Jacob is currently 25 years old and was diagnosed with a nano rare form of ALS at the age of 23. He is the youngest person in West Virginia living with ALS. Jacob's condition is caused by a FUS gene mutation, which is known to be a highly aggressive form of ALS. Typically, those with this genetic version have a life expectancy of 1 to 3 years. However, Jacob's story took a hopeful turn when he participated in a clinical trial at The Ohio State University in May of last year. The university is at the forefront of developing innovative treatments that specifically target these gene mutations.
