WARNING: This will be rather long. So to answer some questions you might have: Sans was able to go on for so long after Papyrus died because he absorbed the Determination keeping Papyrus's soul intact. That is also why he was melting as monsters can't handle Determination due to their bodies being made completely of magic. Humans are able to have Determination as they are made up of physical matter. As for why Frisk can't simply reset, that was the whole reason Sans contained their soul and not killed Frisk. Frisk is essentially in Limbo, not alive, but not so close to death that they can reset. Even if Frisk could reset, their save point would be outside Alphys's lab, before the fight that is shown to be unwinnable as although this is a fan animation, we can assume that fights go pretty much the same. The whole reason that reset is so powerful is because each time you come back, you retain the knowledge and can therefore learn your enemies attack patterns. In this case, that won't work as even doing everything else flawlessly, the last attack is like you sparing Sans in the base game, unavoidable.

@@witherslayer4239 also we know that we would straight up load back at the death attack because we see that sans saved us up there Oh and don't forget that sans must have the most dt because he is able to save which means that we can't interact with our save file(if you don't believe me flowey said in the real game that he once was able to reset before frisk came + we cant interact with our save file then we fight omega flowey because at that point flowey has the most dt ps. Flowey only don't melts like sans does is because flowey doesn't have a soul)

That’s not entirely true that the fight is unwinable, since CotV is confirmed to have three different phase 3’s depending on the players choice after phase 2.5, that’s why one left is called phase 3a. We don’t know how 3b(papyrus) or 3c(gaster) ends but based on the footage that was revealed since the animation was canceled, it’s probably safe to assume papyrus looses trying to get us to change, while gaster breaks our computer or something.

You can't reset cause he took your determination and is now more powerful than you. Also, he wasn't tired at the end, he was melting because of the determination. An example of this happening in other monsters are the Amalgamates.

There is no Reset for us in that timeline in the fight it showed that Sans had the Save Star. He has more Determination than us so The Player can't reset.

Reset is only possible when you have the save star That means you have to have the most dt. (Proof flowey tells us somewhere in the game that he had the same power of save and reset before frisk came)

You can only save when you have determination, Flowey could do that because Alphys was experimenting on flowers with determination, one of them was flower with Asriels dust on it, that's why Asriel came to life as Flowey. Frisk has more determination than Flowey that's why he couldn't reset when Frisk came to the underground

I’m here to set things straight when sans was holding papyrus soul he doesn’t break it he take the determination form it because paps soul had DT in it sans didn’t have DT so papyrus basically sacrificed his soul so sans had the power to take out the human number 2 sans is melting in the end actually sans in og undertale when their were those water looking things on sans head it wasn’t sweat it was his soul melting becuase of his magic overuse ing so it was melting his body DT also does this we get this info form alyphes true lab text it says “when a monster soul contains DT it starts to melt the monster body makeing them these wired monsters” what’s happening with sans is the DT and magic overuse is melting sans body so much that he ether melts fully when the fight ends or he becomes something like six bones of sans becoming an amalgamate so sans is sacrifice ing himself to capture you number 3 chara can’t reset becuase when a soul is captured the human isn’t close enough to death to reset but also isn’t alive basically the human is in this type of limbo not being wise and not being dead enough to reset hence why ashore captured the humans not killed them becuase dead human souls don’t work as well as live humans so asgore captured them to use them for the barrier that answers most of what I wanted to clear up hope you find this information good tootles
