I’m not anti-religious, but let me get this straight: Noah and his seven compatriots managed to keep 2 of everything alive for a year on a dark, buffeted-by-cataclysm boat. Gotcha. He then turned loose the herbivores into a world of mud, debris, and jillions of rotted animal & human carcasses. Check ☑️ The carnivores were then released that needed to eat the herbivores that were trying to slog back through the wastelands from where they came (“Have a fun trip, koalas! I did do 10,000 eucalyptus-tree miracles about every mile or so to show you the way home, but you and the kangaroos might wanna ask Noah if you can borrow his boat!”). Now of course, by this vid’s hypothesis, The Lord coulda just supernaturally re-vegetated and repopulated all the stuff he spent a year destroying so the creatures had _something_ to munch on, but that would kinda make the whole “kill everything” a complete waste of time, right? 🤔

Let's not forget that a healthy percentage of this water rained down, which makes it fresh water. Mix that with salt water, and you get what's called Brackish water, which is something that very, *very* few aquatic plants and animals can survive for any real length of time. Combine this with the fact that, brackish or not, the receding waters would have had enough salt to salt the Earth's surface, and we have what is basically another entry in the 'End of the World' type of stories.

An interesting fact that many Christians forget, or more likely never knew, is that the literal interpretation of Genesis (1 to 11) is just that … an interpretation. They’d be shocked to learn how recent their preferred interpretation is, just as I was. Most Christians know the name of Martin Luther, the German priest who founded the Protestant movement, with his Ninety-Five Theses in 1517 alleged (falsely) to be nailed in protest to the door of a church in Wittenberg. One of Luther’s primary goals was to break the monopoly of the Catholic priesthood by opening scripture to the masses, first by translating it into his native German. However, the second aspect required was simplifying theological concepts - like creation - for a largely uneducated population. But you don’t need to believe me, you can read Luther’s own words in his Commentary on Genesis (available online), where he was one of the very first to advocate for the literal interpretation of Genesis. He starts in the Introduction by describing the beliefs of the (ancient) Jews, referencing the writings of the 4th century Jewish historian Jerome (Eusebius). Excerpt from Martin Luther - Commentary on Genesis - Introduction: “This first chapter of our Holy Bible is written in the simplest and plainest language, and yet it contains the greatest and at the same time the most difficult themes. Therefore the Jews, as Jerome testifies, were forbidden to read it or hear it read before they were thirty years of age. The Jews required that all the other Scriptures be well known by every one before they were permitted to approach this chapter. Their Rabbins however accomplished little good by this, for even many of the Rabbins themselves, whose years were more than twice thirty, give in their commentaries and Talmuds the most childish and foolish explanations of these, the greatest of all subjects.” Thirty years old! That’s hardly consistent with the modern creationist’s demand to “read it like a fourth grader, and that’s what it means.” Naturally, Luther would be much better at interpreting the meaning of Genesis living 2,500 years after its writing in a vastly different civilization, rather than the culture, time period, native language and theology from which it originated. That’s arrogance to say the least, but it’s consistent with his goal. He had to dumb down difficult ideas to the typical education level of 16th century Germany. Luther goes on to denounce similar non-literal intepretations of St. Augustine of Hippo (5th century) and Nicholas of Lyra (12th century), demonstrating the established non-literalism of Christian theology with regards to Genesis throughout all of history. For further education on the subject, Augustine is the most prolific early writer on the topic, expounding at length in three different books - “Confessions”, “City of God”, and the aptly named “The Literal Meaning of Genesis”. However, even Luther’s suggestion for Genesis literalism failed to take hold in the budding Protestant movement, even throughout the contemporaneous Copernicus revelation of heliocentrism and Galileo heresies of removing earth from the center of creation. It wasn’t until 1830 and the publication of Charles Lyell’s “Principles of Geology” expounding on the ancient age of the earth that small groups of Christians began to object, led in America by William Miller in upstate New York. Then, the watershed event occurred in 1859 with Darwin’s “On the Origin of Species” and the anti-evolution movement of the Christian church was born - but not the young earth movement. Even then, YECism was barely alive. The age of the earth wasn’t an issue, only the opposition to evolution, until 1870 when Ellen G. White, prophetess of the Seventh Day Adventists which had been born out of the Millerites, made the pronouncement that God had taken her back to witness the literal six days of creation. The man most responsible for the widespread belief in young earth creationism was born that same year into the SDA church - George McCready Price. He spent his life promoting the literal interpretation of Genesis, developing “flood geology” (with no education in geology) as a backhanded means of denying evolution the required time it implied. While most Christians and theologians still opposed evolution, they accepted an ancient earth. But there’s no need to believe me! There’s plenty of documentation from 1830 until now. Evolution resulted in the explanations of the basic beliefs of the Protestant Christian church through the publication of 90 essays from 1910 to 1915, bound into twelve volumes and published under the name “The Fundamentals” written by 64 authors representing all major denominations. Multiple essays deal directly with anti-evolutionism, yet none explicitly deny an ancient age of the earth or require a belief in a literal six days of creation. These are readily available online. That was the birth of “Fundamentalism”, which somehow eventually became the home of Young Earth Creationism. In fact, one of the essay authors is none other than Cyrus Scofield, author of the most popular study bible of the early 20th century, the Scofield Reference Bible, published in 1909 and distributed worldwide over many printings. Scofield’s commentary on creation? “The first creative act refers to the dateless past, and gives scope for all the geologic ages”, also known as “the gap theory”. Once again, the age of the earth was not a concern. Evolution was the concern, culminating in the 1925 Scopes “Monkey” trial, where another major figure in Fundamentalism (and anti-Darwinism) reveals his interpretation of Genesis on the stand, available online in transcripts of the trial. William Jennings Bryan was a hero of the anti-evolution crusade. A well-known, 3-time presidential candidate, Bryan was recruited as the prosecuting attorney for this trial of the century, and in a surprise move by defense council, Clarence Darrow, was called to the stand as a Bible expert. He agreed, admitting that the scientist he thought most highly of was none other than “George M. Price”. Although, his admiration for the Seventh Day Adventist who invented flood geology was not enough to accept a young earth, as he further responds to the question by Darrow, “Do you think the earth was made in six days?” with the clearly heretical non-YEC answer of “Not six days of twenty-four hours”. Bryan was not the only Fundamentalist “father” to reject Price’s young earth. Known as “The Grand Old Man of Fundamentalism”, William Bell Riley was an outspoken anti-evolutionist who stated (1927) that there was not “an intelligent fundamentalist who claims that the earth was made six thousand years ago, and the Bible never taught any such thing.” McCready Price was not dissuaded and continued his attempts through the creation of various societies, e.g. DGS and RSA, failing repeatedly to find a geologist who would adopt his flood geology, until finally in the 1950s, Henry Morris joined forces with John C Whitcomb, Jr., to publish in 1961 the book that wrapped all of Price’s prior ideas into pseudo-scientific language - “The Genesis Flood”. The book was widely praised by anti-evolution theologians, but the authors commiserated in personal letters over the next decade that these same theologians didn’t accept the entire premise of the book (a young earth)! The history of the rise in the anti-science, young-earth beliefs is well documented and easily accessible. My guess is that Young Earth Creationists would prefer to ignore it, avoid it, or just deny it. As a mainstream belief, the literal interpretation of Genesis is younger than the man speaking in this video.

@kevinjohnson4695
@kevinjohnson4695 Жыл бұрын
@@sspicer549 Your three-sentence comment contains a surprising amount of young earth apologist strategy. It’ll take a little to unpack it all! Beginning with your first sentence -- a question seeking to assign a label - this is a debate technique known as “poisoning the well” based on in-group/out-group psychology, constituting a not-so-subtle “ad hominem” attack, i.e. criticizing the person rather than the argument. This technique is aimed at an interlocutor who is usually in a hostile setting, as I certainly am here in the comment section of a young earth video. The expected reader of that assigned label can then much easier disregard the content of the discourse without expending any effort to confirm facts, investigate ideas, or perform research that could potentially be uncomfortable at best. That’s the goal of assigning a label, to prevent any serious consideration of the words. However, I would propose that a label in this particular context has no meaning, since I did not put forward any personal opinions or beliefs, rather simply summarizing easily verifiable historical information. I might as well be an automated chatbot. Your next statement -- that you don’t listen to anything that anyone says or writes -- implies that your personal theology was derived in the complete absence of any influence from parents, pastors, teachers, or books of any kind, which must include the Bible, given that it’s a translation of a translation of a copy of a copy, etc. Every translation involves a lot of interpretation, and there are hundreds of English translations. So your statement seems a bit unlikely, just an acceptable bit of hyperbole. However, if your family, friends and church all share your same hermeneutics, then it’s fairly certain that that is what you were taught - by someone in a position of authority - probably with no presentation of alternatives or debate and without the (very brief) historical context given in my original post. But where did those people get their interpretation? Probably the same way. And the people before them? That’s the point behind tracing specific interpretations of Scripture back to their roots -- the written statements, original ideas and the heated arguments that took place over decades, centuries, even millennia, first of all to consolidate hundreds of manuscripts into an accepted set of books that constitute the Bible that we have today (which BTW took over 300 years), but second to understand any specific interpretation of any particular passage and how it may have changed throughout history. This is something sadly missing from the modern church. Your final statement is an example of a common YEC strategy called the “straw man” argument, where you misrepresent an opposing point (not necessarily intentionally) and argue against the misrepresentation, rather than the actual statement. You state “no, young earth beliefs are not younger than the man in the video”, which is ironic given that my original post begins by talking of young earth beliefs via Genesis literalism as advocated by Martin Luther, published in 1545 in his Commentary on Genesis. My sentence to which you refer begins with the phrase “as a mainstream belief”, which is critical to its meaning. Rephrased for clarity, “The literal interpretation of Genesis 1 through 11 did not become widely accepted anywhere, even within the American Fundamentalist movement, until the mid to late 1980s, which is significantly later than the birthday of the man speaking in this video.” Since Martin Luther was advocating a literal interpretation of Genesis, and therefore young earth beliefs, in 1545, your statement is absolutely correct! I doubt that anyone has ever claimed otherwise, which is what makes it a “straw man”. Clearly, I did not say that “young earth beliefs are younger than the man in the video”. One last point -- your actual words were “I don’t really _listen_ …”, which is fundamentally different from not believing what I wrote. Refusing to “listen” does not cast any doubt on the veracity of the statements, as the word “believe” does. It means that hearing the content is so unpleasant that it must be avoided or ignored, and certainly not investigated. This is an example of confirmation bias, seeking out only information that supports your preconceived idea, while avoiding anything that challenges it. Rejecting all of modern science to accept a specific (and recent) interpretation of Scripture does absolutely no harm to those holding that view, or to those raised with those beliefs. However, it’s a monumental, insurmountable stumbling block to a billion people who will never accept God, Christ or Christianity when it’s presented as a required basic belief.

@@bryanbulmer6716 It is my "belief" - the only one expressed so far - that anyone who claims to be “listening to God” as Ellen G. White did in 1870 is a false prophet. That phrase “listen to ... God” implies that God is speaking directly to you, and not through the multiple layers of intermediaries who repeatedly copied and translated your preferred (presumably English) version of the Bible. However, I doubt that direct prophetic communication with God was your intended meaning. On the other hand, if you were referring to revelation through prayer, it becomes problematic since the literal interpretation of Genesis is a minority view among Christians worldwide -- "every city or house divided against itself shall not stand" (Matthew 12:25b). However, your response is interesting in a different way. Defining a discussion in terms of two mutually exclusive positions is one more common strategy of creationists, e.g. “if you don’t accept our specific interpretation of Genesis, then you are an atheist”. Your post suggests exactly that type of false dichotomy, on one side an easily verifiable summation of the history of this particular interpretation of Genesis, and God on the other side. Nothing in my prior posts requires “belief”, just an iota of curiosity to investigate whether it’s true. Your post implies that willful ignorance is “listening to God”, while researching any of the names, dates, or alleged facts in my posts (i.e. “listening to me”) would somehow be the opposite - somehow evil. That’s the false dichotomy proposed by your response. If what I say is factually accurate and true, wouldn’t God be on the side of fact and truth? I do not accept your implication that God encourages and values ignorance over knowledge, despite the literal interpretation of Ecclesiastes 1:18. If you choose to hide your brain in the sand and refuse to confirm or dispute any of the points in my post, that doesn’t make you righteous or holy - only uneducated, voluntarily blind. If I stated anything inaccurately, I’ll be the first to correct it if you endeavor to reveal the specific inaccuracy. But - does my position (acquiring knowledge) have Biblical support? I believe that it does … the second "opinion" I present. In John 20:24-29, Jesus does not demand that Thomas accept His assertion, but instead suggests that Thomas use his senses to observe reality and determine truth. I suppose the biggest difference between Thomas and Young Earth Creationists is that Thomas was enthusiastic to test and dispel his doubt, while Creationists are reluctant to investigate and risk destroying the foundation of their beliefs. Willful ignorance is therefore preferable to uncomfortable knowledge.

how can someone who is so keen to pretend to be interested in science, not put in the minimal effort to understand that a water canopy is physically impossible? is the water carried in a humid atmosphere? in that case, simple back of the envelope calculation for how hot the atmosphere would need to be to carry that much water gives you astonishing figures for temperature and pressure. or is the canopy in orbit? because in that case, it needs to rotate to be aloft. which makes it a ring, not a canopy. and it would have enough orbital energy that getting to the ground would raise its temperature several thousand degrees. basic stuff. but i guess details aren't very important when you're inventing just so stories for children ever notice how much time these pastors spend berating people for not believing enough? i mean, it's endless ... everybody believe harder! everybody sing this song about believing! everybody encourage each other in your belief!! it's _almost_ like the thing they're selling IS A BIT DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE. you know who doesn't bang on and on about belief? SCIENTISTS! they say here's a bunch of stuff if you're interested, we'll answer questions and we'll train you to understand what we're saying so you have actual mental skills to judge for yourself. this guy uses a few big words but doesn't know the basics. and he has his supporters trained to believe they're listening to a smart person

But I also believe science has barely scratch the surface. some christians only accept the literal 6 days creation, but I don't mind believing that it took thousands or millions of years - it doesn't make God any less in my opinion. 1 day to God could be a thousand years to us, so I can be flexible with that. Hope that's enlightening! If not, I have plenty more examples of how the god you claim to worship is not a good god and you should not worship them. Like the fact that according to your ilk, he calls on you to look the other way regarding child rape if it's one of your people doing it and just hope they stop "sinning" -- defined in your understanding not by the harm caused to people, but to an eternal being who you can no more than inconvenience momentarily, because *that* fucking makes sense -- and to torture children who aren't cisgender and heterosexual into suicide.

Where did all the water go? Well there was this super drought and the people of Babylon kept building hanging gardens, green grass lawns and swimming pools until they used up all that excess water. Sadly they went so far overboard with all that that they turned the middle east into a large desert. But then, the Bible can't even keep it straight when everyone boarded the boat: Did Noah, family and the animals board the ark 7 days before the flood began? Gen 7:1 The LORD then said to Noah, "Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. Gen 7:2 Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and one pair of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, Gen 7:3 and also seven pairs of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth. Gen 7:4 Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made." Gen 7:5 And Noah did all that the LORD commanded him. Gen 7:6 Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters came on the earth. Gen 7:7 And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons' wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood. Gen 7:8 Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground, Gen 7:9 male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah. Gen 7:10 AND AFTER THE SEVEN DAYS the floodwaters came on the earth. OR did they enter the ark the very day it began? Gen 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second month-on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. Gen 7:12 And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights. Gen 7:13 ON THAT VERY DAY Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark. Gen 7:14 They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind, everything with wings. Gen 7:15 Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark. Gen 7:16 The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the LORD shut him in. He had a dove find and freshly pluck an olive leaf from a tree that had been submerged under tons of water for 9 months, when it had only been exposed for less than 7 days; Gen 8:3-11. Note that the dove couldn't find a place to perch the first time it went out. And the raven kept flying to and fro until the waters were dried up, another 3 months or so. But then, if someone had warning enough of a flood to build a boat big enough to house a pair of every local known animal species, plus 7 pairs of all clean ones and 7 pairs of all birds, plus room for themselves and family, plus enough room for the food necessary to survive the duration of the flood (and NO ONE could foresee a flood lasting a year and 10 to 17 days), plus enough food to last until the soil would support life again (several years at best, more likely several decades), plus enough time to gather all that together into a working package, they'd have enough time to build dikes and levees. OR better yet just pack up their shit and move to higher ground. It would be MUCH easier to move all those animals and your possessions than to build a giant floating zoo. And much, much easier to feed and care for them (especially the clean up of their waste issue). NO ONE in their right mind would say "I'd rather waste time and energy building a floating zoo and stocking it for an unknowable period of time" if they could simply just move out of the way. And nothing but a total global flood deep enough to flood even the highest mountains would prevent them from just moving. And a "God" who is dumb enough to kill everything because one species wasn't "behaving properly" (especially considering the original design specs) isn't much of an all wise "God", nor is he all powerful. An all powerful, all wise and all knowing "God" could just create a super virus that targetted only the 'sinful' species. AND with the way Genesis describes the creation of Earth, he wouldn't need to have it rain for 40 days and nights. He could have simply pushed the land under the waters of the deep until everything was dead and let the land bob back up like a cork in a tub. OR just removed the Firmament separating the waters above from the waters below long enough to drown everything. Hell he supposedly built the firmament in less than a day. Surely he could have removed and replaced it in the same time frame. The Biblical "God" repeatedly shows that he's not all powerful, all wise, all knowing and especially not a "Loving" being. (But he does have traits of a being with psychiatrict issues, such as multiple personality disorder and even some Schizophrenia issues. Certainly some misogny issues. He's the product of primitive minds trying to explain the world they find themselves in. Nothing more. Although I would offer a challenge to flood believers. The outside dimensions of the ark allow for about 2.3 acres of surface area at a maximum height of 15 feet. They could prove their story by simply buying a chunk of land that size, building a wall around it and a ceiling preventing them from exceeding the maximum height, allowing only a 1 cubit opening at the top of the wall (below the 15 foot mark) and then fill it with however many animals they claim were on the ark PLUS all the food/water and other supplies needed to survive 2 or more years. And seal it like the ark would have been, without air pumps and light a match about a week after the animals were sealed inside.

I listened carefully & agree with your conclusions until 15:40+-. You stated all children killed before an age of accountability go to heaven'. If this were true, what loving parent WOULDN'T kill their children before that age to ensure eternity with GOD? There is another answer consistent with God's Holy Bible.

@@pedrohenriques2983 ABSOLUTELY agree with that summation. I am pretty aged, and have been in the church since my teens, yet have never heard a sermon on the subject. I texted our idea to the author Ryan Pitterson recently, but have as yet no response. God is just. No need to worry how He'll sort the goats. Worrisome to promote 'all dead children go to Heaven' without definitive Scripture.

I also agree with you. I have seen no basis in the scripture until today that the children, who died earlier than some age, go to heaven. People may think that God should not sent children to the hell, as if they are more merciful than our God. I am also children of God, even though I am much older. We are prone seeing this world as a place that we are tested, whether we go hell or heaven. But the purpose of creation is not test us. God wants a relationship with us. If we also want to have a relationship with HIM, then we can marry to HIM, being baptised and be part of HIS new creation. Otherwise, if we reject to marry to her/having full relationship with HIM, and select a life without God, we already begin to live in the hell. I love Him, as my husband/LORD. and I believe that HE is fully merciful, lovely. He is after the one sheep, even though he has already 99 others. I was once the one lost sheep, but now I am found and came back to my field with 99 others. I love HIM, and I can believe that whatever he does, perfect, lovely and merciful.

According to YAHUSHA / ‎𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 (Jesus) every thought triggers a behavior and every evil thought is rooted in sin. So any behavior that is contrary to your true nature which is the image of God is classified as evil thoughts. This is behind every sin behavior which is: murder, adultery, fornication, fear, rebellion, homosexuality, immorality, impurity, pedophilia, pornography, and etc. These thoughts masquerade as part of your DNA to make it look like it's genetic. It really is a thought that has to be mastered through repentance, prayer, and taking it captive in the renewing of the mind. Thoughts can be taken captive and mastered which will shut down or alter the persons behavior and lifestyle. No evil thought is greater than the image of YAHUAH/ ‎𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (GOD) that is in you. Paul said "no sin (evil thoughts) will master you for you are not under the law but under grace." which is instruction from God that the sin nature is not you and that you have power over it in Christ.

@@davidlloyd1750 ---- my "point" is that there is no such biblical doctrine of this mythical "age of accountability" - the closest precedent would be either that YHWH didn't condemn the Israelites under the age of 20 to die during the Wilderness Camping Trip or that Levites weren't considered old enough to be responsible until the age of 20 ( or 24 -- or 30 depending on which inerrant but controversial part of the bible is consulted ). As for YHWH and infanticide, he's famous for it: the firstborn of the Egyptians ( and their critters ) which would include newborns; the infants and children of the inhabitants of the cities and towns of the 'promised land' during the supposed conquest; Bathsheba's newborn; the fact that as an omnipotent, he/it/she would have not only known but orchestrated the stillborn and child deaths from before the beginning; and the condemnation of EVERYONE to eternal punishment for failure to telepathically tell Jesus they love him and accept him as their "savior". Maybe you should actually READ the bible ?

All land planet, no oceans, no lakes, only some rivers and a mist. Those waters all underneath dry land burst forth jettison-ing dry land and water into space. It's not where did the water go, but where did the land go?
