In the animation of the "new gasoline and diesel engines" you can see that they are two-stroke engines; they fire at the top of the stroke every revolution. This is an interesting development.

BMW's biggest EV disaster was discontinuing the i3, which has a body made of fibre-reinforced plastic that cannot rust and also has large-diameter but narrow wheels for low rolling resistance, something that most electric vehicle manufacturers are not bothering with. The i3 was not BMW's first electric car. It made a prototype called the E1 about 30 years ago that was much talked about in the press at the time. It had a sodium-sulphur battery with energy density of about 120 watt-hours per kg, which was the best available at the time although modern lithium batteries can have twice this energy density. The sodium-sulphur battery worked at a temperature of about 400deg.C and required several kilowatt-hours a day to keep it hot even if it was not being used. Letting the battery cool was likely to crack the aluminium oxide separator/electrolyte, which would destroy the battery. After about a year the prototype E1 "accidentally" caught fire, and BMW then abandoned the project.

According to data from market analyst Dataforce, which collected information from member states of the European Union (with the exception of Slovakia, which did not send the data), plus the United Kingdom and the markets of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), Norway, Switzerland and Iceland, BMW ended last July with a total of 14,687 electric vehicles sold, while Tesla sold a total of 15,216 cars. With these results, reports Automotive News Europe, the German brand ended the first month of the second half of the year just 629 vehicles away from Tesla, with the two companies even revealing opposing trends: at the same time that BMW saw the its EV sales increased 34 percent, the North American brand fell 16%.

Tesla H1 2024 sales were 830,766 all-electric vehicles (globally). BMW H1 2024 sales were 179,557. Tesla will soon outsell BMW global sales. The Model 3 has replaced the M3 as THE sports sedan. The Model Y is the best selling vehicle in the world two years running. BMW has still not committed to BEVs without even a dedicated chassis having infamously said “There are no customer requests for BEVs. None,” BMW’s director of development, Klaus Frölich. The Valley of Death is a chasm for BMW.

You are 1 war too late. BMW is back ré-investing massively in EVs and the iX lineup. But this time BMW has understood : it won't succeed without competing prices with chinese equivalents. What happens in Europe with a slowdown of sales is temporary and only linked to the demand/offer. There is no EV demand anymore for cars above 50k. But a huge demand waiting for a 25k EV. And Chinese makers are ready... not Europe nor the USA, which are raising import tarifs to avoid to see their automakers DISAPPEAR ! THAT'S THE ONLY TRUTH.
