I hate when carats call jeonghan mom or people even proceed to call him a "she" and that is really disgusting to see, everyone seems to be okay with it, K-pop Stan wants to normalize misgendering idols so bad. Calling him the mom of the group is not harmful but feminizing him every single time is just weird

This is soooooo true!!! But what's just as bad is when you try to correct these delulus, and they flip out saying "It's just a joke!" and that we are the bad ones for taking it "too seriously", and completely ignoring the fact that they are being so incredibly disrespectful and insulting to these idols, celebrities, etc.

You talked about Taemin being ok with it, and it's true nowadays, but even with him that wasn't always the case (you touched on this lightly in the video), he used to HATE it, he would do everything he could to try and be more "manly" and it took him years and a lot of pain to embrace it and re-claim it as a strength, turning it into something he's proud of, but it wasn't an easy or pain free road, and it definitely left scars. It was only around the Move era (2017) when he said "you know what, I don't care about gender, it has no meaning, and I can be both masculine and Feminine if I want to", but he had almost 10 years of pain leading to it. Jonghyun even wrote the song Pretty boy for him about this, they had a long talk about what Taemin wanted to say and what came out is that he didn't want people to only think about him as a "pretty boy", that he was more than that, and that he is more than what societal expectations of what a man should be are.

I absolutely agree with you, I do call the youngest members of kpop groups adorable that’s the only appropriate term and time. Leave these male idols alone. I also agreeing on calling male idols “mom” lol just because he’s affectionate towards his members doesn’t mean he’s a mother now guys. Call them parents and go.

Thank you for addressing this issue. It takes real guts to address issue that has become so rampant that fans don't understand the harm or impact of it. I have felt really uncomfy for a while with how every male idol has been referred by a feminine term. It felt like emasculation of male idols and almost getting them trapped in this limbo. I esp disliked the family dynamic. It was so cringe. I understand if they said stuff as such once or twice. But it became so common that I would see it happening to idols like Seonghwa even when all he is doing is posing for a pic. I was flabbergasted that the entire comment section was filled with "Seonghwa is mothering". Like bruh...he is just posing for fking picture!! Sorry about my language. You are really brave to address this issue. And I am glad that someone is in same wavelength as me.

@@iii9591 Maybe. But it is weird to be used everywhere. Like I know Seonghwa is Androgynous and a beauty. But you know he is a guy at the end of the day. It sounds very awkward when all he is doing is posing for picture and the comment section is filled about him being "elegant mom", "high class mom", "such polished and sophisticated mom". I know most do not mean it in a wrong way but can't they praise him without using any feminine terms to describe him?

@@alesonu yes it’s very werid especially the fact Asian men had always been feminized which makes it more weird. Also the term “mother” comes form lgbt and black culture The term originated in the 1970s New York City ballroom scene, which was created in response to racism in the drag and pageant community. Unfortunately our slang keeps on getting misinterpreted everyday

I always love your videos! So insightful and entertaining. I want to mention 2 things I haven’t seen anyone do a deep dive on and it falls under the topic of the over sexualization of kpop idols. *1. Demanding fans and wadrobe:* Fans cross the line a lot when it comes to what the idols do and do not want to wear. I remember when txt had their music show stages for the Deja Vu cb and a lot of moas were disappointed that the members who wore cropped suits in the mv did not wear them on stage. Beomgyu noticed this and apologized, saying that he would make sure he wore the outfit that the fans wanted the next time. I’m not sure how comfortable he is with showing skin, and I can’t decide since I don’t know him personally, but obviously there’s a reason why he wasn’t wearing it. He could’ve requested the cropped shirt if he so desperately wanted it. Nobody should have to make themselves be uncomfortable just for the demands of their fans. *2. Over sexualization in editing:* I can already see the comments from a mile away telling me I’m dramatic and need to stop babying grown adults (which is NOT what I’m doing btw). I say all of the following words as an editor of 5 years, so no, I’m not just some random angry fan and I hope my perspective gives others insight. I would like to make a disclaimer though, if the idols truly enjoy the over sexualized edits and comments and even encourage them, then that’s fine and that’s their preference but I’m speaking for those that most likely don’t. Let’s be serious, some of the edits and comments are getting out of hand. I cannot scroll through TikTok without seeing a ridiculously over sexualized edit of any kpop idol. I’m not saying that can’t be viewed as sexy. Ofc they can be sexy. If they want to be presented that way and are of the appropriate age to be viewed in that manner, I view them that way as well. But I find but these transitions, zooms-ins, clips, audios (like certain inappropriate sounds, not songs), etc. to be very questionable. People are going out of their way to sexualize them based off of innocent clips. I remember seeing an edit of Huening Kai and one of the clips was when he was playing a game with members where they tried to catch whipped cream in their mouths. It was a fun, silly game, and the editor made it.. you know what, and made certain comments about the clip which encouraged viewers of the editor to make the same comments. Why is it so normalized for editors to make the idol part of their own fan fantasy? Also, the comments have gotten 1000x worse in the past year. Why are people so comfortable saying what they would like to do in the bedroom with an idol… friendly reminder, you do not know these people and they do not know you!! If you wouldn’t say it to their face, don’t say it on the internet where they can see it.

God I almost got so triggered by how winters was treated in shanghai for a "rumor" about her dating Jungwon. People has to be unhinged to invade a idol's personal life to this extent. Ofc the rumor of dating was not true, even if it was, what it has got to do with anyone?? It has no connection with their music!! How is it even relevant?? It is their freaking pvt life!! Sorry for the venting. I am just too annoyed with how Winter was cursed. It has left me extremely heart broken

If I remember something l that happened with Jin back in 2018 where said he didn't like being called by feminine terms(not just mom) but everyone ignored his wishes until the those types of jokes died out in the fandom. Like always calling men specially the biggest and most buff member of bgs baby girls started off us funny and sweet and now day most it's has gone too far because it shouldn't be weird for men to want to be cute and want to be pampered specially by the older member(yes I aslo agree I find so weird that fresh and cute concept are called gg concept now, because if you reverse it called Dark or Girl crush concept bg concept thay would eat us alive). As for the chroncally online part I feel like idols idols do try to keep up with trends and meme but yeah I agree the baby girl and princess joke aren't something they will understand or feel comfortable with

As a moa and a ningdungie, all of the kai feminization makes me so mad. Kai is not 16 anymore, nor is he restricted from doing what he wants. I hope he isn't being held back in doing things that the other members are doing because of the fans who still think of him as a baby. Like no, last time I checked he was a grown man? Ew. Just ew.

This might be a hot take, but I kind of see it as fans perceive stereotypical female traits as superior to male, so they put female labels on their male idols in order to minimize their male-ness, making their fav better than yours bc they aren't afraid to be feminine.
