Noam Chomsky is an American linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, political commentator, social justice activist, and anarcho-syndicalist advocate. Sometimes described as the "father of modern linguistics", Chomsky is also a major figure in analytic philosophy. He has spent most of his career at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he is currently Professor Emeritus, and has authored over 100 books. He has been described as a prominent cultural figure, and was voted the "world's top public intellectual" in a 2005 poll.
Chomsky spoke on "U.S. Foreign Policy in Central America" in Berkeley, CA on May 14, 1984.

There must be a good German word for : That feeling you get when you visit a country, while feeling bad about accidentally participating in their genocide.

Its refreshing to have somebody like Chomsky, one of the greatest individuals the world has seen not only be well informed about politics all over the world, but to have him inform people of what has happened in south and central America ,and those events repercussions are quite clear as to the state of Not only latin America as a whole but the repercussions on the united states in terms of immigration, both legal and illegal, the direct correlations between crime and migration, and the level of involvement the United States has had all over the world,in this particular case latin America, the atrocities committed by the leaders of these countries supported ,funded and encouraged by the United states government and what can only be described as the terrorist branches of these governments throughout the 1900’s till now. people should hear what Chomsky writes and speaks about to be better informed as to their opinions, thank you Mr Chomsky!

God bless Noam Chomsky, such a rare thing, a man with the courage to speak truth relentlessly to power regardless of the consequences. As a side note, it is very strange from today's perspective to hear the audience laughing. I cannot imagine a Chomsky audience laughing at these things today. I understand the cause of the laughter is cynicism and ridiculing of the propaganda, however it still appears incredibly complacent when looking back on it in 2019. As the empire degenerates, with these problems right on our doorstep, the financial, social and moral costs spiralling out of control, and these same tactis increasingly being used to threaten Western populations and not just foreign ones, no one is laughing now.

Rather than being complacent, they were laughing at the duplicity and hypocrisy of US foreign policy. And as Chomsky remarked, if we didnt have a muzzled press, they would have described Obama's policies as a sick joke ..

Am I crazy? Why does every one keep laughing? It is not funny subjects at all, why do Americans always laugh when people talk about the mass murder of people in the third world?
