Besides the people in Charlotte that called him names like “Nobe Bryant” or “Kmart Kobe” others really thought Gerald Henderson was going to be the next Kobe Bryant before he entered the NBA. And you know what, they weren’t far off in comparison because as many would admit, he did favor Kobe in basketball mannerism, the way he moved on the court, and his game clearly said his favorite player was Kobe, or Kobe’s idol Michael Jordan. It’s a comparison you’d love to have as a draft prospect, that teams salivated over, just the thought of Jordan 3.0. I think the confusion comes when people think if you say that then you’re expecting the same results from his career as Kobe, but really they only mean in what his game looks like in quick spurts. People also called Kris Middleton Kobe, or Rondae Hollis Jefferson, because visually the similarities to the eyes in moments are present. Safe to say Gerald Henderson did not become the next Kobe, averaging a career high 15.5ppg in 2012-13 or 11ppg for his career. One that lasted only 8 seasons and ended because his body was continually failing him. Ironic because his body failing him was the last thing you’d guess would end Gerald Henderson’s career back when he was an ammeter, and physically advanced far beyond his peers. if only he could add this and or that to his game. What Happened to the Next Kobe Bryant Gerald Henderson? “NOBE Bryant” Gerald Henderson Was Supposed To Be The Next “MAMBA! Stunted Growth

Besides what they called him, Gerald Henderson Jr's game did favor one of the goats (Kobe). He would've been a solid player, but these reasons were just too much to overcome.

Nobody is comparing him to Kobe. But just his mannerisms are like Kobe and the way he jumps is Kobe like. I used to think he didnt last because he never developed playmaking or outside shooting - thats still the case , but more nuanced , it was likely mostly due to injuries he wasnt able to develop more. I always just kinda saw him as a rather generic athletic guy who didnt really do anything to make himself stand out with a special skill set. I remember when my sixers signed him , he seemed solid in a average sense ; he just could never really go off to make himself stand out at all.

There are so many rumors about where Kobe would've gone had he chose to go to college, which makes this so fun, and it kinda makes his legend grow even more. The Duke chatter is out there, given he endorsed coach K coaching to Lakers, and was thrilled to play for him @ the Olympics...Also, there's a UNC rumor as well. The legend there is that Kobe read all during 1996 (His senior year in High school) that Vince Carter was the best up & coming two guard in America, and allegedly Kobe wanted to go to UNC with the sole purpose of busting Vince's ass in practice everyday to prove that HE was the best (serious mamba shit right there). There were also rumors he wanted to go to Kentucky which have deepened now with UK being chosen as the first "Mamba sponsored" school...And you can't forget LaSalle, which was local for him, and who also hired his father as an assistant with the sole purpose of getting him to go there. It's all so fascinating. It would've been interesting, because Duke was not any good really at the time Kobe would've gone been there (obviously would've been much better with him). But, this speculation of where he would've gone are all so interesting.

I never got what all the hype was about, with Henderson. I'm from the Philly area, and just out of nowhere his name started to appear in our local newspaper, as being a highly recruited high school basketball player. But now after hearing that his dad was an ex player, it all makes sense now. He had connects via his dad. But Idk he was just ok, but i never scene anything extra special about his game at all, it just all seemed like allot of hype over a basic player who on occasion had a great dunk or two.
