great parody cover of this called "This Song's Just Six Words Long" from his excellent "Even Worse" album, even if he actually used 7 words in the chorus ("This song is...") :-) On a more serious note, George's parent album "Cloud Nine" is a very good collection of songs - possibly one of the best solo albums by a Beatle.

This was his solo years with some uptempo. Jeff Lynne was the producer on this song, that’s the reason why it was uptempo. This album, Cloud Nine, was produced by ELO's Jeff Lynne, subsequent Traveling Wilbury bandmate of George's. It came out 1 year before the Traveling Wilburys and many of the songs hint at the sound of the future Wilburys songs. You can also hear a lot of ELO in the choruses of this song.

There's actually an alternate version of this music video that is quite adorable. But, this more famous version of the music video was, apparently, partially inspired by the movie "Evil Dead"?! (Which is why the taxidermy animals give ya creepy vibes 'cause they kinda came from a slightly creepy inspiration 😆). And, by the way, this song is actually a cover! George Harrison's version became way more popular but, it was originally recorded in the 1960s by a lesser-known singer named James Ray. It did okay when it was first released in the '60s but, it wasn't until George gave it a try in the '80s that it turned into a number 1 hit! 😁

Interestingly enough, the Traveling Wilburys came about when Harrison was in L.A. to record a B-side song for the "Got My Mind Set on You" single. He asked Jeff Lynn if he would help him come up with something, but because studio space is hard to come by on short notice, they ended up using Bob Dylan's home studio. Roy Orbison and Tom Petty came over, too, and the next thing they knew, they had written "Handle with Care". And then they thought, "Hmmmm......"

George was known early on as the “quiet Beatle”. He didn’t talk as much as the others, and later on became very spiritual as evidenced by his later Indian influenced Beatles music and solo albums such as All Things Must Pass. However, he had a very dry wit and could hold his own against John Lennon’s biting sarcasm. But George had a lighter side to him too and was friends and did projects with members of Monty Python. Jeff Lynne (ELO) produced the album this song came from (Cloud 9) and the two later formed the Traveling Wilburys which you reviewed a few months back and totally missed George’s involvement. You were able to identify Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, etc, but said something like ‘we don’t know who that guy is’ (George). As far as the Beatles go, a look into their pre psychedelic “Beatlemania” era would be nice. I think you would enjoy songs such as I Feel Fine, Ticket to Ride, Paperback Writer, Drive My Car, Norwegian Wood, And Your Bird Can Sing among many others.

After the Beatles ended in 1970, George came out hot with the ALL THINGS MUST PASS album and the Concert for Bangladesh. Then, he went kind of semi-dormant for the rest of the 70s and 80s until 1987, when he erupted with another set of hits that kept him on the charts and in the public eye for three or four years. In the mid-1990s, he was busy with Paul and Ringo working on THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY, which included two "new" Beatles songs cobbled together from some unfinished tapes that John Lennon made in the late 1970s.

George wasn't even close to being semi-dormant in the years between "All Things Must Pass" in 1971 and the "Cloud Nine" album in 1987. He released *seven more solo albums* in that time period! :-) He also had some big hit songs, including two top ten hits: '73's "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)" and '81's "All Those Years Ago."

George Harrison was the 1st Beetle to play in America. He came to Southern Illinois to visit his sister in Benton Illinois. In Eldorado il in September of 1963 he was invited onstage at a concert he borrowed the lead guitarist, guitar and played a few songs with the band. Tge following February 1964 tge Beatles were on the Ed Sullivan show with 73 million Americans watching. Imagine the surprise the people he had met in Southern illinois had.

Produced by his good friend, Jeff Lynne (Mr. ELO) In fact, George convinced Paul & Ringo to use Jeff to produce the Beatles reunion songs in the 90s Check out 'Free as a Bird' from that session It's on KZbin A pretty one featuring the vocals of John Lennon Jeff superimposed John' vocals on the track and the remaining 3 played & sang over it

This is one that Weird Al parodied. His chorus was "This song is just six words long". He also was a major financial backer of The Life of Brian by Monty Python. And I think he also was a backer behind The Rutles, a parody of The Beatles that included Eric Idle from Monty Python.

Even if this video is so much fun to watch, there is another version for you guys to check in your free time, and it's also very worth it, you can look for 'George Harrison - Got My Mind Set On You (Version I)'. And here some suggestions of more of his upbeat songs, believe me, George is one of a kind and full of secrets. 'Fish on the Sand', 'Devil's Radio', 'Shanghai Surprise', 'Dream Away', 'This song', 'You', 'Going down to golders green'.

I love the song and the video for "Got My Mind Set On You", but y'all know that's George Harrison's stunt double doing the dancing in the middle of the video! 😄 For the mellower Mr. Harrison, please react to "Give Me Love" and his salute to the Beatles "All Those Years Ago".

Yep! In the middle of the video, Harrison (through the use of a stunt double) performs a backflip from his chair and follows it with a dance routine before jumping back to his seat. It was choreographed by Vincent Paterson.

That looked like stunt double to me. The man doing the back flip off the chair and dancing seemed to have a stronger build and darker hair. I don't remember ever seeing George Harrison so, animated since he was a younger man.

I love this song! It's so fun and upbeat. Love all of the Beatles, together and separate. a song I'd love to see you react to is 'Oh Darling!' by the Beatles, featuring Paul McCartney. You won't be sorry. It will blow your minds with his true gritty bluesy growling voice. So awesome. I love your reaction channels and look forward each day to seeing y'all and hearing your comments. You guys are the best.

The beauty about the three main singers in The Beatles is that they could all be mellow (see John's "Love" or Paul's "Junk", ahem) or could rock out to their heart's content. Ringo's solo stuff is mainly old rock and roll standards or songs about how cool it was to be a Beatle. I highly, HIGHLY recommend "Wah Wah" by George, specifically his live version from The Concert for Bangladesh. I used to think it was about a romantic relationship, but it's actually about the breakup of the Beatles ("wah-wah" meaning headache), and it's a rock-soul masterpiece.

OMG! Y'all have to know that that was a stunt double, right? George Harrison couldn't move like that. 🤣"Crackerbox Palace" is a must from George. George and Ringo had a hit with "It Don't Come Easy", and Ringo had solo hits with "Photograph" and "The No No Song" among others.
