Just driven 1,800 miles around England and Scotland in our new ID3. Our first electric car. Brilliant car, great handling, fast acceleration when needed, comfortable, quiet. You need to get used to regenerative braking and one pedal driving - this saves electric charge and increases range. Able to get 240 miles on on charge but very careful driving, 180 miles on fast motorway driving. The electric charging system in Scotland is great ( Charge Place Scotland) - one system, lots of places, well spaced, most worked. The system in England is as mess- multiple companies with different systems, half did not work, lots of different apps or cards needed - in one motorway services 18/20 chargers out of order and the 2 Ecotricity ones still did not work- this needs government action to standardise the system. Ionity have 9 charging stations in England and 2 in Scotland - not enough. They do charge rapidly but if you have to pay they are expensive ( 79p/Kwh) - VW give you free charging for 1 year on the ID3 first. The electronics are great, still getting to know how it all works. Sat nav good- especially taking you to the charging stations. Some points which could be better- not enough cubby holes in dash or doors, rain drips into the back seat area when back door opened when parked and raining ( no sill above), seat controls are manual- not electric. Overall it is a great driving machine - if the future is electric then this is a good car have.

Great video, well done. We have our base ID.3 two weeks today, very happy with it so far. At the same price roughly as a base Diesel Golf auto, it is good value for an EV. Great performance and so refined. And efficient. Also a nice place to be, quality is excellent, even with the hard plastics which you don't notice after the first few miles.. At least they look good, which isn't always the case with other marques. When you set up the info screen to your own requirements, it's very simple. I just hand gesture between the two screens I need. First one has maps and trip info. Second one has phone and radio. But looking forward to the updates whenever. Only complaints so far is the fob had a flat battery!! And the wipers are set for left hand drive.

I enjoyed the review on the ID3 but I hear this from most all the reviewers " I have a car charger at home" no you don't unless you have a stand alone unit that can produce high output DC you have a "power supply" the battery charging is done by the onboard charger in the car. Here in the USA we have 1 x 120AC 16 amp and also 2 x 120AC 32 amp the higher the input the quicker the charge rate a small point but I guess the industry is already saying "home car chargers" but its not quite a true description. Good review, thanks. How does it compare with the similarly priced yet longer range 64KW eNiro or cheaper eSoul? Also, I cannot understand how Volkswagen, of all people, can put out software which crashes showing a Java stack trace on screen. That's going to take a dealer visit to fix.
@NobbyOnCars4 жыл бұрын
I don’t think either of the Kia models are cheaper that’s the first thing. Probably a bit bigger than eNiro inside, possibly similar to eSoul but ID. 3 boot felt bigger. The first software update is a dealer job in early 2021 as it is so perhaps they wanted to get the car out and that was always the plan for the update regardless. Hard to know 🤷🏼♂️

Subbed and thanks for the great review, we got our Plus last week. Excellent car so far, delighted with the drive, plenty of poke and fairly planted. As you mentioned, 4motion (plus maybe another 50Hp) would make this a hoot to drive. Coming from an eGolf, the build quality is OK..not too gone on the scratchy plastic on the door cards for example.. Also a bit of a pain having to disable the lane assist every time you start, it goes rasher on bendy back roads-you're through the damn bend and its still trying to compensate.. Did you manage to get it charging on a schedule? Doesn't work on ours as we can't set a charging location-infotainment message says function not available.

The lane assist on the basic ID.3 1st and plus is just a lane departure system that will ping-pong you between lane markings at best. It is not a proper lane keep assist like you have in the Max trim nor is it a travel assist (aka autopilot in Tesla terms) also like you have in the Max. Anyone that wants those advanced assist systems (and they are awesome) should look to the 1st Max or higher trims on the fast lane models.

Very cool review - they seem to be everywhere recently and VW apparently brought it way more stock than needed. Pretty unforgivable to ship the car with such an awful UI, they should have gotten CarPlay/AA in there at least. The 34k spec is fairly sparse but the 41~48k price tag for this (with the same battery and motor) is laughable. How much would this car be in petrol? About 24k starting price probably. Therein lies the rub. Nobody will be saving 10k in running costs over 3-5 years in reality. But I’d say they are fun to test!
@NobbyOnCars4 жыл бұрын
Size of the car wise I think 24 would be on the low side but I take the point. Yeah not sure of the reason for the CarPlay / Android Auto issue, it's not like they don't have the licence with it in their other cars.

Nobby On Cars size wise yeah but the interior finish isn’t up to Golf standard. Plus they saved money by not mirroring the driver array, simply moving It over. Hmm the long range is not much cheaper than the tesla. However the tesla has more style. The cheap version just lacks range. Seems like a cheat to me.

The sound is not very good in your video. I had to put it very high and still had issues to understand everything with a kid playing next room. This is not usually the case.

Yeah the entire interface for the car crashes every now and then with a red screen of death....and the touch headlight/demist controls are iffy with it turning the blowers on full randomly....and the steering wheel controls are glitchy - but hey its new and fresh. Why do people make excuses for a £30000+ product which doesn't properly perform the very very basic functions of a 30 year old car. Since when does it be ok for a machine that requires your constant attention otherwise it will kill you and others - to have all the glitchy, temperamental interface of a f'ing mobile phone. All this touch control garbage WILL kill people - its more distracting than using your mobile whilst driving as you stab around trying to get the car to do the most basic of functions.

I think this is going to be the case for a while with lots of manufacturers using tablets to control cars & with so many wanting to get their new EV out.

SO, you'd prefer some old disgusting petrol car? I think not. Unless you're as mad as you pretend to be.
@blower14 жыл бұрын
@@alexmckenna1171 I prefer a car that doesn't have an interface which randomly crashes so i can't adjust anything until it reboots, or whose controls are faulty from the factory as they are intermittent in function requiring multiple presses, causing a large distraction that could kill me or others.. Nothing wrong with petrol in comparison - where do you think all the energy comes from to charge that car? - it certainly doesn't come from the teeny tiny fraction of energy that's a renewable source. Most of it will be nuclear, and well that's hardly what i would call a green alternative for the future - burying tonnes of waste that will be toxic to all life for 100's thousands of years, and nuclear has such a stellar history (Sellafield's toxic pool, fukushima's toxic town, Chernobyl's toxic everything etc) Not to mention all the precious metals used in it's lithium battery cells - a dwindling resource (sounds familiar? - aka fossil fuels). Electric in its current form is just replacing one bad resource with another - with little net gain over time.......new disgusting electric.

We will have to agree to disagree My ID 3 simply stopped after loosing all functionality on a motorway. After having an accident where a lorry sideswipe me some years ago it scared. That was 4 weeks ago. My car has been with its dealership since and nothing showing. I can say I'd have it back with trepidation. Maybe a rogue car
