Hi Shae, I am sure there are a lot of people here asking why you would buy a horse without a pre-purchase exam. I was married to an equine vet for 20 years and probably assisted with over 400 exams. Vets check for vitals, lameness, and anything that catches their eye. Well, a few years ago we adopted the most stunning Warmblood we had ever seen. Her floating canter took your breath away. But she came in thin, and we couldn't put weight on her. Turns out she had a long history of ulcers that had not been addressed properly. $10,000 for the specialist later, we thought we had turned the corner when the specialist visited and said she was doing better than she had ever hoped for. Two days later, she went down and I knew she was in terrible pain. The vet arrived in 10 minutes and immediately ended her suffering. My point is, nothing is foolproof. A horse can step on a rock and that's it. So enjoy today! 🐴

Hearing the auctioneer brought a tear. 😢 My father was an auctioneer and once a month he called at a horse sale. I was allowed to go and it was so much fun! We used to race other kids on the catwalks over the stalls. My father had a soft spot for Tennessee Walkers and I was obsessed with Appaloosas. My Dad would usually buy 2 and our hired man Mr. Beasley would break them to ride/train them. This was 61 years ago!

At an auction this might be a concern. jmo

Shae, I've loved horses since I was a little girl. I never had the opportunity to have one, although I did some riding with an elementary school friend. Otherwise, it was a touristy stable ride during summer vacation in the mountains, and I stopped when I got old enough to realize how $hitty those horses' lives were. I'd give anything to have a horse to love and groom. I love your videos so much, living vicariously through you. You are the horse woman I wish I could have been. I've learned soooooo much about horses from you and your channel. I love the herd, especially Ariel and Mushu. I believe in your mission. Thank you 😊🐴🐎

Hi Shae, I purchased 2 draft crosses at the Waverly spring auction this year. I did it online 😯, so thankful it turned out for the best and I love both of them, but I learned I should not have bid button in front of me during a live auction. I do not recommend anyone do this, so thankful it turned out well for me. I have 2 other full drafts and do lessons here and board for a few people. I am old enough to be your mom and so I love you take us to the auctions with you. My husband likes it better that way too😂, but he is a super great horse husband, so supportive and a hard worker like Kyle is....one of the horses I purchased was named Kyle, he is sweet as can be. He paddles quite a bit and almost didn't bid on him because of that, but decided to go for it and so glad I did...anyway, keep on shopping Shae!!! We love going with you!!! 😍🥰🤩

Exactly! Having someone with a good eye that can point out potential health problems is so helpful. Every horse is beatiful and deserves a good home, but if you are unable to provide for thier health needs then you aren't a good home for them. She's helping us learn to find the right fit.
@emilyhope7468Ай бұрын
Thank you. I enjoy the auctions and your opinions on certain horses. It's an education for me. This auction sort of made me sad. When I heard the boy say the goats were meat goats and the little feeder piggy's. I'm mature enough to know that not every animal is going to have the best outcome. I felt so sorry for the big white Appaloosa. You pointed out his eye, but he just looked old and tired. Definitely wouldn't want to send me to an auction. I'd come back with 2-3 goats, a pig or two and a few horses. So glad you are level headed and not prone to impulsive buying!

It would be interesting to know how many of the 289K FSE subscribers are actually horse owners. I’d bet a very small percentage, just because horses are expensive to keep, require a lot of time and dedication that a lot of people can’t commit to. I would love to have horses but it’s way beyond my capabilities.

From reading LOTS of comments here, I think there are a lot of folks who do not have horses. In my case, I am retired & can no longer ride so no horses....BUT there's a group of locals in my community keeping horses rescued from Helene here in NC. This allows their owners to get back on their feet & then get their horses back. I now have 2 Helene horses in my barn/pasture. It feels great. They are wonderful backyard horses. 😊
