This is crazy because not only were Noah and Kiefer my intro to jazz piano, but wasn't Kiefer also roommates with Elijah Fox at one point? The first tune I ever practiced was Lady Bird, and hearing Lady Bird played by Elijah Fox for his Grammy audition is what opened my eyes to say "Man, I really want to do that". Noah's videos, Kiefer's music, all of these guys are just fantastic and it's nice that they're so close together in LA.

Noah and Keifer, this is awesome! My follow up question - that I've never really heard anyone discuss: What do those X minutes of practicing a topic actually look like for you? Do you just play the thing you're trying to learn over and over? How many reps, or maybe, when have you convinced yourself that you've "got it". I can struggle though something for 15 min and I know that I'm definitely not "done", but I have trouble knowing when to move on. What's your actual process? Thanks guys!!!!

Hey Dave, I like to use an 80% rule- once I feel 80% comfortable with something, I move on. Never underestimate the power of practicing slow, even painfully slow! Then moving up the tempo with a metronome. Then, put things in different contexts- if you’ve “got” an exercise, can you pull it out in a song or composition? Use the exercise to write something creative. Then sometimes, put that exercise away and come back to it in 3-5 days- do you still have it effortlessly? If so, you’ve probably really got it. If not, maybe still some work to do. Hope that helps!

For me also a problem is to collect / choose the resources, that's extra time. There are so much resources and possibilities to choose from, it is overwhelming, so most time I really don't practice one thing enough, because after two days I want to try the next one and in the end I forgot the first thing and so on and so on...

One really has to ignore 99% of the video tutorials. I mean, by all means watch a few here and there, but then save them to Watch Later and keep working on one or two things.

I never watched any of your videos, but I can't stand KZbinrs not going straight to the point immediately. Waiting 2 minutes until you address the first question is a little bit too much . When I see the little I want the content of the title straight away. Sorry for being so raw here, but I think this comment may help you make better and more engaging content.

Context matters especially if you’re a fan of the two in the video. I actually found the first two minutes refreshing because I was very surprised to see Noah and Kiefer in a video. Long story short, just because it doesn’t work for you doesn’t mean that’s the only reasonable approach. You can also fast forward to the section you find helpful. Cheers
