I have serviced woodstoves for nearly eight years and this is a clever and beautiful design. Time will tell if it will hold up to the rigors of regular use, but being stainless will certainly help! I am planning a move across the country and a portable tiny house and the amount of weight this saves over a traditional woodstove certainly makes this a build worth considering, if not as a primary heat source, certainly a cooking surface! I applaud you ingenuity and thank you for sharing your ideas and construction methods!

Wow, that's one of the best DIY wood stove *ever* . This updated version truly is masterwork! You have inspired me to give it a try but I have an idea and maybe you like it, I would love your opinion: since the stainless steel food containers can be stacked so tight, to the point that they become air-stuck, do you think it could be a good idea to use two bottom and two top containers to double-wall the whole body?
@campingtogether4 жыл бұрын
Interesting Idea. Thanks! If it can be stacked so tight, it would bring better durability I think!
@crazyb32654 жыл бұрын
I had a similar thought, but was wondering if there would be a thin space between pieces to add a thin sheet of rock wool to insulate and increase efficiency.
@JohnLong.4 жыл бұрын
@@crazyb3265 Great idea, it's absolutely possible and this actually would solve it all! Those pans stack tightly, so tight that they have to also make specific "anti-jamming" ones. You definitely could put something in between those layers, then press it down and the only drawback I can think of would be that, depending on the thickness of the insulating layer, aligning, cleaning up and sealing the door and window could be a bit trickier since they're slightly offset. Nothing a bit of that oven rope-gasket couldn't fix and really it shouldn't be much of a problem unless you go with over something like 1/2" final, "compressed" rockwool thickness, which I think you shouldn't anyway because too much insulation and you end up with an oven where it's super hot and efficient inside but produces very little external heat. Other than that, it's a thousand buck idea! Being double-walled AND insulated would indeed make it a lot more efficient and give it some structural integrity. Making it stop "pinging" and glowing red so much while giving it some extra heat retention and efficiency!

@wownewstome61234 жыл бұрын
Wonderful you have your Grandson's best interest at heart. This stove looks great, but why not double check on safety first? For one, can it leak Carbon Monoxide (the "silent killer") due to warping and bolt use? Examples of what I read: Stainless steel warps with heat and a warped surface won't make good contact with your pots/pans. Personally, I'm not too comfortable with the legs. They don't seem that sturdy in the video with just the weight of the stove. Now add in the weight of the firewood. In any case, best of luck to you. I hope you and your Grandson enjoy your camping time together!
@Magill25714 жыл бұрын
@@wownewstome6123 As long as the area that it is being used in is well ventilated there is no problem. I am on it when fire safety is needed as I was a trained Fire NCO in the British army for over 10 years. When it comes to warping metal I all comes down to the quality of the metal and as the metals used in this post are designed for industrial sized ovens which kick out one hell of a lot of heat this should not matter to much plus, adding extra bolts to the rims and support struts to the legs all should be good. Thank you for your concerns👌
