MyLivingWorld Ants Russell T Davies was the show runner from series 1-4 (+ specials). Skipping series 1 doesn’t only neglect the brilliant start to the Modern Series, but you completely miss the damaged Doctor after he thinks he’s committed genocide. There is clear character development from Ecclestone to the end of Tennant. Missing Series 1 is like missing the first few chapters in a book; you’ll miss the nuances and subtle character interactions that turn the Doctor from raged filled killer to ‘a man who never would’. It doesn’t make sense

Agree. The Doctor getting angry is always "fantastic". Here is one of my favorite moments, and everyone's reaction, including the Dalek, including Rose, was great. Nobody (even the people who barely know the Doctor) seem concerned that he's one man against 400,000 Daleks, they quickly grasp that the Dalek's fear/respect the Doctor and there must be a reason for that.

Knight Chime I was clearly talking about his performance, but Doctor Who is more often than not a semi-anthology show so standalone episodes are kind of it’s thing. I do think Series 1 is one of the best at having each episode contribute in some way to its character or plot arcs. Certainly “Father’s Day” is very important in Rose’s decision-making in “The Parting of the Ways” and how she reacts to Parallel Earth Pete.

I still think the Daleks controlling the human race behind a far future game station is the best concept the show has done. It had the ideal mix of weird and suspension of disbelief Doctor Who, with an interesting and believeably future-like feasible sci-fi concept, involving some kind of higher power acting as controllers.
@ollyreece4208
@ollyreece4208 4 жыл бұрын
@@FreeTheDonbas Your comment is presuming that I think it's the best concept of NuWho, and while that is correct, the original comment states very clearly I think it's the best concept the show has ever done, I am fully aware despite having not seen every single classic episode that Doctor Who existed well before 2005. The game station is certainly not a rip off, but the converting humans into Daleks I wouldn't call a rip off as Daleks converting humans is a common thing anyway, the context made a lot of sense and almost forced them to take that path, and was only really a focus of Parting of the Ways for the opening. Plus if Revelation of the Daleks was supposedly one of the worst stories, then why not include the same concept in a story that was better recieved in every way possible? After all didn't they want to cancel the show in McCoys era? Is it not better to include the concept in a time where the BBC actually cared about the show. And I would argue many of the NuWho viewers might not actually remember Revelation of the Daleks, simply because they were new viewers who weren't alive in Classic Who, or due to the BBC not wanting Who to be advertised and what not. The definition of a rip-off was the Timeless Children with 13 having the button to push akin to the 9th Doctor. The former out of nowhere and out of character trying to emulate former series finales, the latter built into character and context.

@@FreeTheDonbas Ey, calm down man it ain't that deep, it's a KZbin comment section not a battle to see who's right and wrong. But if your going to get all wound up about an opinion difference over a KZbin comment, then......... You do you bro.

IMO the foundation of the character of The Doctor can be found in five of the actors, alone. Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee, and Tom Baker all created individual characters with individual traits that rarely overlapped, if at all. Four distinct persona's of The Doctor that every single actor has pulled from since........except for *Christopher Eccleston*. The 9th Doctor is the fifth unique persona of the character. Like the first four, Chris did not copy any traits, mannerisms, or quirks that previous and future actors would mimic. Nine has been the last genuinely and truly unique persona of The Doctor that we have seen so far. Everyone else is simply copying traits of of those five.

Ecclestone was an interesting take on the Doctor. Not really based on any of the previous docs. I wish he could have stomached the direction the show was going to take and do a couple more seasons but I HIGHLY respect him for leaving. He saw the upcoming storm. Great Doc!!

@@IsaacWhittakerDakin sometimes some episodes only need one episode. For example some of the best in NewWho have been single episodes. Such as Dalek, Father's Day, The Girl in the Fireplace, Blink, Midnight, The Eleventh Hour, Vincent and the Doctor... Sometimes stories don't need to go on and can conclude well in one episode.

@@ary5368 Yeah I won't deny that a lot of stories are great as single episodes but I think there's some that deserve another episode like Orphan 55, Victory of the Daleks, Nightmare in Silver, The God Complex.

So the 2005 reboot was my first exposure to Doctor Who, and watching this scene again, I’m reminded of Lord of the Rings and the Ride of the Rohirrim. There’s a line in the book, where we’re told that the orc army, which had been bred and taught to never know fear, and instead instill it in others, felt terror at the sight of the cavalry charge.
