Haven't seen a video covering this topic specifically - Your experience with voice training should NOT feel like an intro to music technology course. If you're looking for exercises in this video, you won't find them. If you're looking for technique in this video, you won't find it. This video is strictly to help you parse out what good voice training resources will look like, and hopefully clear up some misconceptions you had about voice training.

This is a great video and I also haven’t really seen it done before! There are so many different resources out there now that can get buried in technical info and older algorithm-favored videos. Thanks for making this!

On the note of the "swallow method": there's a bit of a misconception floating around that it's an actual method of speaking. Really, it's just a short exercise to help gain some control over your larynx, and then you're supposed to stop doing it. For some reason people were thinking you were somehow supposed to be trying to talk through the top of the swallow, which you obviously couldn't do if you tried, because it closes both your nose and throat when you do a swallow. You can neither breathe nor talk while doing so. The main criticism I've heard is that it engages more muscles than strictly necessary, the rest seem to stem from the above misconception, as far as I understand it anyways. A popular method among VRChat voice troller's tutorials is to start with a kermit the frog impression and pitch it up a little bit at a time until you find your voice at a comfortable level. The rational behind it, IIRC, is the impression gets you semi close-ish to the proper resonance. Which you can't really do before being able to control the larynx a little bit first. They're basically starting at the middle rather than the beginning of the process, which is why a lot of people don't find them helpful. Unfortunately, their videos are the ones you're going to find when you search for "girl voice tutorial" or "how to do a girl voice" in KZbin. You'll also get a couple Zheanna's older videos too, which as you mentioned she doesn't really stand by anymore and will only serve to scare people away because they were quite overly technical and music theory focused.

Been really struggling with identity and all that. Bit your videos did help me realize that it's always been a dream of mind to be mute, in a messed up way. Never really thought about it further than that lol.
