Anyone who knows anything about the sport knows that most of the top drivers: Max, George, Lewis, Charles, Norris are all within a tenth or two of eachother in equal machinery. Any combinations of those drivers will result in close fights. Car performance makes drivers look much better. Look at lewis v george in a sub-par car. Max is already looking human in a car that isn't as dominant. DTS fans haven't a clue what they are on about.

What is Russell supposed to say, he is in a very unfortunate situation at Mercedes. He thought he was being promoted to a top team after his 3 years at Williams (which he felt was too long of a period) but Mercedes is everything but a top team since he joined them. But why his situation is even more unfortunate is because he has a team boss that constantly talks about either Max Verstappen or Kimi Antonelli being the future of the team and never about him. If I was Russell I would leave Mercedes as soon as I had that opportunity, because it is clear he has nothing to gain at that team, he either has to help Antonelli when he joins the team or he has to fight Max until he will be replaced by Antonelli if they would loan him out to another team first. If Russell is smart he will try and hijack that final Audi seat, because Mercedes is not the place where he will ever be the star driver, no matter how often he will repeat he wont back away from any challenge, not even if that challenge is called Max Verstappen.

I’ll just say this. It’s easy to judge George as not being on Max’s level when he’s not had a consistently good car. That’s the key. It’s hard to have consistent results when the car itself is inconsistent. A car that even Sir Lewis, 7x WDC, finds a challenge. And with such an unreliable/inconsistent car, it makes it easier for mistakes to arise. However, when the car has been good. When the car has been able to show pace. George has been there. Getting P2 in a Williams in the rain (“the great equaliser”). Showing great race pace in races such as Brazil 2022, Qatar 2023, Spain 2023, Abu Dhabi and Las Vegas 2023. Not to mention that, if that Mercedes was only a tenth better at Monaco, George would’ve been on the podium in Monaco.
